BFG Tech Almost Defunct, Stops Honoring RMAs

Almost defunct enthusiast PC hardware vendor BFG Technologies may have just hit the final nail in its coffin, after it started sending denials to RMA applicants. The company was best known for its NVIDIA GeForce graphics accelerators, and announced its exit from the graphics industry this May. In rather quick succession, it also stopped shipping other products, while announcing that it will honor its warranties and RMAs.

Much to the disgruntlement of its customers, the company is now reportedly returning products sent for RMA with a covering letter saying that it cannot replace the product since a major supplier stopped doing business with it, apologizing for any inconvenience caused...well, apart from the $100s worth paperweights.

How long until XFX and Zotac go the same way. It's nice being a premium player but this is the risk if things go wrong.

XFX made the smart move imo of cutting a deal and becoming an ati partner and not nvidia exlcusively (as they haven't been good competetively imo since the 4870 came out). Maybe if BFG had have done the same thing they wouldn't be in this situation.

Well, ASUS, MSI, GIGABYTE etc used to make cards from both camps. When did this change to be either NVIDIA only or you won't be our partner anymore? I mean from what i can see, ASUS is making both, HD5000 series cards and also GTX 400 series cards. So it seems that's perfectly normal.

I don't think BFG/EVGA/Zotac "make" any ati cards though. Probably isn't a good time to be an Nvidia only partner

I've always wondered what would be the consumer's position in such cases. Would their warranty just go up in smoke?

I've got a BFG 8800GT somewhere, bought on release date with a 10 year warranty - I don't really care since the card's resale value is very low now and I enjoyed it to the full, upgraded and it's now sitting on a shelf, but technically it's supposed to be covered by warranty till 2017 lol

Nvidia only designs the graphics cores they don't actually produce any of it.

Thank god I sold my BFG 295GTX long ago. I also hope that it will last the next owner many years. Right now I am actually using a BFG 260GTX while RMA'ing 5970 back to XFX. They are so slow with their process.

hmm another victim from nvdia,

i think its because nvdia don't release decent low end card, its where the bulk is, and maybe because nvdia discontinued GT2XX even before fermi was even ready.

i hope nvdia can release their low-end fermi card, if not another partner will be failing, because average joe sees DX is everything, so they can't compete their DX 10 card with low end ati DX 11

If BFG is going out of business, no. Any lifetime warranty ends with the life of the company as well. BFG is dead.

Incredibly sad. At one point, I bought BFG graphics cards exclusively, after a great RMA experience I had with them years ago. Very, very sad. It makes you realize that no one is safe in this economic climate.

BFG Tech was a brand I had no hesitation buying products from. I currently have an 8800GT and a 450W PSU that are BFG products and they are great pieces of hardware, so was my 9800GTX I had from them. Sad news, indeed.

FAIK bankruptcy should remove all liability on their part from the warranty.

Looks like I just got screwed, have a dead GTX280 that was waiting to get shipped out, not even gonna bother at this point and keep the postage I would have spent.

I almost feel like someone needs to step in and take care of all the customers out there in the same position I am.
