Retailers think that Steam is killing PC market

Why should I spend my hard earned money in a shop that has 5 rows of both PS3 and 360 games and a single solitary line of pc games? they can suck my balls, they sold out pc gamers long ago, now there whining we don't buy from them

I noticed that too myself and the PC games they sell are usually old too. There is one worst thing and it is when you look for an old PC game that you do want you find that they don't have it at all which is why I ended up buying the first Left 4 Dead on hard copy from Amazon of all places, that is how desperate I was for the game as I really did want to put it next to the Left 4 Dead 2 that I have on my shelf and not only that I haven't played the first one before so it was a good opportunity to learn a bit of Left 4 Dead History.

Steam is great, don't get me wrong. But there's something I'm pretty pissed off though, how can a game which doesn't come with a box cost the same/more on steam than whats sitting on shelves? Bearing in mind they didn't pay shipping/gas or whatever there is to it.

That has crossed my mind too but not having to waist gas then wait in line behind a bunch of screaming kids to get whatever game, Steam is OK in my book, and besides prices usually drop pretty quick !!.....

im based in the UK and all i gota say is HA there wouldnt be a online game market without steam having invented it tho i agree there dear they are also very cheap if you get the game at the right time i got dirt2 for 8.99 anyway my main point is most shops have pulled pc games off the shelves the cheeky so and sos and i only ever tried 3 dl cos steam.direct to drive and GAMES own guess which caused stress in which i ended ud dlin thru ea dl instead yes it was the VERY shoddy GAME service no never again its steam for me n i hate em lol at least you get your game with no que and minimal messing plus multi game compat inter chat

well - currently, CoD: Black Ops is £44 on steam - but Game/Gamestation are doing it for £35 free P&P - it might take 2-3days to get to you - but if your downloading the game from scratch, it could take up almost a whole day or night if you leave your pc downloading while you sleep.

so anyway you look at it you wont be play the game instantly the moment you pay for it, and unless you live near the game store then theres really no excuse. if there was a game store 10mins away from me - id go there, but since the nearest one is in the next town, i can either cycle for 20mins or take public transport and that takes effort. Its gonna be freezing over the next few days so I probably just order the game online

So lets say i have 100 plus games on my hard drive from Steam web site.
And steam put D.R.M in the games.
If my hard drive dies on me and craps out can i not get my games back just
By downloading them again from Steam.?
I don,t use Steam so its all new two me this

yeah it's no problem. most people uninstall as they need space for... more games but you can always just download it again.

Steam games are the only ones I'll buy for premium games, because the DRM is the least invasive out there and you get quite a lot of benefits from the Steam platform.

Have a look at their About page and FAQ to get a complete picture of what Steam can do. The client is free to use, as you'd expect.

Good Old Games is excellent too, because they sell older games that people still wanna play with no DRM at all! Grade A games Unreal Tournament & Unreal Tournament 2004 are there for example and are very cheap. Check it out: www.gog.com

either way competition is best for us the consumer, I prefer the retail packaging, I usually use alot of those pirate bay cracks for my games since I use Linux and wine, and most of the time DRM is all that stands between a game not launching and running perfectly. I still buy the game and support the author. I wish more did...

Yup: install, create an account and you're away.

If Windows 8 gets sold on USB then optical drives will be dead. I only ever use mine for ripping my DVDs and Blurays.

You try running as admin or different compatibility modes?

Could be a lot of things causing this; there's not really enought detail here to say what.

However, you could try temporarily disabling your internet security software while you install Steam and make sure that nothing else is running on your system.

Also, make sure that you have all the latest critical/important Windows service packs and updates installed.

Any of these things can cause the problem you're seeing.

Don't bother with XP compatibility mode. The Steam client definitely doesn't need it as it's a very modern application. In fact, it may potentially cause more problems.

All i have running is just my firewall right now ?
still sticking and Disable User Account Control (UAC) in win 7 still the same
I googled the problem it seems lots people are haveing this problem
