Poll: ALL 6950 and 6970 Owners, What's the current status of your card?

After my last poll, people recommended that I make an all inclusive poll so that we can compare failure rates of stock 6950/6970 cards to that of modded 6950 cards. Here it is. Hopefully this will give us some more insight as to how many people are, or are not, having problems with the 6950 mods. If your a 6950 or 6970 owner, please take a second to vote and let us know what the current status of your card is!! If your card failed, please post and elaborate on your exact card setup, mhz, voltages, bios, overclock, card brand, etc. Also, if your card became defective or damaged, please vote for the option that described your card when it first started having problems!

My 6950 flashed with a 6970 bios has no problems after 2 weeks

Your comment really doesn't make sense. Most people voting have already flashed their card, hence all the flashed poll options and the time frame options, and if they haven't flashed that is why the poll has the "stock" card options. What's the point in trying to discredit this poll and the effort to help 6900 owners? If you don't like the poll, don't vote and leave it at that. There's no way to make everyone happy all the time. I didn't design the forums or the ability to modify votes so we have to work with what we have. I made the other poll, most people liked it and a few suggested the option to see what cards haven't failed. Since I can't modify the other poll, I made an all inclusive one. I did the best I could by adding how many weeks it took to kill the defective flashed cards. No statistics are perfect, especially when your working within someone else's parameters, but this should still turn out to be interesting and informative. And as SvB4EvA said, we can always post back if things change.

So let me see if I got this straight; the difference between the 6970 bios and the 6950 bios mod is that the former not only unlocks shaders but the 6970 clocks as well while the latter only unlocks the shaders? It is just a bit confusing to me...

There are two options

1. Flash the 6970 bios to your 6950 card which unlocks the extra shaders, ups the default clock speeds and clock speed limits, ups the core voltage, and theoretically changes the memory timings and voltage to that of a 6970. Some have problems and many argue this is bad because the 6950 uses a lesser speed/quality memory that cannot hold up over time when put under the voltage/timings/speed of the 6970 bios.

2. Modify your 6950 bios, or flash a modified 6950 bios where everything in the bios is stock 6950 EXCEPT for unlocking the extra shaders. This is the safest because you retain 6950 voltages, mem timings, speeds, etc.

That's your opinion. Several people wanted more options in the other thread so we could see what amount of cards are actually working fine as compared to defective ones. I couldn't modify the other poll to do this, thus we now have this one. And if I could / did modify the other poll with these options, you would just complain that the poll was useless since it didn't have those options from the start. No one is forcing you to partake in this poll or thread.

What if you were to go for option one and just lower the memory frequency at the default 1250 Mhz, while keeping your gpu clocked at the standard 6970 speed. Would that make a difference?

I was running the 6970 bios for 1.5 weeks with no problems. But after reading all the problems people had, I flashed back to stock. And now I'm on the modded shaded bios for about 4 days and no problems.

at first i thought i broke the card as i was noticing artifacts and glitches in some games and benchmarks even when i flashed back to 6950 but then other people with 58xx series cards and nvidia cards were having the same artifacts with their cards and thats when i realized i was fine and it was driver/game engine bugs

The main problem seems to be the memory timings / voltage which are changed from the 6950 to 6970 bios, so no running a 6970 bios and putting the memory back down to 1250 doesn't really alleviate the inherit risks of running the 6970 bios.

I voted for my friend. Even though he had no issue with the 6970 bios we just switched him to the modded 6950 to be safe and have afterburner voltage control (doesn't support changes on 6950s with 6970 bios).
