OMG, the insanity.
Price does matter. There are different types of HDMI cables, and some are only really good for 720p.
There are standard and highspeed cables, and 1080p, the most common resolution for PC monitors, requires a highspeed cable.
Previously, before 1.3 spec, sure, it didn't matter, but it does now. Even more so that now we are on to 1.4.
As well, cable length can degrade the signal, digital or not, just like any other cable.
