Behold, the new world record of CPU overclocking! The World's Legendary Overclocker Nick Shih has overclocked an Ivy Bridge Core i7 377oK processor to a mind blowing 7.136GHz with the newly released ASRock Z77 OC Formula. The world leading motherboard manufacturer, ASRock Inc., is overjoyed to announce that we have landed on the number one spot on HWBOT and also set a new overclocking world record.

The overclocking world champion, Nick Shih, exclaimed "Hitting number one on HWBOT makes my day, but scoring number one with the motherboard I designed is like the wildest dream come true! Thanks to everyone who helped make my dream, ASRock Z77 OC Formula, into reality.

"When we declared that ASRock Z77 OC Formula was born to be fast, we really meant what we said. No stretching the truth. No marketing gimmicks. Our goal wasn't coming second or third, it was number one the whole time, and now our effort has paid off." commented James Lee, V.P. of Sales and Marketing at ASRock.

Breaking the world record wasn't easy. Nick Shih used ASRock Z77 OC Formula, the motherboard he designed specifically for overclocking, and applied liquid helium for cooling to set the new world record - 7.136 GHz!

ASRock Z77 OC Formula is the first motherboard of our OC Formula series, a series of motherboards specifically designed for overclocking. Undeniably, the secret to success is the three Formula kits implemented on the motherboard. The Power Kit which delivers smooth and stable current with Digi Power, DSM, PAC, MFC and the 12+4 power phase design. While the Cooling Kit provides the best heat dissipation solutions, such as Twin-Power Cooling Heatsink, 8-layer-PCB design with 4 sets of 2oz copper inner layers and GELID Solution GC-Extreme Thermal Compound. And of course, the strictly designed Connector Kit, including Hi-Density Power Connectors and 15μ Gold Fingers. Besides the three Formula Kits that makes this motherboard Born to be Fast, there are also Nick Shih's OC Profile settings in the UEFI, so you have a chance to feel what it's like being a world champion!

A motherboard designed for overclocking must be a combination of flawless hardware design and professional but user friendly software. ASRock Z77 OC Formula is the fast and furious motherboard every overclocker would wish for. Just try it for yourself, and maybe you will become the next Nick Shih!

Find the validation here.

A whole 0.034G more than the previous record.
Mind.Blown.
World record? What about this record...
Ah, but one of these CPU's is pretty much the great all rounder that wins on most metrics rather than just a suicide run under LN2/LHe...and the other is a bulldozer. On that note, here's an Edsel...

I am so not suprised that this prodigy of a mobo set a new WR (intel), and it will probably break it a few more times. This CPU must be one sick of a cherry picked one

I dont want to start a flame here...I am aware that Ivy at 7Ghz wipes the floor with a BD at 8.5Ghz, but the news says "new world record of CPU overclocking" not new record in X benchmark...

Well it IS only 1 core outta 4. But I guess the previous record was using the same. The AMD was using 2 cores :p

Now what do you do with a single core CPU ticking along at 7Ghz?

all the 2d benchmarks that only need one core http://hwbot.org/benchmarks/processor

like superpi 1m/32m, pifast, cpu-z

and if it does 7ghz its going to be a good 3d chip should do around 6.5-6.8 4c

It's the record for 3770K chips. by almost 50 MHz, too!

A new high score of 7.136GHz with ASRock Z77 OC Formula. We are the champions!.jpg

Athlon XPs ran at that when pushed to 2.8-3.0GHz, they could handle it with Air Cooling They were called Toasters though

This company has gained a very strong following since they were released from their leash and collar in 2010. I dont hear many if at all complaints about their boards compared to the prior parent company ASUS

This board just keeps looking better and better.

I though Asrock where Asus's sister company?

Also it is only 1 core and 1 thread.
Thats like saying I have a V8 that dose 24,000 RPM but only on 1 cylinder.

ASRock and Asus are no longer tied to eachother, Before 2010 AsRock was a Subsidiary of Asus Making "Budget" motherboards. 2010 AsRock was released from their restraint. They are a independent company that is actually even kicking Asus' ass.

Also the CPU bit- they were seeing how far they could push it, that is all, we all know that most dont have the time or money to run our cpus at that speed anyway.

ASRock is the consumer division of Pegatron. Pegatron makes proprietry motherboards, graphics cards etc. for OEM's (Hewlett-Packard, Dell, Apple amongst others), and used to manufacture Asus's mainboards.
In 2007, ASUSTek split into three divisions- Asus, Pegatron and Unihan, for the express reason of Asus divesting itself from OEM work and to spinoff and realise profit the assets. Pegatron (who absorbed Unihan) are now a seperate corporate entity.
