Well that was a good livestream - really like the look of the HUD that they're working on (you can tell one of them worked on Iron Man's hud in Iron Man 3). In addition to my Starfarer purchase on Monday I gave in and got an Avenger after seeing the new Avenger model they'll be putting in - it looks like the closest thing to the RSI Zeus in the game and is a curvy mini-space shuttle. No more ship purchases for me now - my PC upgrade fund has already taken a dent D:

I agree a very good live stream, it really makes me want to purchase more ships but I'm going to stick to my one starter and work my way up.the downside I see with everyone buying all the ships is, we will have all sorts of massive ships flying around but no ones cargo in them, because everyone already have their own cargo ship.

Alright....

Well, today is the last day to pick up ships with LTI. In the spirit of helping with the development (and wanting various ships with LTI!) I finally "finished" my line-up of starting ships.

I've come away with my Constellation (transport/support), M50 (racing/infiltration (if I can throw some ghost panels on there)), Super Hornet (combat/mercenary), and Freelancer (freelancing duh!/explorer) . I will probably end up with a different variant of the Connie and the Freelancer depending on what they offer.

Feel free to update me on the OP erocker!

Bring on the dogfighting module!

I have heard some people commenting on the fact that there will be a lot of variation in the ships flying around at the start - the way I see it is as follows.

I've been in a lot of MMO launches and the one issue at the start is that everyone is in the starting areas (in SC those could be safe, UEE policed sectors), competing for the same starting equipment and doing the same grind on the same enemies. I know with no XP system Star Citizen will be slightly different, but if everyone started in an Aurora then all the weapons, upgrades etc for that would be in short supply and costs would inflate. By having lots of people starting at different "levels" (ie ships) we will see a more balanced situation - some people will be jumping straight into mining, trading etc as they already have the ships to do so. Some ships will be more capable in deep space and dangerous areas than the basic beginner ships so the whole universe will feel more alive and established than everyone racing to be in the better ship to get to the content they want.

As for what cargo the haulers will carry - there will be a fully established NPC economy to ship supplies between, so there will be enough to do (and with a player supported economy someone will have to keep the missiles and replacement auroras flowing

Plus as the average pledge is somewhere in the $100 region there are comparatively few large ships out there (and I'd wager a large proportion of more expensive ships are in the hands of an even smaller group of people who've pledged in the $1k+ region).

You should group with me and my pals when it goes live. A Cutlass, strictly for cargo of course, accompanied by a Super Hornet, used as a scout for salvage sites. We're just your friendly neighbourhood salvage crew, don't mind the big guns and the Jolly Rogers on the ships...

Been speaking to my mate who's massively invested in this game. I'll be buying in to it very soon and he'll be gifting me a ship so i can get the LTI. I used to play Elite on the Acorn Electron in the 80's and I think this is what I've been waiting for.

It looks like the V1 dogfighting module will be single-player only, followed by the Social/Planetside module early next year and then the V2 dogfighting module that is multiplayer. So just don't be disappointed when we get the V1 module and you can't shoot your friends

It will, however, provide valuable insight on how the ships handle and we do get the weapons testing rig as well, so that should help, too.

Last night I went and sat in all of my ships. Haven't done that in a while. I have to do it so I don't feel like such a turd for how much cash I've pledged. One thing that I noticed is that visually, the Freelancer seems to be the most polished ship. If someone told me they had PBR already integrated into that ship I would believe them.

That's a good way to do it. I plan on using pretty much one ship for a while. I have the others if someone wants to team up or something like that.

As far as specs... Chris Roberts has said he wants this to be the "next Crysis". So whatever you have, it'll melt it. Heh. Aside from that, 64 bit O/S and 16gb's of memory is pretty much what is set at the moment.
