This really shouldn't become a anti-Nvidia rant thread, agendas are already starting to appear... are easy to spot... and it's getting old.

Save it for Batman: Arkham Knight guys. :p

I need to stop players ng gta5 for a while as that game runs silky 60fps on my old rig and this game i locked at 30 to avoid fps spikes. Feels bad when you get used to 60fps then switch to 30fps. At least my settings are on the high side heh.

And nvidia really gimped on non maxwell cards?

The game runs fairly well on my 970 with ultra settings. I can't complain, it is really beautiful.

@ViperXTR you can see my specs I am using 780, a Kepler, and if you read my posts and look at my last one too, I feel no gimping. Best launch I've ever seen.

Aslong as you keep the setting to HIGH with GameWorks OFF it should be playable @ 1080p for non-Maxwell

Kepler isn't doing so well. 980 matches 780 SLI

If by Gameworks, you mean the hair, I've got it on, and thus my 40's which are quite playable. Whether I've got it on or off, it looks beautiful and plays smoothly, so I'm happy. :D

Oh well i guess my 660 is just not cut for it being in the minimum requirements.
(GTX 960ti when?) Maybe id consider getting one o those 970 or 290 soon.
The game itself looks amazing specially in motion. Only gripe so far about it is how retarted Geralt looks when jumping heh.

My fiance' has the 970, and she's able to up her settings slightly higher than mine, but not much, which bears out every benchmark I have run here at the house comparing the two, because our systems are so similar. In everything, the 970 and 780 trade blows. Difference being hers uses less power, has 1/2GB of more usable VRAM, , and it cost less to buy than mine did. If I wasn't already committed to this thing for awhile longer, that's what I would buy.

I have 780 and 970, tested them inside the same system. Same settings. Difference around 10-15fps.

Tested 780 with Hairworks (HW) on and off, in front of the pub looking at the horses and using witcher's sense difference is between 15-20fps! HW really relies on GPU's tesselation power. Has anyone notice, if you have Kepler (mine 780) and the camera zooms in to Geralt's head/ hair (ie. entering houses) the fps drops significantly? This with HW on, of course.

Activating PhysX Indicator tells that the game uses CPU for PhysX. Tested with a dedicated PhysX card, no changes. The game hardwired to using CPU for physics emulations, and it doesn't matter anyway, the game runs great.

VRAM usage is awesome in this game, I don't know if it's efficient or what but it's low compared to previous AAA titles. Haven't got into a city, perhaps it would go up later in places that have more unique textures crammed together.

I noticed that when opening menus or map the GPU usage drops, this is a very nice perk in some games (FC4 do it too). When you wanna grab a beer or take a leak, just open up the menu/ map and let your GPU cool off a bit. Aww, my preciousss...

Who's using HW Cursor enabled and disabled? Also noticed that sensitivity off the bat on 1440p is absolutely mad and had to turn it down.

Also, bizarrely, I can't bring myself to turn that HairWorks off. Once I had it on, turning it off felt wrong, because it actually made it look slightly more interesting overall.
how retarted Geralt looks when jumping heh.
That's the first thing I noticed when trying to find the sprint button during the opening sequence :p

I can't spend too much time on anything at all, got a review to sort for tomorrow. It's crippling, I've seen the beauty and I can't touch it for 2 days!

I saw the min specs today and was like, 'wow, my CPU is minimum'? I feel like the intel minimum is better than the AMD equivalent though...

I started playing the first one again a couple of days ago, but didn't play enough hours. I'll probably buy wild hunt in a sale.
I feel for your every word. Also next month i will upgrade to a hd 7970. The people from NCIX PC convinced me. Looking to purchase it when it will not cost so much.

And for those people that say the graphics are not enough. Just w8 for the mods to start coming in. I'm sure there figure out a way to take an extremely well looking game into a "ubber looking game" (whatever that is).

I'm waiting for an FOV mod. FOV on 1440p is awful, especially during witcher sense.

That said the game is pretty as it is. Not sure what PC could handle it on Ultra + mods.

AFAIK hardware cursor supposed to improve response time of your mouse. But anyway, after I successfully made my Logitech Rumblepad 2 working with Witcher 3, I'm now playing gamepad-mode. Hehe. Died so many times 'cause of too many Dark Souls. Have to re-train my finger reflexes for normal and powerful attacks, damn it.

I agree with the jump, it's rather silly. I thought at first there'll be no animation for opening doors (none when Geralt left the love nest), but actually there is later on.

So I've opted to play this maxed out with locked frames to 30 FPS (seems to prevent stutter) on 1440p. Is playing it smooth on 60 FPS considered a better experience? Should I sacrifice 1440p to play with 60 FPS?

Knock it down to High, and change some post-processing down to medium. Overall the high-ish graphics at 50-60FPS is more pleasant than shiny graphics at 32FPS.

EDIT: Just to note, after a conversation with W1z about VRAM usage, you're going to use 2.7GB on 1440p or above at some point. We discovered a location that ramps up the VRAM usage by 1GB over everything else. If you're on 1080p, 2GB is absolutely fine.

I've been saying this since day one. Glad you tried it out and saw it. Maybe now that you said it people trying to kill their cards on ultra will try High and see it looks nearly as good! Overall, I think Ultra is for SLI or Pascal single cards.

I shut off the blurring shit but with everything else ON and set to Ultra I get a average of 40fps but if I turn off the nvidia hair I get 55-60 fps average.

Hi I'm running the following HardWare Components:

System Name:Brutus
Processor:i5 4690k @4.7Ghz (Watercooled)
Motherboard:z97 MSI Gaming 5
Cooling:NZXT Kraken x61 AIO watercooler
Memory:Gskill Ripjaws 8gb (2x4gb) 1600mhz 7-8-7-24

Case:NZXT Phantom
Sound Card:ASUS Xonar DX
Power Supply:Antec TPQ 1200w
Software:Windows 7 (64 bit)

I'm trying to run "The Witcher 3" game with a SOLID 60FPS at the very least (on a 2560x1440 resolution). I have a 100hz capable monitor (overclockable) therefore I'd like to run The Witcher 3 @ 95+FPS solid with Everything Maxed.

With that objective in mind, what kind of Upgrade must I consider for my System?
Get another gtx 970?

Considering my mobo supports 8x/8x PCI-E lanes instead of 16x/16x, Am I better off with a stronger Single Card?

Another 970 could give you a solid 60 fps for the cheapest solution possible. But at that resolution, I dont think any single card, even a Titan X could maintain 60 with every setting maxed out. However, 95 fps is either wildly expensive and foolish at this point or its just not possible with this generation of cards like rtw mentioned earlier.

PCIe lanes is a non issue, just get another 970, and over lock both to the gills.

What about the upcoming GTX 980 Ti ? worth a look?

I'm running dual ASUS STRIX 970s (1400/7800), I have my panels slightly overclocked from 60 to 75Hz. At 1440p I can play on ultra settings and maintain 60-75fps consistently, however, Hairworks has to be off, you'll get framerate drops depending on how much hair is in the scene, which tends to tank during cutscenes or when in villages.
