What about the upcoming GTX 980 Ti ? worth a look?

980Ti is just going to be a slightly weaker version of the Titan X, and I saw somewhere that those owners are having trouble doing good frames on 1440 and up. Your goal with even that as a single card is not likely to be attained.

Even if you got 100% scaling with the second 970 you're not going to average 95 FPS. This is the benches done here at 1440p Ultra and Hairworks off

Probably with two 980 Ti you could but we don't know what the performance of that GPU will be yet and if you wanted to go SLI Titan X that would run you about $2,100. Ouch.

Ok, I've played with my settings. I'm still running my 780 at 1080p on the last drivers before GTA, 344.78?, with overall settings on high. Shadows are on medium, and detail level on ultra. I've disabled motion blur and hairworks.

Now I vary between 46 and 60fps. Probably those 60 reading would be higher, but I have limited it to 60fps. I think I will play at these settings for the remainder. Very smooth. 8 hours complete, probably 200 to go, LOL.

Knock it down to High, and change some post-processing down to medium. Overall the high-ish graphics at 50-60FPS is more pleasant than shiny graphics at 32FPS.

EDIT: Just to note, after a conversation with W1z about VRAM usage, you're going to use 2.7GB on 1440p or above at some point. We discovered a location that ramps up the VRAM usage by 1GB over everything else. If you're on 1080p, 2GB is absolutely fine.

I've been saying this since day one. Glad you tried it out and saw it. Maybe now that you said it people trying to kill their cards on ultra will try High and see it looks nearly as good! Overall, I think Ultra is for SLI or Pascal single cards.

I'm waiting for an FOV mod. FOV on 1440p is awful, especially during witcher sense.

That said the game is pretty as it is. Not sure what PC could handle it on Ultra + mods.

Damn does this game need some good ol' alpha blending or transparency aa especially on vegetation.
I mean it doesn't keep it from being beautiful, but it's so glaringly noticeable when rest is top notch.

On high I get around 50 FPS not 60 so I'm settling with a constant 30 FPS maxed out (No hairworks) at 1440p. I find it quite enjoyable.

Running FXAA on top of the game's in-house AA helps with that quite a bit. I've noticed that the in house AA doesn't seem to apply on things that are modified by the game's depth-of-field effect, which happens to be a lot of the vegetation. This however may soften the image too much for your tastes. I generally prefer lots of supersampling or a softer image overall. Also, enable 16x anisotropic filtering if you haven't already, really improves the image overall, especially further off vegetation and roads.

LOL, and even if that was happening, graphics don't make the gameplay. It's merely a bonus. Good games are great no matter how they look.

Anyway, I'm completely unaware of this graphics destroying string of patches which are turning my game into minecraft.

Apparently witcher 2 looks better than witcher 3 so the talk of the town here is that CDProjekt downgraded the graphics

As far as I can see it looks better than Witcher 2.

And that's after just finishing another run-through of Witcher 2 2weeks ago.

Speaking of gameplay, do any of you know if there is a way to lock onto an enemy before it turns hostile? I feel like I can't get a good jump on a fight or adequately defend myself sometimes because I can't lock onto an enemy before he's already trying to take my head off and I'm fumbling to face them to block and mashing the right stick trying to lock on.

Best I can advise is that I have been using the crossbow. If it is dark you can do it for 7 or 8 bolts on a group before they find you.

I've got my own question. Roach desperately needs blinders, but I haven't found a smith yet who can craft them.

I'll wait until this patch gets released to see if things move in a good direction.

Before I get into the nitty-gritty, know that a big patch with 600 changes - including improvements to graphics and graphical settings - was sent to certification today (Wednesday 20th May), and will take between five and seven days to clear. There will be patch notes covering it all.
In addition, CD Projekt Red will patch the game to allow editing of .ini files on PC, to push graphical settings even higher. You will be able to tweak grass and vegetation density, post-processing effects such as sharpening, and draw distances. The .ini patch will arrive soon after the other patch. Yeah, the "hairworks" setting does indeed Eat a chunk of FPS no matter what...
I was gonna say more "optimization" would have helped... but my GPU is showing 99% usage, so I'm guessing they've done that part right.

I'm probably gonna try and get myself another gtx970 or I'll wait and see about the 980ti

@Xzibit See, thing is, you're here with an opinion based on CDPR talking about the game development, and concluding that means it's worse...but you're on a thread filled with game owners who all can tell you the supposed downgrade is not from Witcher 2 levels, it's from the over-ambitious level the set for themselves. We owners know it looks better than Witcher 2.

Yeah, past there. But everything I wanted him to craft, his level was too low to craft. Thanks tho, I'll keep looking.

i don't think i found to make horse blinders yet. but you can go back to the first are just go to a sing post and fast travel there. i found a couple in valen but not as cool as that armor horse mask i found on the first area.

Trying to get back into pc gaming with this game...... Almost got it for XB1. Playing on an FX6100 @ 3.8Ghz, 7930 @ 1000/1350 gets me 30-50fps @1080p Ultra with everything but; # of characters, shadows, grass and foliage set to high. some slowdown in the cut-scenes.....

This game is a MASSIVE time sink. You load into a game spend most of the time just messing about - exploring and killing stuffs. It feels like 15mins have past but 2hrs have gone by in no time.

On a side note - thank god that this game crashes otherwise i wouldnt be able to get up for work in a few hours! (and yeah my game totally CTD'd)
