I meant: I wonder how many frames people are getting @ 1440p max settings with gtx 970 sli on "the witcher 3" game. Those benchmarks are quite detailed, but it doesn't show a performance benchmark for the witcher 3

I bought Witcher 3 and started to play it, got about an hour in and decided i wanted to replay The Witcher 2 so i could carry over my save and play another awesome game. I'm stuck i don't know whether to pick Roche or Iorveth, my original play i choose Iorveth but i don't know which choice is canon or how they effect the 3rd title.

I've been playing on my 970 SLI setup for a while now with .ini tweaks to make it prettier and I average about 65-75 FPS @ 1600p. I would say you get about 70-80 FPS at 1440p without tweaks pretty easily with a decent overclock on your GPU.

EDIT: This is without HairWorks. Added too little for me for a big performance hit so I left it off.

I've cleaned up your mess in every other thread so far. Please desist. If you want to know what your system can run, check the "System Requirements" that the developers release with their game. This can be done by googling. Alternatively you could just make one thread and ask the forum generally what sort of performance you can expect from modern games on your machine. We don't take kindly to making a mess all over the place and spammy behaviour, so this is your first polite warning.

Are strong winds common in the game world or where its based on? I only see them swaying like that when a typhoon is coming in my region at least (and on beaches/shorelines)

I did notice a lot less wind around Novigrad, and Velen also has more periods of calm weather than White Orchard seemed to have. The weather patterns are pretty varied.

I've noticed that out of the swamps in Velen, it gets very windy in the evenings, a peculiarity I have only ever noticed in desert regions in RL, wheras in the swamps in Velen, it always seems calm, almost stagnant.

On some good news, before leaving Velen, I am trying for complete clearance of all question marks and contracts. to that end, I tracked down all the Griffin School equipment diagrams. I only died 3 times in the process, LOL. OF course, not enough money to fashion them all and see if they beat my current multi-faceted conglomeration of armor and weapons. Sigh. More contracts it is then...

How do you end up not having cash? Do you dismantle a lot? Or do you buy expensive items in stores?

I just loot pretty much everything and 'clean stacks' once in a while, having no stacks bigger than 15 to keep weight in check. And I never dismantle anything unless it gives some really rare crafting component. Dismantling is expensive, the only stuff I dismantle is socketed items that I want the runestones or upgrades back from. Repairing is also almost never really needed, it is much cheaper to craft a new item instead, because it gets 100% durability as well that way. When in the field, repair kits fill the need. The big money for me in Velen was by looting all the bandits and robbers along the way, and selling their weapons which go for 50+ a pop. Animal skins also sell for good cash. Horse racing and brawling also net a few thousand all together if you place maximum bets. The Baron in Crow's Perch also offers some nice quests for money. And this is just lowbie-Velen I speak of...

Sitting on 10k in cash atm and no real intention to spend much of that, everything you need can be found for free (I am level 15 now and main quest is at Novigrad, so not too far ahead of you story wise it seems). Maybe a respec potion somewhere along the road...

Griffin armor is awesome. Signs become a lot more powerful. I'm burning ghouls with two Igni's now

Oh, side note, in case you haven't noticed, there is going to be a lot of backtracking going on. I found level (??) enemies in the area as a level 15 and some quests even range above 30 and are still in Velen. So you may want to forget about the full clearance itch for now

This game is simply stunning, the graphics are great to me.... about 4 hours into the game and enjoying it very much.... just installed it last night.

The game is running amazing on my rig too, running everything on High with Texture/Water Quality/Terrain set to Ultra and most of the time im sitting in between 50-60 fps. Hairworks off.

@Vayra86 "50+ a pop"????? I haven't found a weapon YET that anyone will buy for more than 12!!!! And animal skins? Maybe a bear gets me 6. Anything else is even less. I don't dismantle much at all, only if I see something I want crafted and I don't have the base component. As to repairs, I HAVE to have blacksmiths and armorers repair, because my gear always needs so much repair they cost me between 20 and 40 to get fixed. There aren't enough kits in the game for me to keep up with that. I save those for when I am far from civilization.

And yes, I noticed about the high level quests. I'm halfway thru level 12, and some of these contracts are levl 30(+)!! Looks like I WILL be coming back to Velen. At least after I complete main quest, I should be able to keep playing, since we've 30 hours of expansion DLC coming in September. Maybe I'll have the opportunity to come back to Velen as an UberWitcher.

What's not clear to me is I know that alcohest and/or dwarven spirits replenishes my potions and oils when meditating, but does it also use the base components too? Do I need to keep 40kg of alchemy and crafting supplies on my person, or can I get rid of all of them?

Also confused on the dismantling of armor and swords with glyphs and runestones. I read in the game that the process destroys the stones. So I haven't done that. Is this not the case?

As far as I'm aware, it doesn't use the original components that were needed to craft the item, otherwise I wouldn't have all my potions filled each meditiation.

Both choices are canon to the Witcher 3. You may or may not come across either of those characters in 3.

When meditating, all potions will be replenished using only alcohol. You don't need any herbs. At least that's what I assumed.

Now if I could figure out what armor and weapin crafting supplies I dont need to carry around.....The game clearly needs some place I can use a chest to store stuff.

All the crafting stuff doesn't really weigh that much, but it would be nice to have a place to store equipment!

I'm not going to lie, at first learning the combat I was like litterally doing this:

But now after playing for 4+ hours I am really enjoying it.... Once you understand how the dodging/rolling works. Its realistic because you have to anticipate when attacks are incoming for it to properly work which I find cool...

Where to find food/potions early on in the game? Level 2-5? I always seem to be short of food...

You pretty much need to get it by looting. Just stroll into some homes. Also some dead people you kill have food. Wolves, dogs and deer mostly provide raw meat. Don't ever buy food. It's expensive as all hell!

The best place to get food is looting. Honestly, food is way overpriced in the game to actually buy it. 26 gold for a damn jug of water?! Robbery!

Sorry, I left off about potions. You're going to have to make your own potions. Which means early on, picking some of every type of herb, flower or mushroom you come accross. First you'll have to accidentally happen upon the ingredients recipes. don't buy those either. too expensive.

Example : sell armors only to armorer and you'll get a better price. Animal skin and metal materials also sells better at armorer or blacksmith.
Selling weapon? Just go to blacksmith. Higher level blacksmith or armorer will yield higher price.
Books? You can find merchant that sell books in Novigrad and he pay a LOT of Crowns for books.
Plant based crafting materials you can sell to herbalist with very nice price.

Oh and also remember you can exchange your Oren or Florin to Crown in Vivaldi's Bank (Novigrad). I got a free 5000++ Crowns after exchanging my Orens and Florins. And you can also loan money from the bank although the interest rate is pretty high.

damn i dint think was hard to get on this game im running around with 50k crowns sitting in my bag. there also a concoction u can make, forgot how u get it that increases your carry capacity for 30 mins then u can meditate and use it again lol.
i did find 70 carrying capacity saddle bags some were.
