Dell 7010 sff psu

Hello guys ,
I was hoping to replace the 240w psu in my dell 7010 sff with a be quiet! 300w tfx but after doing some digging i found conflict reports on other forums that my psu is "propreitary" and cannot be replaced with by other models of psu , is this the case ??? any clarifcation on this issues would be very helpful. the specs are on page 21 of attatched pdf.

Sadly, your video does not tell us if that supply complies with ATX standards, and neither does the tech guide. Your video does show what looks to be a standard 20/40 pin connector, but that does not mean it is wired the same.

You have a couple options and that is to buy the new supply then use a multi-meter or PSU Tester to see if the voltages and grounds are all in the same pin numbers. Or, you can write to be quiet! and ask them. I suggest you write be quiet! Make sure you give be quiet the full model number of your Dell computer and any model numbers of the Dell PSU, if you can see them.

i have this PC , and afaik the entire thing IS proprietary. hell even the front panel headers are. but, if its any consolation, the PSU's in them are decent, for what they are. why is it you need to replace it? broken?

I wondered that too, but neglected to ask because I assumed (not always a smart thing to do) it was because the be quiet! supply has a reputation for being very quiet.

hi , sorry for late rely , i wanted a better psu so i was ready for finfet gpu's in the near future , also i have a low profile 750 ti on the way and although i am confident that the stock psu will handle it without overclocking its not an i deal situation . would moving components to another case be an option ??? are the majority of the 7010 parts salvagable?? (on a tight budget tbh). also i have i5 3470 for those asking and i metioned the be quiet tfx because it seemed to be the best tfx psu on the market.

It's not proprietary, just a standard that isn't common outside of OEMs.

Optiplex SFF uses the LFX12V form factor.

TFX is 85 x 65.2 x 175
LFX is 72 x 65 x 210

Based on the dimensions, a TFX power supply is not going to fit in that chassis.

moving into another case is HELL, i went through ALL of this with that exact PC, and your welcome to try, but as i have done all this a while back ill save you with some experience on the subject. The motherboard is not a standard size, the front panel plugs are not of a standard type, and frankly, If it wasnt made by someone Other than Dell, Assume it is proprietary. If you want some advice, I can offer this, I have installed, and been running a 750Ti Low pro MSI for about 3 months in a 7010 i5, 8Gb's RAM, blah, blah, and its fine. that is either a gold, or a silver rated PSU, and your good, if its just the GPU your concerned about. it WILL handle it. After that 750Ti becomes irrelevant, You'll be better off getting out of that optiplex SFF, since there are SO many limitations to its size, but for the time being, it Will handle the items You've mentioned in this post fine.

if anything , Your best option would be as follows... take the RAM, the CPU, and the HDD, and buy a Case, a motherboard, and a Power Supply, and move it that way, but that case is basically a prison, and your stuck with it, but its not too bad, because with that 750Ti, it will Really be a decent gaming machine. those are your options, i would recommend the former, but the latter is here if your are Dead set on switching, Best of luck.

Thank you jboydgolfer for your input , i'll just install the 750 ti for now and see what my options are later this year . just to confirm you are running the 750 ti from the stock dell 240w psu ???

i understand your reservations, This should put You at ease, and yes it is the original PSU....the 750Ti draws its power ONLY from the PCIe lane, if Your bought the right one it will have NO power plugs..see here for Yourself i just went and took this...and for reference, this PC games for HOURS and HOURS straight, i got it for My 15 year old nephew. and he games Right throug hthe whole weekend. PS temps are fine as well

Thats great , thank you for taking the time to post the pick . I understand that the msi lp 750 ti comes with low profile brackets inc. in packaging , finally did you have to use them for the 7010 sff ?? and are they tricky to attach . thanks again

they were required, and its 2 or 3 tiny screw if i remember correctly. it'll take you 2 minutes. you'll be VERY happy you made that purchase trust me. enjoy
