NVIDIA's second graphics card based on its GP104 "Pascal" silicon, the more affordable GeForce GTX 1070, hits the shelves on June 10, 2016. At the May 7th event, the company was surprisingly quiet about its specifications, until now. It turns out that slower memory isn't the only thing setting the GTX 1070 apart from the GTX 1080. The company will also cut down the CUDA core count, a proportionate number of TMU count, and lower the GPU clock speeds.

NVIDIA set the MSRP for the GeForce GTX 1070 at US $379, $50 higher than the launch-price of the GTX 970, the most popular SKU based on the GM204 silicon. The company also plans to sell a premium reference-design card, dubbed the GeForce GTX 1070 Founders Edition, at $449, at a $70 premium. NVIDIA hopes to make the GTX 1070 the go-to card for Summer 2016 PC upgrades.

The specifications follow.

GeForce GTX 1070
  • 16 nm "GP104" silicon, 7.2 billion transistors, "GP104-200-A1" ASIC
  • 1,920 CUDA cores, 15 out of 20 streaming multiprocessors enabled on the GP104 silicon
  • 120 TMUs, 64 ROPs
  • 256-bit GDDR5 memory, 8 GB standard memory amount
  • Max GPU Boost frequency 1600 MHz
  • 6.75 TFLOP/s single-precision floating point performance
  • 150W TDP, single 8-pin PCIe power connector
  • 3x DisplayPort 1.4, 1x HDMI 2.0b
  • 2-way SLI with SLI HB bridge support

Finally! Pity, no GDDR5X and we don't see the VRAM clock speed either. I am still very curious to see how this card performs, looking forward to it. ^_^

LOL. Thats a whole f**king quarter. This doesn't deserve the xx70 name.
I wonder if it's like gtx 970 with +0,5gb. In this case would be 192bit +slow 64bit bus and 6gb +2gb of slow ram and only 48 rops.

Hmm, I need DVI-D... Waiting for non-reference specs, they may use DVI-D then?

Well @idx, looks like you were right so we owe you a drink :p

Not bad, its a big drop in the Cuda count but still seems powerful. Wonder how that will effect overclocking and the performance overall? Still going to wait on reviews though to be honest the card I am looking at getting is still the GTX 1080.

Lol. One more super cutdown version. We shall call it GTX970 Revision 2 Ultra VRAM edition.

Just saying...

Ah, I am just waiting to see performance benchmarks....I am curious to know how much faster it is than the GTX 970 or even how much faster then Polaris 10.

If they keep with their current scheme wouldn't the polaris 11 be competitive with the 1070 and vega the 1080 and higher?

Polaris 11 is a budget R7 370 replacement. Polaris 10 is sent to take the 250$+ market. Will it be stronger than the GTX 1070? time will tell.

I want to believe that Polaris 10 will be at least at the same lvl or higher than GTX 1070. I would really like to see a R9 480x with good overclock capabilities.

You are breaking the Rules.

Am I? Didn't know...

Sorry for the double post then :)

So it should be 30-40% slower than the 1080. Kinda disappointing.
And leaves quite a big performance gap...

Considering the price is more than 60% less then it's great. I do agree there's a large gap though. Regardless, I couldn't afford anything priced higher than this anyway, so I am happy :) Bring it on NVidia, I just need the price to be right here in Canada, pls..

I'd put it closer to 25%-30% slower than the 1080, maybe around 14k-15k firestrike score. So a fair amount faster than a 980, but a hair slower than a 980ti. That fits from a marketing/pricing standpoint and sounds about right. That's probably about the best guess at this point until we get more spec details or real benches in coming weeks. It all really depends on the oc headroom with the 1070. I suppose we can dream about a magic core unlocking fw or something too.

That would be great to see! Sales there could do a lot to improving the AMD financial picture.

6.75TFLOPS with 1600MHz max turbo? It would need more like 1750MHz turbo to achieve that with that much hardware, unless something happened in the background to keep the FPU performance higher.

Why don't you buy a Fury X then? You call anyone that buys an expensive Nvidia card a fan boy yet your specs show a 780ti. o_O
