....Answer me this, do you really think when someone is announcing a relatively high end new architecture when one of us is wondering about it that the first or even second thing we think about is sales volume? Yeah, obviously that matters but unless it's so bad compared to its' competition it looks like a turd baking in the sun AMD and NVIDIA are very safe from going out of business despite years of worries rightfully so about AMD faltering a bit...but still I defy you to tell me the first thing on a tech geek consumers mind is "Gee wonder if this new product will sell?" I can almost guarantee you first question is how well does it perform? or How efficient is it? or How hot does it run? So the point IS NOT whether sales/market etc is discussed for it IS but the fact that as consumers anxiously awaiting a new product how it sells is not first thing we will think of, maybe not even the 3rd or 4th thing unless we work for Nivida or AMD.

NOT to mention only way you can discuss how well it sells is....how does it perform? How does it perform versus other cards? How efficient is it? etc....So you can't even answer that question without answering all the others first! Unless you just wonder how well the marketing team will blow smoke up our ass so the facts and specs of the cards are totally obfuscated to the point facts don't matter and hype and BS and pretty buzz words will sell it despite however it actually performs.

1. we already know this is not the top of the line segment card, its the 480, not 490 and not "Vega" and I never said we dont wonder how to performs, but we have a general idea and we have a pricepoint given to us.
2. I love that you bring up all those other items that I myself mentioned as alternative "top spots" effectively you are just agreeing with me there is more then top end performance to graphics cards which is what I said the original comment was about.

However I don't agree whatsoever, you are seeing what you want to see, which was the original disagreement you read into "top spot" in a way I think tech readers just aren't inclined to do on first instinct whatsoever. Me bringing up the metrics of relevant performance ways of being the "top" don't render moot the fact that my whole point was your example of how a card sells being a likely metric defining "top spot"isn't the main thing people here are concerned about when they read the fancy new specs and manufacturing details...I simply disagree with that entirely.

Well this is not the first time we hear of this card, we are way way way way beyond that.
Sure if the article was "AMD announced code name "Polaris" to drive their new gpus" then we can speculate purely on how it does (With no info whatsoever, very useful speculation im sure) but again, we are way beyond that.
We know the name "480" which according to AMDs nomenclature is not their top segment card at all (which I already said in my last post).
We know the price point, 200 dollars.

So yes we are at a point to talk about how this will sell compared to Nvidias much more expensive higher segmented cards and if this is a smart move form AMD, and again, we have been doing so all over this website for days now.

Also you said "nothing to do with performance" so how the hell can you use my strictly performance examples ( ie cooling/efficiency) against me to make your point that he meant other than performance?

performance IE FPS, that is what the original reaction was referring, also not sure where you get that quote from, unless you mean the reaction that was waaaay before all of this and did not involve you yet....

SMH yes it was just before I came in, I read it, and you said it so yeah it's kinda relevant considering it's why I reacted? Besides till this thing is reviewed and drivers used however much leaked to us in specs is still speculation and we do NOT have a solid basis to know anything OTHER than as you correctly pointed out this isn't the top sku. However I guarantee "top spot" had everything to do with how it performs, NOT how it sells, and how it sells also is NOT a performance metric unless you really are stuck in a retail sales thought process while reading card info on a tech site. Just leave the sales worries to NVIDIA/AMD, they will more be more than happy to handle the smoke and mirrors job of selling steaming piles of shit to us tech pigs in our styes already double lined by steaming piles of shit.

New Leak by WCCFTECH (I which we had one RX 480 thread), they basically state standard 480 should go to 1400 and "uber editions" (called something else, I don't remember what) would cost 299$ and go over 1500Mhz:

RX 480: 1266 => 1400 is 10.5% OC
RX 480: 1266 => 1500 is 18.5% OC

for comparison:

1080: 1866 => 2050 is 9.8% OC
1080: 1866 => 2100 is 12.5% OC

To summarize: AMD's GPU is rumored to OC at least on par or much better than nVidias.

PS
Oh, and AMD to allow messing with voltage, unlike nVidia.

Saw that, still not as impressive as nvidias clocks tho which i wonder if it has to do with 14nm vs 16nm. If not then it makes me wonder if they would go even higher with newer revisions, cuz if so then they can undercut nvidias 1070 with a much smaller chip thats cheaper to manufacture. Also im sure glofo 14nm is cheaper than tsmc's 16nm since glofo doesmt have the same demand as tsmc and because amd has a huge order of waffers since zen is also 14nm

CF "leak", faster than 1080 in CF, although I'd say single card perf isn't that impressive:

XFX spotted with 1288Mhz base clock.
Which is somewhat weird.

nvidia is reaching 2ghz+ this round on 16nm so if we are strictly talking about clockspeed then nvidia is doing better there, maybe you're not getting it?

You are the only one in this thread caring about clockspeed on its own.
I find it hilarious, sorry.

So are you the same guy who is impressed by a 5ghz bulldozer cpu? Higher clock speed doesn't mean better performance than the lower clocked competition. Clock speeds for two different gpus mean nothing in comparison. If all you want is clock speed I have a p4 I can sell you.

This is on par/better than my 290 - which runs every game i play on ultra at 1080p - but does so with half the damn wattage, in a physically small card. THAT. IS. AWESOME.

Trolling agreed, I just was making an attempt at logic and rational discussion as to terms and relevance of new cards and what really matters. So far as I was concerned I was sorting the trolling out and trying to do so in an entertaining way, come on, gotta find the pig analogies somewhat clever:).

Is there an Anti-troll gun that Techpowerup created that instantly exterminates trolls? Based on "Dalek" technology?

The 480 is faster than an overlocked GTX980. It's more of an R9 Fury replacement. Also, if the RX cards are good overclokers, then an overclocked 480 could get very close to the FuryX. We know from the GTX1070 that the 256bit GDDR5 memory subsystem of the card should be able to sustain FuryX level of graphics performance, so that's also a possibility.
I personally think you are going to be VERY dissapointed when these cards launch.

It's still a toss up for me. There could be very good reason amd isn't talking about their high end at all. This could be the cards that they sank their limited R&D into. These very well could be the bargain of the generations. We don't know we will know here soon though and considering both consoles already announced they will use them I am mildly optimistic.

honestly, a cheap, small, low power/heat card is more likely to flood the market than something triple its price. They could be going for the bulk sale here to average joe 1080p gamer.

Average Joe 1080p can run a 460/470 from the rumor mill. These will be 144hz/1440p cards if things hold true

So are you the same guy who is impressed by a 5ghz bulldozer cpu? Higher clock speed doesn't mean better performance than the lower clocked competition. Clock speeds for two different gpus mean nothing in comparison. If all you want is clock speed I have a p4 I can sell you.

I said nothing at all about performance in my comments so it seems you are missing the point.

1. Go back and look at the post i was replying to, that post was talking about how amd has similar or even better oc headroom that nvidia, which is true because amd is clocking this thing very conservatively at stock, so i simply said this round nvidia got mad clocks and i wonder if it has anything to do with 14nm vs 16nm. Does that make more sence now? How about you guys contribute to a logical argument rather than being all offended. And secondly, any sane person will not compare gpu to cpu, in cpu single threaded performance is important so clock as well as ipc go hand in hand, then after than comes number of cores, gpus on the other hand arent that way since its all about fitting as many cores and clocking them as high as you possibly can before reaching thermal headroom. So while clock is not everything, it still works differently than with cpus
