HiFiMAN's newest high-end headphone, the Edition X, bears a striking resemblance to their flagship HE-1000. It uses the same driver design without the fancy nano materials found in the $1200 more expensive HE-1000, but is, at $1799, still the second most expensive headphone in HiFiMAN's line-up.

How does the bass compare to the HE-500?

I honestly don't feel any need to upgrade in terms of sq, only in weight.

At that price point, I would rather go with Mr Speakers Ether Flow lineup which is a combination of planar and electrostatic sound signatures.

Also, for not much more you could do a STAX 007A which many consider to be king in that price range, but since the Ether Flow is new... I am not so sure anymore, Ether Flow I think is my end game.

The bass level is a bout the same, but it depends greatly on which pads you use. With the softer HE-500 pleather pads they will have more bass than the Edition X. The advantage of the Edition X is that they have a smoother frequency response and are better behave in the treble area in general. A major advantage is that they are much more comfortable!
