"leftover code", how cute.

While I could believe that some code would be written the same even with different developers (there's only a few ways to write shader code after all) the fact that the code comes with the very same comments and tags pretty much guaranteed that nvidia lifted (not going to say stole since the code is free for comercial use) the code directly from Marty's work. Good thing Marty is getting the recognition he deserves.
Recognition, but no financial gain for it. pfff

Normally i dislike images on forums because they are generally just cliche memes repeated. But this is awesome. Thank you!

EDIT: ok, to avoid being off-topic only: Why didn't they credit him in the first place?? Passing others work as yours is just fucked up.

I like nVidia products, I like green, and cant wait to replace my 270X for a 1070, but seriously, they do some really shady stuff.

Marketing may not be 100% honest by nature, but there got to be a limit.

I still find this staggeringly ironic. We were talking about some creative code excerpts, intellectual property at best that originated with an entity called Marty McFly Modding. What leg does Marty McFly Modding have to stand on when the very name is use of someone else's idea or intellectual property? Well, apparently none since this sorted in about 2 days.

Honestly I never liked sweet FX or any of those shader things he did.. They made games look worse in my opinion.. So I'm glad they are coming out..

It's night and day for crappy textures and washed out colors like dishonored. Improves it by at least 200%.

And neither do we have anything running PhysX....ok a handful of games got some extra orbs flying around, woohoo...
Nvidia went about it all wrong, if they had to buy out Ageia (which they did not) make it free to use for everyone except demand that at the start of a product using it its mentioned "PhysX brought to you by Nvidia" so that every game using it advertises for Nvidia (and then rightly so if Nvidia is supporting and developing the feature) but nope.avi.
Instead they just bought it out and basically signed its death warrant with this bs.

Was it not Nvidia that also bought out this company that was aspiring to bring us real time raytracing? hmm wonder where that went....
Nvidia is basically like EA, buy out possible competition, shove it under the rug and continue on with your baby step progress for maximum profit.

Few games using PhysX that still look just tiny bit better than physics in Red Faction from 2001 running entirely on single core CPU. Most hilarious shit ever.

I keep reminding everyone that nvidia killed CPU physx perf, b/c it was on par or faster than GPU years ago. GPUs have outpaced CPUs for the most part, I'm sure, but it proves that all physx can be done on the CPU and achieve the same result.

They killed physx by being shady and made sure that even AMD users couldn't use it with an extra nvidia card. Well done!

this is the problem. nvidia spend their own resource to acquire PhysX and continue developing the software further then everyone get free lunch? and no PhysX is not dead. in fact far from it. now PhysX become the second most used Physic engine after havok in games. even havok feeling the heat. remember there is news post being post here in TPU about havok mentioning what latest games using their engine? in the past they don't even bother talking about it. now they suddenly try to remind people that they are the one powering some of the latest game.

I also partially blame Microsoft for not providing standardized physics library within DirectX. If they did, we could have games with hardware accelerated physics that also affect gameplay. But if API only supports one vendor, you can only do pointless eye candy gimmicky effects. Apparently no one learned anything from Half-Life 2 and its utilization of CPU physics to create immersive gameplay. Imagine possibilities with proper GPU accelerated physics.

It'd be nice, and frankly even if the code is free for comercial use it would be good form for nVidia to at least remunerate the guy in some form. Sponsoring would be nice, they could pay for server costs for few years or so.

Anyway, Mark didn't ask for any compensation in the first place, he just wanted to be in the credits as his license stipulates.

I know you are trolling hard, because SMAA is the BEST invention since 3Dfx released the VooDoo 3D card.

Oh? got any link to where you got that info?
Because "second most used physics engine" sounds impressive until you realize the actually distribution is 99% v 1%.
And Havok was always mentioning what games it was in man, every game that uses it mentioned it on start up, just because you were not paying attention does not mean it was not there.
(hey that would be a great idea for Nvidia!....oh wait I already typed that)

PhysX as developed by Ageia had all the signs that it could propel us into a new era but then Nvidia had to kill that possibility by buying it out and making it proprietary so that again nobody uses it.
And "free lunch"? did I not explain last time how Nvidia was suppose to go about it?

But go ahead, tell me what games seriously use PhysX and not some watered down version of it that just runs on the cpu so that everyone can use it, because im sure that version would indeed be widely used because its not the full force version which again, is only because they made it proprietary.
They reaaaally shot themselves and the world in the foot, and when Havok advances further (Its been under microsofts care since 2015) I hope it kills PhysX for good.

No, I'm not... I've used his crappy shaders before and I always uninstall them, because they always end up causeing some kind of issue with darks vs whites... But hey since you said I'm trolling, I must be... /yawn.. I don't like it.. Deal with it..

Well what do you expect, guy licensed it as FREE for commercial use. Would you expect money from something you give away for free? He isn't.

PhysX will be dead i a year or maybe sooner.
Remember Vulcan API?? Anyone?
Havok will be implementing their free PhysX engine for use while Nvidia uses their own.
Since most of the games have Havok phisics support, AMD will have phisics with their GPUs.

Don't be too hasty. You know there are people that will mark this day down, and will call you out next year when PhysX is not dead, which it very likely won't be.

Go ahead and lookup the number of recent games with PhysX. It's not huge, but it's not anywhere near death. It's about the same percentage as always.

Isn't that the Hantol PSU guy? 'Nuff said. :)

Yes, it is me. And do not worry, the PSU is still alive, working well on another machine. :)

Back on topic:
Havok is aiming to optimise and use phisics for all gpu vendors, including IGPU.
While Nvidia is keeping their tech to themselves, Havok shares their software for free, and you can basicly run it on everything, as long as it has enought horse power to do it.

So you dont have to pay extra to run it, and it is avalable on almost every game that has PhysX.

I guess we will see what happenes with it, but with so many companies giving away their tech for free use, im asuming that Nvidia will drop hard early future if they do nor cooperate for a better overall tech community.

And there is my connection to Vulkan, since this API is very effucient, it is a possibility that PhysX becomes a standard to an API software so it will be optimised to run on anything and everything developed to use PhysX.

You keep speaking as if they were a separate company. They were acquired by Microsoft in October last year. It is now a software (physics) suite, owned by MS. And nothing has changed in the business model, so I don't know why you keep speaking as if suddenly Havok is all-powerful and will smite down all paid solutions.
