This is not exactly "new news".
And the whine here... ah... delicious.
Whine? Perhaps. Your stupid comment? Definitely. Seriously - if you have nothing to say, keep your mouth shut.

Really Microsoft? are you that retarded? there is a reason why over 50% of all PC users use Windows 7, if you dont see it then your only shooting yourself in the foot! Just another reason to move over to Linux.
It's simple. 98% of Windows 7's userbase is either too inept to upgrade and/or fears something may go wrong during the upgrade process or simply doesn't care about it at all. Whereas probably only as little as 1% of the users do not upgrade because they don't want to compromise their principles about privacy. And the other 1% left have their own weird reasons for doing so...

Edit: This post is adressing the public side of things. Businesses have different reasons for not upgrading (mainly $$$).

How about all the Companies out there (80%) that are still using Windows 7 machines due to various reasons (mine included) ??

Haven't thought about the business/enterprise side of things, kinda shines a whole new light on the subject for me.

However, I'm not prepared to new versions once or twice a year that messes up my computer, even if it's only minor things.

When the anniversary update rolled out, I thought it was just a simple update. Turns out it was a fresh OS install. The programs I use on the daily (PS,Premiere, etc.) started acting wonky and preferences weren't being save for a while. Was really a hassle for a while until I reinstalled the programs.

I remembered when I transitioned from Win7- Win 8.1 that I REALLY hated the Metro UI. The "Start" menu was really obnoxious and there was so much wasted screen estate for Metro apps. Memory Leaks left and Right and etc etc.

Win 10 was a far more better experience. Yes I miss the old "Control Panel" but once you get the hang of the new "settings" app its actually pretty neat. The old control panel is still there tho. The UI is way better now, but still leans toward the "obnoxiously big and space wasting" side, but fares better than 8.1

Guess in the end its just different tastes for people. thanks for the replies!

dont care, when I update my system in a year or so I am moving away from Win7 for good. Hopefully by then most of the developments tools that I use would be supported with Win10 without any issues.

Sorry, but I have something to say. You are whining about vendors not supporting cutting edge technology on 7 years old OS, which dies in 3 years (Win 8.1 is more arguable, it's code base and hardware support is closer to current). Sorry, but you sometimes have cut off support for the greater good.
This case really reminds me people using XP with top end DX10 hardware back when Win 7 came out.

Then there is more whine about how W10 sucks because reasons/edge cases. Well, Linux is always available, with it's own quirks and issues.

All this talk about Control Panel? The old one is still there? I have it on my desktop(Just like 7) Steam Stats currently have Win10 at 47.22% so gamers are embracing it anyway. I haven't found anything on 7 that I can't find on 10 as far "under the hood stuff" like Control Panel are still there.

windows 8/8.1/10 is just fugly. and 10 even more ugly with anniversary update, when they "upgraded" the UAC message also to this modern app look shit.
I have been using windows 10 from the first week it was launched. Using 10 at home for gaming and 7 at work, so I have like every day comparison between the 10 and 7. ... and I still hate what they have done to the looks of windows over 7. so I completely understand the people who don't want to upgrade. And don't even start me with the forced updates and reboots; the fugly new settings menu shit with half the options missing that windows 7 has; non-working group policy rules for trying to prevent auto-reboots; in-built telemetry and keyloggers and start menu advertisements ffs. => Windows 10 was designed and developed by sadists and that's the fact.

I use both daily as well, and I totally prefer Win 10 at this point. There are things to dislike (mainly the twofaced UI and update settings, but it did improve slightly with the Anniversary update), but plenty to love (proper multi monitor support without having to buy Ultramon probably being the biggest thing for me). The flat style felt wrong at first, but now Win7 just feels outdated to me.

Bla, bla, how could you use Win 10? Even Windows 3.1 already looked way better... Anyway I'll stay with Skylake long as Windows 7 usable, than I go MacOS.

Scare tactics. always ways around this.

OS/2 users thought so... They had a name for it:

They kept it running until about 2 years after IBM ended support, to be fair. :p

At any rate, yes it will probably run. Much like OS/2 will run on a modern comp with hackery (namely, a very specific VM). But much like OS/2, with no chipset drivers it will run worse and worse with every itteration until it's performance is so bad as to be irrelevant.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a W10 critic. But you're lying to yourself if you think the train your on isn't going towards a cliff.

I like windows 10. From private ( but not personal ) point of view I am ok with that. I don't like going backwards. Business side of things - I can't talk about it, as I don't own a business. From small scale businesses, that already own Home and Business editions, I suppose it won't be a big change. For medium and large enterprises, that get Volume Licenses, etc. , this tactic might not be so bad. After all when they buy many new laptops with Kaby/ Zen probably edition of Win 10 will be included as embedded edition, but I am not sure.

Steam Stats currently have Win10 at 47.22%

Keep in mind, that is only a stat for Steam gamers, not a total percentage. The reality is despite being a free upgrade for a year, W10 adoption was incredibly low.

Oh I agree I'm sure total adoption numbers are different but even that percentage is still going up. It has said it has been the fastest adopted OS ever but hard to refute that when it was "free"..

I didn't exactly argue it was. Consumers always get the shaft in the end, man.

Of course, you could go into a relationship with Tux, but that fat penguin has always given me the creeps.

Besides, I tried it this weekend and it didn't end well. *sighs*

Well, while I see it as somewhat underhanded they want people to move up to the new platform so they can direct their focus on the new OS. Windows 7 is getting quite old at this point and really needs to start disappearing as we have had 2.5 OS's released since then (I could 8.1 as a half) so we can all move on. Windows 10 does have a few downsides, but so did all the previous OS's. If we spend some time with it and get used to it, we realize all the new features and bonuses we like that are now part of it.

I have been on it ever since it came out, sure I have run into issues before on it but nothing that makes me want to flip my keyboard. Personally I like it.

I endorse your freedom of choice. I for one won't go backwards though, I'm hoping on improved Linux support in gaming fields.

To be fair most companies aren't upgrading from windows 7 because little things like software they have limped from the windows xp days would cost money to rewrite and if they couldn't be bothered to make it work correctly with 7 what makes you think they will with 10, and windows 10 on a 10 year old p4 isn't exactly a good fit. Quite a few companies are still chugging along on those and first gen core 2's.

The new Control Panel is perfectly fine, they are just transitioning settings from old one to new one, that's why things look a bit funny being in two places.

You have no clue what you are talking about. The new "perfectly fine" control panel is seriously dumbed down and gimped shit. From every control panel setting page they already have "transitioned" half of the things are missing or not customizable anymore. This is not "perfectly fine" but bullshit.

This is what I was trying to explain in my previous post. The larger companies, specialy the financial ones, have very good reasons for NOT wanting to upgrade to 10. My company is relativelly small company with only a couple of thusands of users and Win 7 licenses, but all out laptops have custom build images, with special applications installed by default, etc. Because of Life Cycle Management and specially budget, upgrading to Win 10 is not only unpractical for now, but also funancially not feasible. For the user's purpose, Win 7 is perfect, so why do you need to upgrade all company to a different OS of that is not required.
However we are buying NEW laptops almost monthly, and the old ones are replaced by HP based on a special contract our company have with them.

Leasing perhaps?

From business point of view, there are plenty of reasons not to upgrade. As a small business owner myself, I can see plenty of reasons.

I thought we were talking about personal PCs though.
