ASRock's updated X99 board for gamers, the ASRock Fatal1ty X99 Professional Gaming i7, is fitted with all the latest goodies, including a bundled NVIDIA HB Bridge so you can get the most out of your pair of GTX 1070s or GTX 1080s. Dual M.2, dual Intel LAN, this board is all about gaming pairs!

No lighting isnt a con but a big plus. I would just like to see illuminated back I/O rather than nauseating leds all over the board.
Yeah, the LED thing is obviously subjective, and as such, doesn't reflect on the final scoring.

It's a barren X99 motherboard, usually it is full of PCIe X16 slots but his one only have 3, two PCIe X1 and a couple of M2 slots. Very odd.

When it comes to a gaming-focused product, it makes sense to me that it would be, given what devices might be plugged into those slots. There also has to be consideration for space for the M.2 ports, without making the board larger than it really needs to be. Yet that's still good feedback.

Agreed, I like what AsRock done to this motherboard instead of put a boatload of feature most people don't even use they kept things to minimum but still usable. Still, I would prefer the second PCIe X1 slot to be at the bottom of the motherboard because some PCIe X1 expansion card like soundcard is rather large (think ASUS Xonar STX and Creative ZXR) and might limit the graphic card cooling especially the triple slot ones.

Yeah, I hear you, although I think they intend upper PCIe x1 slot (above the x16 slots) to be used for sound card. It's not like this is the only ASRock X99 board, either, so you definitely do have options should the slot layout not conform to your exact needs.

With sli dropping to 2 card support and anything more than dual card crossfire retarded, it makes sense (for a gaming machine)

It still has a 3rd full size slot for an intel 750 or future even faster pci-e ssd

I like it, and thought the z170 professional gaming i7 looked pretty cool, nicer than the Kxx series boards

Nice X99 motherboard.
But...I would like more this i7-6950X.... Hmmm... perfect.
Or i7-6900K... I search for ES for some nice price but can't find.

I would like to prepare my X99 platform for AMD Zen... But for now nothing cheap except Xeons V4 ES.
Everything must be fair 8 cores vs 8 cores.
New AMD Zen from 2017 vs Intel one year old on 3 years old chipset, same clock...
Target 4.2GHz - 1000MHz overclock capability and results. Than we can say something more.
But looks like AMD will be ready exactly for X299 chipset. That would be interesting...
I predict if AMD launch slower than Skylake-EX for more than 40% Intel will show up with higher price
6-8-10 cores, 48 PCI-E lanes on all, 499-999-1499 price. Don't forget they talk about biggest improvemtn after Nehalem.
That mean i7 should be replaced with new concept completely soon. I could not used to see high end platform without i7 on start.
Last 7 years we look that. Actually I can't imagine high end RIG without i7 K on start.
He make me to feel warm near hearth compare to other processors.
But if AMD show CPU same as Broadwell-EX price of 6-8-10 could be 399-599-999$ for X299.
That will be amazing platform, I feel butterfuies in stomach only when I think on Rampage 6 and Skylake-EX 6 cores.
