Newegg price match worthless

After having the price of three items change, while completing my payment at Newegg, I contacted customer service. They would not fix. They acknowledged that I received an add that pointed to an expiring ad from the previous day. They acknowledged that they had the same item on ebay for the price I was attempting to buy it at. They pointed me to their policy, which was amended for the cyber friday / monday and green monday 2016 sales.

I also read through the select list of "competitors" some of whom they resell through.

So after years of buying from Newegg, and once trying to get a price match, I have come to the conclusion that it is a worthless offering.

Thanks to an earlier poster on this forum, who discovered the same thing a year or so ago, and posted it. I am reposting to create an awareness for others.

You joined TPU to leave a bad review about Newegg?.......o_O

Do you work for Amazon?

What's bad is I've had similar experiences, but despite me wanting to agree, this just screams "shill for another company" to me.

Nah, I am a retired scientist from an aerospace company, and work part-time teaching computer science at a SUNY school. Never worked for Amazon. Besides I understand they sell for Newegg.

I have been buying things from Newegg for about 15 years, and have recommended them to others. Spent lots of my money and more of others there. I posted here because I found someone else's post saying about the same thing, as I was fuming about things. The rest of the site looked interesting, so I joined, started a new thread, vented, and read around the site.

I don't like misleading advertising, and as far as I am concerned, Newegg has dished some of it out.

My point is simply, don't count on their "price match" when picking up hardware, because there are loopholes which make it unlikely that you will actually get a price match.

i have gotten in the habit of Forcing theyre "price match" hand so to speak.
before i stopped doing business with NE, i would contact them BEfore i made the purchase, verify that they Would honor it, THEN i made the purchase. its against theyre policy, but i explained the basic story You posted in the OP. it is a shitty system, but to be fair, its a shitty system @ most retailers....not just Newegg

i recently just tried it, and they refused a PM for an amazon item (fyi i dont think they have EVER matched Ebay prices since they are Auction) and i spoke with a girl from newegg about the item, she looked at it, then refused the PM for some reason i dont recall, so i simply told her..."okay, ill order it from amazon"

when a company loses its connection with they buyer, they lose more than business... frankly, i find honoring a price of an item that another store is selling cheaper, 3 weeks after the purchase isnt all that convenient anyway( getting back $9 ....21 days later is just a complicated process it should be faster)...i used to get them PM @ purchase,,,but they only allowed it once...why would i bother with thePM? when i can just order it from The lower priced competitor? these are reasons that retailers need to make PM an easier function, or offer for the buyer, otherwise what is our incentive to go thru it?

They had the same item on ebay, buy it now, sold by Newegg, and would not match their own price.

The same item is sold on Amazon, by "Adata" for $7 more than the price I was trying to match.

I liked it when Newegg and others started doing price matches. CompUSA and Computer City matched prices. It provided some confidence that within a couple of days you weren't going to regret the purchase you made too quickly.

Newegg wants you to have that confidence, they just don't want to deliver. Hence the changing T&Cs and the definition of who their "competitors" are, some of which are known channels for Newegg. It's not what it might appear to be at first blush.

You didn't keep them on the phone long enough. Or plead you cases right

i agree....but My opinion is that the Process itself is flawed. The PM Should occur under 3-5 business days @ the MOST.
i have had Several successful PM's from NE, and they Routinely take over a week & 1/2. thats too long. what i end up with is this....

a ton of under $10 Gift Cards that act like handcuffs, locking me into a relationship with NE, that since they have gone to Shit, is a toxic one way relationship...i buy from them, they take my money. its taken me over a year to get trhu all of my "left over" small GC's...from PM's etc...

IMO PM should occur @ the point of purchase. for example...

Amazon has item "Z" for $10.
Newegg has item "Z" for $15

when i check out @ newegg i should be able to link the item from amazon, or post a pic, or some process with a live Rep, that takes the amazon price, and changes the newegg price to match it,. immediately. in a perfect world i guess.

Item was ADATA SU800 256GB, went into my cart at $62.99. When I finished the payment, the price went up.

I would no longer buy from Newegg even if the deal was to good to seem true! That is since they changed ownership! Now for me its just a another Store I avoid like it was the plague! My information and CC info will never ever be on their servers. Oh and my buying power is huge because I'm the in Purchasing and all IT related purchasing Software/Hardware all come threw me and none goes to Newegg! I support a business that has a huge R and D department and over 20,250 employee's.

I doubt they wiped there servers for an ownership change, so if you have ever bought from them they already have your info.

All cards I had on their old ownership have been cancelled and account information put into dead status. First thing. Part of my processes when a company I procure from goes SKETCHY.

Well, I don't like it either, but welcome to the new world. China is buying up the world at an alarming rate. Eventually it could be your company too.

That sounds like a good idea.

I've had yet another "wonderful" experience with Newegg.com again.my own fault for trusting them again

My eight-year-old daughter is turning nine in a week actually now,its five days till. She wanted a nice digital point and shoot camera, nothing ridiculously fancy just a reliable nice camera. I found one last week, Picked which color (they had three or four different colors),and then placed the order, paid for it, and put my shopping for her birthday to bed(or so i thought:shadedshu:).

Today I got an email from the marketplace seller, asking me to cancel the order citing insufficient stock (mind you its been four days since I made the purchase, and five days until it needs to be here for her birthday). In essence screwing me. Keep in mind I haven't blown my lid yet ,so I asked politely what resolution can you offer?as I still need a camera in five days ....they can offer my money back in 1 to 2 weeks . So now I'm out the camera, the money to replace the camera, and there is a day between each responding email of course as always. And the reason I posted it in this thread is because Newegg acts like I have the T-virus, and wants nothing to do with me. They'll except no responsibility, they won't standby the customer, all they'll do is repeatedly tell me please email the seller. It's not like I bought this on camera sellers.com, I bought it on Newegg.com I don't care that it's a marketplace item. Apparently the down slope of this hill that newegg is sliding down is very very long, because every time I think they couldn't be any more disappointing they surprised me and they go a step further or should I say step lower.

Edit
It slipped my mind to mention what I believe is the actual reason for them asking me to cancel this order. Keep in mind earlier in this post I mentioned a selection of more than a few different colors of this type of camera all listed at the same price. IMO,they listed the camera too cheap ($40'ish). And now instead of taking their licks & admitting their mistake they're going to take it out on me , because God for bid they lose out 20 bucks or whatever. Now the cameras show as out of stock, as well as now they're priced at $160. Why would they change the price? The further that customer support and integrity gets away from the primary goal of any retailer the further quality drops

I just filed a Better Business Bureau claim regarding new eggs business practices as of late, and poor treatment of customers

At this rate, I hope't they don't eye ball my favorite Store MicroCenter. They still offer decent prices when you bundle e.g. CPU/Motherboard. I was offered $50 discount when I combined 1800X w/Asus Crosshair VI. But in the end after paying taxes, it cost the same as anywhere else.

Micro Center is still a "hell" of a lot cheaper even with tax. I've never ordered from them online I always go in person that's the whole point. In my state sales tax is 6.25%. I last bought a 4690k from them @ $180 ,after sales tax of $12.00, thats still only $192.00(if i bought a MoBo it would have been more savings), the lowest you'll find @ that time. 4690k online or otherwise bnib was around $240'ish(speaking of over a year ago, they were the newest intel chips of the time), give or take $10.

A piece of me will die if Micro Center ever closes. one of my favorite parts of my "Local" MC. is the fact that they are still rocking the old 80's sign....not the newer ones you see on modern MC's...i cant find an image online of it, ill need to take a pic next time im there(mvrmnd , they changed it :( )...

Be thankful you don't pay 8.6%. After paying local taxes my Ryzen combo evens out for me.

in O.K? its that high?
Geez! & i thought Taxachusetts was bad. lets all goto Deleware, and buy there for Zero sales tax :) .

i remember a buddy ofmine years ago had a bright idea to save a ton on sales tax, so he bought his LExus IS300 in DE, and once he came home, registered it, the sales tax is then due  he was SUCH an idiot.

You guys are so lucky 8.6% as tax
try the UK VAT rate of 20% ( and that is on top of a higher retail sales price )

@jboydgolfer I'd be really pissed off too if I went through what you did.

Unfortunately, these marketplace sellers could be anybody and can still try to screw you over even though they're operating under Newegg or Amazon. We don't have Newegg here in Blighty, but of course we have Amazon, where I avoid marketplace sellers wherever possible.

I had a client come to me to fix his PC once. I told him to buy a new copy of Windows 7 as part of the fix which he did, but it was a marketplace purchase since he just hit "buy" without checking that the purchase was actually from Amazon and the marketplace seller flogged him a pirate copy. You could tell by looking at the disc and packaging that it was fake and the kicker was that the Windows key was blocked by Microsoft. I wouldn't be surprised if the setup disc was actually infected with malware too.

I told him to go back to Amazon about it, but he pleaded cluelessness about computers and got me to go through the hassle of having that refunded to him and another copy bought from Amazon this time. What a fucking pain. Amazon didn't quibble though and didn't want the pirate software back, just said to chuck it.

Avoid marketplace sellers whenever you can.

In my opinion that's not a tax that's rape. And I don't like to throw that word around. But it's just for lack of a better term unconstitutional

Wow, that sucks. Thing is in England, everything is charged at a 20% vat rate, so this problem doesn't happen.

Who do you buy from instead?

I agree 100%. The difference is,atleast Amazon will stick up for the buyer to some degree. With Newegg they act like you bought it at Amazon and want nothing to do with you. I actually spoke with the seller and I got to the bottom of what they claim the issue was.

According to the seller Newegg linked them incorrectly. That item page shouldn't have led to their marketplace so basically Newegg said this seller had an item that they never even had. Basically false advertising but I'm sure they'll hide behind technical difficulties or some other bull crap. After expressing my disappointment the marketplace seller offered a full refund as well as an additional five dollars for any hassle I've gone through. If it was just this issue I would suck it up and MoveOn, but it's not I actually had a digital purchase go wrong about a week and a half ago. I ordered Malwarebytes one year key for three PCs and it has already been activated on three devices. Meaning the key Newegg sold me was already redeemed. And they didn't hesitate to remind me that they do not refund or replace digital purchases even though I could prove it was a used key. I agree it's best to avoid at all costs second or third-party sellers. But you have to agree at least on some level that if Amazon or Newegg are hosting these sellers they should have some level of responsibility. The whole reason these third-party sellers want to be hosted on sites like Amazon and Newegg is because of the good name they have online , any buyer is going to go with Amazon over Larry's camera service.com any day of the week.it's just an opinion of mind that the hosting website should hold some responsibility or liability

anyway, for what its worth (likely nothing at all) i filed a complaint with the better business bureau, and i hope it makes a differecnce. I was lookign at newegg.com's rating on the BBB website, and its something like 80% negative

see here for yourself (82% negative out of 61 reviews, 50 negative,9 positive,2 neutral) over 1,000 complaints)

The Better Business Bureau is a for profit private company that anyone including criminals can purchase a membership from---and often do!
They are not a consumer protection agency of the government, what you want to do is contact the Massachusetts Attorney General;
http://www.mass.gov/ago/bureaus/public-protection-and-advocacy/the-consumer-protection-division/

I found that dealing with Marketplace sellers on Newegg can be trouble and often they carry products that Newegg does not stock, I found that Newegg can do nothing about any issue except revoke permission to sell there, which means firing a paying customer.
