UPDATE 1, 1PM UTC: The first cards have started trickling in, with Vega 56 being available on Overclockers UK for £379 ($490), and MindFactory.de for €409 (~$490, max. 2 units limit per customer on MindFactory). Note the £379 on Overclockers UK is being listed as a "Launch Only" price, so I think we can all agree on where this is headed.

UPDATE 2, 1:11 PM UTC: Stock on MindFactory.de is gone. Last information on "More than 5" sold. 4 in stock at Overclockers UK at 13:15 PM UTC. 1 in stock at 13:16 PM UTC. If you want one of these, pull the trigger; pricing will be £470 ($608) for one of these with two "free games". All gone from Overclockers UK at £379, 13:25 PM.

UPDATE 3, 1:28 PM UTC: Well, if stock existed, it was gone so fast I couldn't even press F5 in time. Stock on Newegg at $399 is gone.

August 28th marks the date when AMD's RX Vega 56 graphics card will enter retail sales (1 PM UTC). Whether or not that will happen at AMD's MSRP of $399 remains to be seen, but we are cautiously pessimistic on that front, considering what has been happening with its big brother, RX Vega 64, since its introduction to the market. Industry sources point towards a continued limited supply of Vega 64 graphics cards at least until October; and since the Vega 56 graphics card makes use of the same GPU, HBM2 memory stacks, and packaging process for its interposer, chances are it will see the same problems as its more expensive brethren.

Expect this space to be updated as soon as these cards hit retail, with the current pricing and stock availability (or unavailability, if that ends up being the case). Considering all of the above and the fact that Vega 56 is the most interesting model in the Vega family, if you want one of these at the retail $399, and paraphrasing an esteemed gaming character, you "gotta go fast".

So many people out there willing to throw money at something so mediocre.

..bizarre.

At $399? The Vega 56 isn't mediocre at that pricing. In fact, a $429 AIB card with custom cooling would be pretty, pretty interesting against the GTX 1070, at its current pricing. AIB cards will definitely outperform AMD's reference air cooling design across the board.

Vega 64, now that's mediocre at the street prices it's at.

Currently have gtx780sli but it aged like milk so considering the vega56. People will buy as it will be 2-3 years before Navi is released, but before this happens maybe some vega refresh is possible?

They didn't even come out at $399... :(

EDIT: Newegg did, gotcha.

I was spamming F5, and never even saw one in stock before the product was listed as out of it, so, I'm not sure that they even did.

No offense, but isn't this a bit too much? Updates on how much cards cost and how many were sold?
This is just a GPU. It's not even a mainstream model!

While it's still far away, we're moving in the direction of these idiotic iPhone launches with queues forming 2 days earlier. :-/

Maybe for some, like you, but maybe not for all users, considering this is the Vega graphics card that users of our site and forums might be looking out for.

Besides, the circumstances of this launch, and the general videocard market as of now, aren't in the same situation as a mere iPhone launch. Pricing isn't fixed, as in those launches, supply isn't nearly enough to cover demand, and you don't have 73 different companies selling videocards with comparable feature sets and pricing for users to flock to if anything goes wrong with one product.

However, thanks for making my time feel valued =)

I am curious to see if they had stock... can anyone with creds contact newegg and see? That would be great reporting. :)

Considering the potential shenanigans AMD has put everyone through, I have to admit I see their finger on the pulse here....

OMG on "the Vega graphics card" that people on this site are looking for. TPU users are looking at/for gear all the time. Where was the last time when you made a "live" launch like this one?
Not only it is not a mainstream card, it's not even that good. You're just adding to the hype that AMD themselves are pretty good at creating.

Say what... let's wait a month and see how many TPU users actually bought a Vega. That will be fun to check, won't it?

Actually, if I remember the reviews correctly, wasn't the 56 actually the pretty good card? It was the 64 that was overhyped and underwhelming.

When?* Never. Should only past history inform our actions in the present? Looking at vega 64's launch, why not do it? I think it's much better to have it than not to have it. You have a right to disagree, naturally.

Not only it is not a mainstream card, it's not even that good. You're just adding to the hype that AMD themselves are pretty good at creating.

Your own opinion, which our own objective review found, at its announced price-point, to be a pretty good match for the competition in price/performance terms. Also, really? Adding to the hype? Have you even read the article, and the previous ones before that?

Say what... let's wait a month and see how many TPU users actually bought a Vega. That will be fun to check, won't it?

I hadn't noticed that the only measure of interest in a given product is exactly how many units it moves in the market. I have an obviously incomplete vision on that, compared to you.

Also, kudos for ignoring half my arguments and answering exactly none of them.

I don't know why I'm even having an argument about this. It's extra content, increased coverage, that you have for free. People really do complain about everything.

Not sure you could have your facts any more borked... :(

As was said, the 56's performance and MSRP put it competing quite well against NVIDIA. I would certainly call this a mainstream card as well. I'm not sure why it matters since it's not flagship.. and even if it was, considering what has transpired with pricing and availability with 64, seeing his take on stock and pricing is pretty good information to see. Better than a stale its here article and getting paid $5 for it. ;)

None of them are worth getting for gaming. They only make sense for specific compute workloads.
