I'm not pulling the trigger till aftermarket PCB's and coolers are out, personally. Also going to go with a 1440 freesync monitor, probably 27" ...have about $1,000 set aside from parting out my old primary rig and 290x graphics cards.

Well at least it is a stock cooler actually made with high quality parts this time - fan is of same quality comparable to HD 5970/HD6990 and Nvidia ref cards. It has "nice" sounding air sound to it and doesn't sound cheap - hard to describe. The cooler itself is a vampor chamber cooler, nothing cheap either. Not saying it is better than a custom cooler, but it is certainly not "bad" - nothing like the R9 290X cooler or HD 7970, those were a hot and extremely loud mess. This thing is actually quite under control.

And to stay on topic: nice, seems that AMD has finally solved the supply issues.

Instead almost the entirety of the noise comes from the air flow.
Also the shape of the actual heatsinks helps as well, compare to the older AMD reference cards I have, the fin stack is less dense but is wider and longer.
Also the stock fan profile limits the fans to 2400 rpm max, so they are actually not loud at stock

Down volt overclock and you hardly even hear the fan.. I've got 2 as well and your right, they're really acceptable for noise when tuned right

Already have my GTX1080 for over a year, so I gladly bought a G-SYNC monitor for €899 (35", curved, 3440x1440p, 100Hz) last week. There are no comparable 35" FreeSync monitors (only with bad resolution). There are some 34" screens, but they are in the same price bracket.. Thought it was more of a $200 premium for a G-SYNC module. Won't downgrade to VEGA for that.

400 is still tad much. I'm not touching it when the more powerful 1080 can go for around for 100 plus or more depending on the retailer. Unless the 1070 is at 350, it's not worth a buy IMO.

Edit: (A decent AIB 1070 in my country is almost at 500 euro mark. FFS, kill me. Now 400 doesn't seem that bad.) I found cards in UK for prices comparable to US. Guess who is going to buy hardware there...

Then again the GTX 1080 is overkill for most people. Plus it's been more than a year since Pascal release, wouldn't it be better to save up more and go for Volta? When it finally releases. They already have working silicon, the V series Tesla card.

Though I am looking at it from the perspective of selling the card to upgrade later, the value of higher end cards drops dramatically in EU when the next-big-thing releases, unless it is lackluster compared to previous performance improvements.

Or maybe what if Nvidia pulls an Intel and releases Volta in low stock, thus making prices skyrocket, making Pascal cards more attractive, thus keeping their prices the same as they are now. They better not be reading this.

A Vega 56 on the other hand can be had for a measly 600 euros here. That's right kiddos. While the RX 580 is almost 400, even some go for 570 and over. I wish I never saw that. I need a better job.

Pretty much exactly what I meant, yeah. A GPU, or anything else, can be loud on db meters, but it always depends what kind of noise it is. There are noises of equal loudness level, that differentiate in such a way that one noise is annoying as fuck and another simply is "loud", but not annoying at all. When I had premium reference cards, even with a high overclock, it was never a issue, simply because of this fact. But cheap reference cards like the R9 290X? Pretty much a no thanks.

I went to the largest online shop in my country, not all of us can buy in the US. I did my homework here. Plus those cheap 34" aren't curved. I have been looking for months for these kind of monitors. I should have added comparable = curved with high refresh rate. Sorry, typed too fast indeed.

Looked on newegg global (10 monitors 34-35 inch with 3440x1440). There are only G-Sync screens with these specs. All Freesync ones have 60Hz screens. Of course they will be cheaper then. No fixed results when overclocking these.

Edit: Cheapest available and comparable freesync monitor is an acer x34 for 699 dollars from newegg US.

Freesync ranges are sketchy, that's the part they're not mentioning in their marketing. With nvidia g-sync you always get a 30-144/165/200/240 range. Why ? Cause you can't just slap a g-sync sticker on any monitor.

It's not exactly untrue, Freesync monitors can vary quite a lot in specs, while g-sync has more features per default. Freesync can run over more output options though, but I don't think these work on high res with high refresh rates anyway.

You can have multi sources running VRR on same monitor only sacrificing 24hz at the top end.

You can also have 3 sources capable of VRR plugged in. 2xHDMI 1xDP on some models.

Correction, Some first gen monitors do it also 1xHDMI 1xDP. Spare connector might be useful if those consoles get FreeSync enabled.

Yeah, did the math now, it should work on HDMI 2.0 up to 121,12Hz (3440x1440).
However, some monitors, like my brand new one, still come with HDMI 1.4. This has a 68.64Hz limitation according to my calculations (on 3440x1440).

Neither you can get Vega 56 for 450$, right? Anyways, my point was that GTX1070 is a better product (IMO) than Vega 56 and cost less without any super discounts and rebates.
