NVIDIA has been doing a great job maintaining its leadership position in the discrete, high-performance graphics segment with its Pascal graphics cards. Rival AMD delivered a somewhat unconvincing effort with its RX Vega graphics cards - to which NVIDIA has already answered the most interesting AMD graphics card in that lineup, the Vega 56, with its own GTX 1070 Ti. As such, corporate bottom lines and profit maximization likely mean that the company is in no rush to introduce its Volta architecture to the gaming market. However, the company's recent tease either marks the first iteration of a halo product based on the company's Volta architecture to the market, or, more likely, a limited edition Titan X graphics card still based on the Pascal architecture - as if the Titan Xp wasn't limited and premium enough, naturally, but I digress.

The short teaser, posted by NVIDIA on its GeForce Facebook page under the "It's coming...a Collector's Edition" tagline, shows a distinguished-looking cooler shroud, which borrows design elements from the company's iconic Founders Edition graphics card, but with some added geometry and detail touches. The card will apparently incorporate RGB elements, seeing as the teaser shows both green and red colors. There's some speculation that this Collector's Edition Titan graphics card could be the first consumer graphics card to leverage GDDR6 memory, upping the ante from today's top of the technological crop, GDDR5X. Time - NVIDIA - will tell.

Another one Nvidia?

If this is still Pascal based titan, no thanks. I stick with my GTX 1080 TI :p

Even if volta the leap is properly not that big since as far i know its only a shrink from 16 NM to 12 NM and not that huge jump as Maxwell 28 NM to pascal 16 NM where. But i have before been wrong about that. Only time can tell.

And why shut Nvidia release volta as long AMD vega cant compete with pascal top GPU.

If this is a Titan Xp with RGB and a slightly better (but still not great cooler) for the standard Titan Xp price, then by hell they're revelling in their supremacy.

If they had any freaking man balls they'd make the special edition with a higher power target and voltage unlocked (to a reasonable level). But I think this is just a holiday season bank raid on 'not so poor' fools.

This is why Vega 64 failed so badly, it couldn't hit Nvidia's pricing tactics. Now in response we get x-mas lights on a Titan. Whoopty - friggin - doo.

Meh.

Atm my options are these:
1) coffee lake 8400/8600k/8700k+1070 notebook and underclocking for mobile use (heavy, but with backpack+laptop bag fine+useful for gaming upstairs) and a cheap, small and light laptop for stuff like word.

2) kabylake 7700hq+1070 notebook and pc (still expensive, but gets me a thin and light-ish notebook and a separate pc, handy for streaming).

3) pc+cheap notebook (hkc nt14 springs to mind).

1 is a terrible option, but still makes more sense than a pc with a Titan X collector's edition! XD

It's not. Nvidia clearly stated (after seeing Vega) bringing Vega to consumer space is too expensive atm. I think Q1'18 is also off the table.

Also, with the shortage of regular RAM still in effect, I don't see HBM becoming widespread enough for consumer Volta.

TSMC "12 nm" is not a node shrink, but a refinement of TSMC "16 nm".

Volta will arrive in the first half of next year.

Sounds legit. Then this titan cut be the first card with this improved shrink.

You do not want another Maxwell to Pascal transition. That was because TSMC failed to build fabs for 20nm (they built/retooled the fab, but yields were in the gutter), which left manufacturing at 28nm for like 3 generations of video cards, while TSMC rebuilt for 16nm instead.

A good rule of thumb, imho, is considering an upgrade every other generation (and even then you may decide not to), if buying in the same price segment.

Could be volta if it's a "collector's edition". Limited quantities and being a CE, people are more likley to butly it rather than wait for the 1080 ti's replacement, because it's "special".

Volta is already out, not in consumer space but out nonetheless...

So maybe it's full fat gp100, with Jensen's hand write signature and 10k$ price tag. Collectors edition does not sound product for masses.

The GPU equivalent of the 7980XE. They exist because of AMD not pushing hard enuff.

If it is a GV100 with full TPU performance, maybe.

If it is a Pascal
No thanks. I still remember the feeling when looking at my Titan X Pascal and Nvidia introduced Titan Xp

Uhm what? i9 7980XE exists only because of fierce competition from amd side. Without Threadripper intel most probably would not use HCC skylake X chips for consumer i9s. Thus highest would have been full LCC skylake X ten core i9 7900x.

I mean they exist because there's nothing like them in performance. They can charge whatever they want just because.

This is AMD's fault.
Because they can't keep competing nVidia will do whatever comes to mind. This is the first time we have so much titans.
Not so long ago, a Titan GPU was pretty exclusive, meaning that you could be sure if you have a Titan, nothing better would come at least for that generation. Now it's just one more product. AMD need not only to bring fury back, but this one HAVE to come as exclusive.
