Can we thread ban preemptively going into it?

Is this something I should do or were you guys going to start it? Personally, if the idea is to be entertained, it may be best if staff does it. This way it could reduce the amount of posts targeted at whoever the OP is in thinking they are all shook up over it or whatever the peanut gallery finds inside my head.

We are not allowed to do anything preemptive in our actions. I would suggest that you start it if you'd like, and feel free to report anything out of line. I have no issues thread banning those who do not want to help or doling out points/vacations to those who want to push boundaries. Honestly, and I could be wrong, but I don't think it matters who starts the thread, even W1zzard's threads get posts which are off topic and derailing

I get what you are saying, but uhh, I am a much more polarzing character here than the W1z. People love to take shots when they can (and rightfully so in some cases.. I am clearly no angel with my words).

I can totally see where EarthDog is coming from. I agree it could be tuned a little more.
The biggest thing that would help would be to remove likes from the Lounge, as this is purely a TECH website that has out of its generosity allowed there to be room for the lounge which in and of its self is not part of the TPU realm. I would think that at most after a certain number of likes from one person to a specific other person should notify an admin to see if it is being abused then that mod can act accordingly. but other than that I don't know what else would help. And yes people who look here for advise do looks at the likes as a form of validity.

Even if reports were to be created, there is little we can do as the ToS says nothing about abuse of the "thanks/like" systems. Also as W1zzard stated, he would have to write a custom script to limit, report, or remove the feature from "abusive" members. I do however like the idea of removing it from the Lounge, but I believe we run into the same issues there as well.

That's a step too far IMO (reporting posts and checking in on it)...a simple limit would accomplish all of that without the need for moderator interaction.

iirc the likes and posts from The Lounge weren't supposed to add onto anyone's total per @W1zzard when that section was opened- the forum software update may have changed this... not 100% sure?

if policing of likes is going to occur, wouldnt policing of Not likes have to occur as well? meaning, if effort is put into the giving of likes, then the same work must go into the lack of liking a post? IMO, this is a bad idea, its a scab that opens up WAY too many "what if's" when picked.

I think that they are adding a tag and or a quote to a previous post by editing post

Quick version: stricter formatting requirements for signatures would be a plus. also, a push to get more members into the community would be nice.


Long version:

Have to admit, this website has an insanely good layout and little features I love. Like, it auto edits me instead of double posting when I am too sleepy to realize. Just little things like that I have never experienced before, its not bloated like OCN is, very pleasant to the eyes.

Only issue with TPU imo is the community is a little too small for my tastes, I get the same 5-7 people in every conversation on almost any forum. OCN seems to be a little more diverse / bigger user base. Would be nice to see TPU have some more outreach, because the website is truly 10x better than any other forum I have ever used tech wise.

Only other issue I have is signatures, one guy in huge colored letters saying "Do not flash your BIOS" forget his name, but it hurts my eyes sometimes, like that the only other thing I like about OCN better, they have stricter rules on cussing, politics, and signature formatting. TPU is still the winner at the end of the day, because the new OCN website is absolute junk imo, same thing with Head-Fi after they re-did Head-Fi a few months ago, absolutely ruined everything. TPU not only improved, it has become the A+ example of how a forum should operate technically and graphically. (I also love how you make it so easy to insert links and rename them in the same window pane) just little touches like that I don't see elsewhere, lol.

Do you have a regular user account that you can test things with? It's just that as an admin, you may be able to see/access things that we can't if the permissions are set wrong, or some other forum glitch.
