ASUS surprised many when they showed off their closed loop liquid CPU coolers at Computex this year, in the form of the Ryuo and the even higher end Ryujin series. Today we see that the Ryuo 120 and Ryuo 240 have made their way on to pre-order pages at popular UK retailers including Overclockers UK. The Ryuo series is based off an Asetek AIO design, presumably Generation 6 as used by other Asetek clients including CORSAIR and EVGA, with either a 120 or 240 mm radiator. ASUS's attempt at differentiating these is by the addition of a 1.77" "LiveDash" full color OLED screen on the top of the CPU cooler block/pump unit, with a USB connector that will no doubt help configure the display and other cooler settings via a software driver. The OLED screen can thus be used to display system stats, cooler settings or, if you wish, even a GIF or a custom static image.

The other differentiation comes in the form of "ROG-designed fans" that claim efficient, instantaneous cooling. The ROG Ryuo 120 and Ryuo 240 are up for pre-order at £129.95 and £149.95 respectively, with the prices including UK VAT. For comparison, the CORSAIR H100i PRO and the NZXT Kraken X52 240 mm coolers currently cost £114.95 and £124.99 respectively from the same store. Both the ROG Ryuo series coolers support a wide variety of CPU sockets, including AM4, sTR4, LGA 115x, LGA 1366, LGA 2011(-3) and LGA 2066. No release date, nor pricing in other regions, is available at this point.

Can put all the "make up" on it that ya want but if it still has an aluminum radiator it's still going to be noisy and it's still going to create a galvanic corrosion cell.

It'd be nice to have a cpu temp reading on the pump through window or glass, though it'd have to be clearly visible.

weaboo - A negative term directed to anyone overly obsessed with Japanese culture to the point where they become annoying.Used frequently on the image boards of 4chan. Most weaboos are uneducated about their obsession of choice and are often noobs who are overly zealous, trying to impress others with their otaku knowledge.

What is this nonsense? Have Asus been taking pricing advice from Jensen?? No one in their right mind should be paying this for a standard AIO!

Sugoi desu ne!

Real talk... I like the Strix brand. I really like my Strix X370-F mobo. Their stuff just tends to have a look that I really enjoy, and generally the quality isn't bad, even if it's a little overpriced (though I wouldn't know as I got mine new-open-box for $120 :p) But these are still hard to justify. I don't see how these are anything but basic, bog-standard AIO's. Usually the Strix stuff is a step above the basic options out there. But for that money you could almost toss a little more towards a better designed case with quality fans and a good air cooler. Seems like more of a status thing with these coolers. Saddest thing is they don't even look that good :/

Seems like a lot of motherboard vendors are trying to sell you on a whole build with their parts... ...you buy everything from them. I think right now they only things you can't get Strix-branded are HDD's and RAM lol. I'm sure they're in the works. Strix is ASUS's attempt at selling you on an encapsulated solution. This AIO might not be worth it on its own, but there are people who will buy everything in the set just to have that theme going. It doesn't compete, but maybe it isn't supposed to. It's not for people who are only in the market for a CPU cooler. It's meant to be part of a package.

Seems dumb, but that's where we are at now... ...I think for the more casual builders with disposable income especially, they will likely pay more to have a complete set that looks nice and performs well enough. Saves them the trouble of having to really learn how to match components on their own. Smart choice on the part of motherboard vendors. By creating an easy mode, they get the cash of people who would otherwise find piecing together a build too daunting.

To me, it takes all of the fun out of the process. But for somebody who wants to build a PC just to say they did it... ...I dunno they'd probably buy this alongside all of the other Strix stuff, toss it all together, and call it a build. I see nothing wrong with that. Just not for me, and probably not for most of us here.

aside from the "weeb" names ASUS is trying too hard to sell their Asetek based coolers, Corsair & NZXT's offering are much more affordable, has better software integration & has way more features other than their RGB LED flair. With Corsair's Hydro H100 PRO RGB being the more affordable 240mm AIO kit money can buy, ASUS just lost the cooler market again.

Am I the only one who hates these ugly round pumps? Everything in case is rectangular shaped and then this thing sticks out like a sore thumb being round. Also, mounting these is a bit annoying.

And it just looks so generic like they'd take stock Asetek and slammed their branding on it. Corsair, NZXT and even BeQuiet offer much better AiO's, first two in department of performance and third one in silence and materials as it also has copper radiator, ensuring no galvanic issues. Not sure for Corsair or NZXT if they use aluminium or copper radiators...

@RejZoR dun worry. you're not the only one who has a particular taste in designs. Most if not all Asetek rebranded AIOs have the circular block IMO. For their copper block + aluminium radiator mix, Asetek or those who uses those combo made sure the coolant has corrosion inhibitors. Dunno how true is that, but so far my currently using AIO kit still running fine.

I've replaced coolant in my CM Nepton 120XL after 2-3 years and it was perfectly clear, no signs of any gunk or debris in the liquid. I have no clue if radiator is aluminium or not, but I think it is since it was very light without liquid. I've used EK's CryoFuel to refill it.

for my H55, it's probably in it's 4th year since purchase. Moving up to the H60 (2018) model since it's about MYR10 more over the decent but now aged H55 kit.

Even if you put an NZXT Kraken next to this... then you pay 20 bucks more and you get 240 or even 280mm rad with +1 fan, you get a more silent pump and a much cooler LED with mirror thingy on top.

Why on earth one would even consider this piece of garbage is beyond me. Let alone why Asus would release it given what's already available. Is their ROG junk really such a cool name/brand? I don't get it.

There are two ways of doing things. Riding the wave of your successful brand and milking users or building a quality product to continue the legacy of the brand. ASUS could easily create a custom AiO and become a killer AiO brand, but they've decided to just use stock one and slam their brand on it. Which is a shame because I generally always had good experience with ASUS. But this one is just lazy.

Now reading more into details not mentioned in this short PR version, the fan is integrated into pump and it blows at VRM heatsinks, cooling them down and also worth mentioning, ASUS didn't just stick any fans on it, it's using Noctua industrial fans. Now, that's a bit different situation, because I haven't seen an AiO with fan integrated into the pump. Cryorig had one with external fan which looked really weird. And the fact that many vendors stick rather crappy fans on top. I remember seeing Sleeve Bearing fans on some which is just terrible...

This Japanese fiction-inspired names are incredibly weaboo, just reading them hurts almost physically.

Everything they say is gibberish.. even when it's in English. "In Search of Incredible". "Rock Solid. Heart Touching." "Inspiring Innovation. Persistent Perfection."

I'm not even sure "Republic of Gamers" is all that sensible. But at least it's constructed normally. And why the hell name themselves after "Strix"? It's like someone just picked an obscure word from the dictionary. Like Kim Jo Un's "Dotard".

edit: So yeah, I refuse to purchase anything from them simply because of this.
