The drama surrounding Metro Exodus continues unabated. Deep Silver which has ownership over the IP, was the one that decided to pull Metro Exodus from Steam in favor of a 1-year timed exclusivity deal on the Epic Games Store. If you've been following the drama thus far this is all public information. Furthermore, it was speculated that this move was made at the very last minute considering other retailers were originally advertising preorders as being Steam keys for quite some time right up until the news of the digital platform switch broke. Lending more credence to the fact this was a disruptive switch at the last minute is the physical packaging which was not altered for the game's launch and instead has a sticker covering the Steam logo. Truly for such an outstanding game, the mess of its launch should be remembered as a great example of how not to release a game.

I do hope it fails, nothing against moving to another platform but please if it says it will be released on steam then let it be, if not then never say it will be on steam. As an example, simcity 2013, never said it would be released on steam, imagine it was said it would be on steam and in the middle of it , suddenly, management says it will not be. Do not expect compassion.

It's a timed exclusive so it will be on Steam in a year. Deep Silver probably didn't want to change all of the cases or didn't have time too when the decision was reached.

I have to wonder if there are some physical copies without the sticker and has a valid steam code.

How many PC game launchers are there now? I would think that keeping the storefront up and maintained wouldn’t be worth it, but it looks like we’re heading back to the good ol’ days of 20+ taskbar tray icons.

That’s BS... this is honestly the stupidest argument regarding gaming platforms. Like it will take me a second to choose a game between different platforms, it’s not going to rock my world you know? And only because of some first first world country non-problems there should be a single platform?? Do you know how competition works and that competition is the best thing especially for an industry like gaming? You want Steam
to command the whole industry?

Uplay is great I think, I used to hate Ubisoft when they had 3 machine DRM, but they learned their lesson and moved on from those days. So hey progress is progress I guess.

Let’s not fly off the handle here. But yes, I don’t like everyone having their own service. And does it really increase competition, or just fragment the industry with varying levels of support? Let’s take the MS store as an example, as it’s the only place to get Forza this side of an Xbox. Their AppStore experience is terrible. Many complain of loading issues, and every graphics driver update resets your in-game video settings due to the way UWP apps are delivered. Then there’s the question of how secure your customer data is. More stores, more risk, and let’s not pretend all companies treat security the same. Lastly, this is digital distribution. When these stores die by attrition (and they will), what happens with your purchase. I’m not a huge Steam advocate, but their longevity has been taken for granted. Just like music services have come and gone, I highly doubt all these stores will last.

I would love the competition that would benefit the end users. But this is not the case here.

The reason why Metro Exodus is on Epic's platform? Moar money for the developer. The game's price did not budge as compared to usual steam prices. Here goes everyone's dream.

I would love the competition if it was as follows: cheaper on Epic platform, more expensive on steam. They would profit the same from both platforms, but sales would improve thanks to favorable pricing on Epic, and they would maintain the steam's playerbase at the same time. Win-win for both developer and the gamers. Right?

But no. The developers want to be the only ones profiting from the situation. Gamers? Screw gamers as long as they get more monies.

How is this competition when we have no choice of where to buy our games? Exclusiveness is NOT how competition works. Epic bullied their way to a monopoly to sell Metro Exodus.

If every game would release on EVERY storefront, now that would be competition. This is not it.

You seem to have no clue of what real competition is.

Man I am sorry but that just is stupid. The funny thing is my immediate reaction was "Who cares, Steam isn't that great," but this is really turning full-on stupid. It's like one of those situations where you know you were "right" before everyone learned the majority of the info, but once the full info was out you had to admit the "other side" is more right.

EPIC game store requires "Always Online," they pulled this at the last second from Steam, and this game is also (as usual) buggy at launch. I can wait a year - even if I didn't for Last Light. Their mistake...

They might have a deal with nVidia to release the game within a certain time frame.
After all they need games to promote RTX.

Well the problem also is I just don't need more games right now too - so if one game I might want screws something up... too bad. I am busy playing ACO and BFV, and I still need to play through the rest of God of War. After that I have Doom 2016 and The Last Guardian.

After ALL OF THAT, I want RE2 for sure. This is a joke lol - too many games.

Not the most interesing news of history, right?

And btw, Epic store opened this very december, and needed a blockbuster to enter like a Holywood star to the scene, which they accomplished :)
