The 9.75 TFLOPs figure in the leaked specifications slide of the Radeon RX 5700 XT "Navi" graphics card from earlier today got many guessing if AMD is essentially putting RX Vega-level performance into a GPU that sips a fraction of its power. It turns out that AMD's claim of the RX 5700 XT being faster than the GeForce RTX 2070 wasn't just specific to the odd super-optimized game title, but a whole selection of games, many of which some with GameWorks varnish, some of which even support NVIDIA RTX.

AMD's [leaked] performance slide for the Radeon RX 5700 XT sees the card beat the RTX 2070 in "Assassin's Creed: Odyssey," "Battlefield V," "CoD: Black Ops 4," "Far Cry: New Dawn," "Metro Exodus," Tom Clancy's "The Division 2," "The Witcher 3," and Tom Clancy's "Ghost Recon: Wildlands." The card is also striking distance behind the RTX 2070 at "Shadow of the Tomb Raider," and Sid Meier's "Civilisation 6." All games in this slide are tested at 1440p resolution, with in-game settings maxed out (although we're waiting to read the Endnotes on whether "max out" in NVIDIA's context means turning on RTX on some of these games). The RX 5070 XT beats the RTX 2070 by as much as 22 percent in "Battlefield V," and 15 percent in "Metro Exodus," and is claimed to be within single-digit percentage ahead of the RTX 2070. There's another picture of the RX 5070 XT reference board in this slide, and unless we're mistaken, we spy two 8-pin PCIe power connectors. We'll learn more about this card in a few hours from now.

Good. Good - it beats the 2070, mostly. How much is it?

Notably, we can all wait for TPU review, plus other sites for a more balanced view. If AMD price it well, perhaps the great GPU price escalation can be negated. If they don't price it aggressively, well, who cares if it beats the 3rd tier RTX card? And Super might well just poop the red party. You know, just because, they can. Unfortunately.

Nice. If it's priced right and even comes with a decent game bundle, nvidia will be in trouble along with Intel.

Blower. We need to get rid of blower, even nvidia did.

I expect RX 5700 XT to be partner-driven. I doubt anyone will launch the reference design.

Not bad, W1zz found the Radeon VII to be an average of just 6% faster than a RTX 2070, so good news for competition... bad news for Radeon VII owners.

not really,2070 was already available at $500 when VII launched.buying RVII was never about value.

They're loud, and I've never seen one that's got idle fan-off.
If they manage to keep RX5700 close to 200W of power consumption, even the reference one will not have problem to keep it below 75C without much noise, since the Vega 56 did the same already.

Very true, just interesting to see how it might compare to AMD's current $699 top dog.

I always had blower cards and can't hear them over other systems fans, even under load.

this is gonna match 2070 at higher tdp and same price I'm pretty sure, but already you can see much more consistency across all games.
I have no horse in this race since I'll be buying 7nm EUV nvidia but it's already exciting to see amd taking the step in the right direction with navi.

I had 1080 FE for 5 months and the memory of it haunts me at night.

Do not believe amd slides just yet, wait for reviews, radeon vii showed amazinly on amd slides. If amd says the 5700 xt beats the 2070 by 10%, expects a draw or losing 0 to 5%.

Blower-style cards assuming they are done right have their place. GTX 1080 was inaudible in my Define R5 and I used to run a pair of 970s in sli in an Antec Sonata II with a 4790k. I do not think that case with the quiet fans would have handled the heat output without the cards being blower-style models.

Loudest thing on that system was the PSU as the Sonata II had the top mounted PSU with the intake on top of the case. I ran that build on a Seasonic M12II 620 and when the GPUs were really pulling that PSU fan got rather loud. Always stable though, never had any load related crashes.

Lack of idle fan-off has been a sore spot though...

yeah but they downclock pretty aggresively to keep that fixed 50% fan speed

The VII was a joke, its a compute card probably still in the pipeline from mining or hopes it would find its niche, a solution in search of a problem.

Well... My Radeon VII will sell for more than a 5700 will cost, so that's fine by me! XD Will wait for reviews and then see what I want to do.

Why are people all about idle fan off? Starting and stopping a motor creates excessive wear from torque.

From the chart, we are talking about Radeon VII performance for much less money and power consumption, so the Navi arch is indeed different and improved from the Vega one. Many were in haste on false predictions in the previous weeks. Let's see if the chart from the leaked slides are valid.

this is cool and all... but really would have made more of an impact if this came out last year. barely better than a 2070 isn't going to convince the throng of buyers who already bought their 2070 cards. if amd can made their product cycle closer to nv releases, there would be a lot more competition. otherwise this staggered approach... whether intentional or not, is kind of between the 2070 and the nv refresh cards rumored to come out.

Because people care more about silence at idle than care about the immeasurable (because it hasnt been measured..:p ) difference due to the stresses of fan starts and stops instead of constantly running.

Many more details from videocardz.com. The main readon for the big increase in performance for the same compute power as the Vega 56 is the doubling on the ROPS vs the RX590. The cut RX5700 one will be almost 25% slower than the full one, almost tied to Vega 64 performance for 56% of its cores. Big change in IPC (instactions per core) indeed with Navi. Finally a gaming specific GPU to chase nVidia down. Maybe the big Navi will get to the top of the consumper GPUs in 2020? Let's see...
