This will now be the 3rd MX-518. There was the original, of which I still have a fully functional (but worn on the sides) but now retired one. Then came the G400S, which was the EXACT same shape but with an updated sensor. I still have one of those as well, in great shape but retired.

Those omron D2FC-7N-20M switches are in almost every mouse and they suck. Sorry, they do. I have had 3 mice that had double click problems after warranty expired. All of them had those switches. I desoldered some from other mice and replace them. But the are not reliable. I dont think the original MX518 had those, because i have never seen them working for 8-10 years straight. But the MX518 does work for 10 or more years without a problem. Its this, or either the quality from Omron seems to be going down as years are passing by.

That's true, I have G500 and then G500s both of them have (omron D2FC-7N-20M) start double or miss click after 1.5 year , I replaced those clicks with Japanese Omron switches (D2F-01F) and they are still good as new new after so many years.

If we want gaming peripheral companies to start including better switches then (omron D2FC-7N-20M) should be treated as a negative.

The main issue with this original mouse was the weight and small left side buttons. Logitech missed an opportunity here - they could have made it it wireless using the g pro battery and made it a winner.

Does this mouse have hyper scroll? Or whatever Logitech is calling it today? The dual clutch scroll wheel? It might also be called free scroll, they keep changing the name of it I think.
It looks like there might be a button for it (that one button in the front of the scroll wheel) But I didn't see mention of it in the scroll wheel section of the review.

This one has exact same shape iirc, and much better internals for sure.

Not gonna happen (at least not soon) imo, the G502 is its direct successor.

Nope, it's just a plain ol' scroller.

They don't, Logitech's switch debouncing method on the other hand leaves something to be desired. I'll talk about this in a more detailed fashion in an upcoming review.

literally ran this mouse for years until it finally was so worn I stopped using it, still worked but the feet and surfaces were just so worn out i set it aside. still have it still works

Would've been great if you'd done a side-by-side comparison with an original MX518. I still have mine and it still works 100%!

Had two MX518, 2005 models, both from Microcenter , updated to G502 and G413 last year ,Microcenter as well.

The texture on the palm surface is annoying to me, on the MX518 - with sweaty hands it gets slippery, whereas the G5 was a little more rough.
And then the thumb button, one on the G5, two on the MX518 - I am not a fan of all these buttons.
But it is of cause, just personal preferences

The fact that Logitech has resurrected this mouse from the era of PC gaming that I am most fond of makes me so happy.

I was tossing up between this mouse and the HyperX Pulsefire FPS Pro to replace my DeathAdder 2013 on my main rig. I was always an IntelliMouse guy, hence the Deathadder. Thus I ultimately went with the familiarity of the Pulsefire as my replacement and I couldn't be happier.

I still wouldn't mind picking up one of these though at some point just for the awesomeness of its existence.

Its possible to make any mouse wireless if needed, there is guy on www.reddit.com/r/MouseReview which does that (just search for it). He makes custom wireless out of everything.

I dont care, for me its just making custom paracord cable and who cares about wireless. Especially if you have mouse bungie.

Could buy this one, my fingers on right hand are shaped way they are due growing on its long distant relative, MX500.

Otherwise, it could probably use some diet.. 100g? Ehm, quite a bit today.
