Supporting developers does not happen through a pre-order. Funding for a project is always secured (even with kickstarters!) long before a project is finished.
For big publisher/developer houses maybe. Not necessarily for indie devs.

I'm too eager to retire my i5-4570, and saving some measly 50 euros by delaying the purchase for who knows how many months is hardly worth it for me.

No? Where did you get that info then? Spoke to them? You go ahead and point me to ONE dev studio that decides on the scope of his project while funds are still uncertain.

I know there's one ;) What state was that game in, again? Oh yeah...

That should tell you enough. Even indie devs have a scope and a project that is clearly defined before they start work and secure the necessary funds. It is that scope and plan that they present and secure the funding with. And note - EVEN Roberts had a roadmap, a scope and a project plan to secure his funding and the investors - both crowdfunding and corporate - but decided to 'keep adding stretch goals'.

Anyway. Ryzen :D

I didn't say wait months. The extreme prices are usually gone within days or weeks, and often it's not every store who keeps doing it.

If you're buying a new motherboard, you should be waiting for good reviews anyway.

AMD just released video that Ryzen 3000 can auto-overclock to the limits of the motherboard it's matched to.

"Precision Boost Overdrive with Auto-Overclock"

Wow. This generation will demolish everything in it's path !
I sad month ago that AMD will use new PBO that will boost the max boost clocks, So happy to be right :).
Did you noticed that with this new 1 click auto PBO OCing in-chip AMD just made the ~1.5GB Intel® Performance Maximizer to be laughable? OMG LOL!.

So there's never been game developers going bankrupt before they've shipped their product?
Oh, here's your link

Perhaps. Or they might decide not to slash the prices at all.

If you pair the CPU with a beefy AIO you'll see some nice single-core boosts up to around 4.7Ghz or 4.8Ghz dsre I say, if you're lucky.

An encouraging thought. Pre ordering from a dev that may go bankrupt, so we better support them enough or else :D

However that is still a little bit different isn't it. An early access and a pre order aren't the same - more often than not, Early access also presents a discount while pre orders do not. Early access also doesn't guarantee the full scope of the game yet. You could say early access is a kickstarter / crowdfunding much more than a pre order. A pre order is effectively a sale agreement - a contract - while EA is not.

Early access also does not apply for refunds. Its money gone -an investment, like crowdfunding, that may or may not return a game/product.

Devil's in the details.

I've been doing all CPU reviews since a while. Got a ton of new benchmarks this time

Sweet!

Any potential machine learning or similar productivity benchmark suite built in this time?

Amazon does same day Sunday shipping, I did an order yesterday and received it .

So actual day I can purchase and install this is the 7th? I may be picking up a setup for another rig in my house.

Unless things have changed, same day and Sunday shipping are in limited areas only.

No, what actually accomplishes is to open up the idea of overclocking to a wider audience. People who usually don't do this because they are not knowledgeable enough to tinker with settings in the bios and test and so on.
Real overclockers will still do manual overclocking to test the limits of their builds, but the novices will certainly like having "1-button-push" increase in performance (something that you don't exactly get in any other CPU before Zen 2)

Hi Bob, unfortunately it would seem AMD showed off the 5GHz parts to the motherboard makers, as I guess they expected it to leak, to help build the hype train, then they decided to launch something entirely different. I can only base my comments here on information I have at hand. There very much was a 5GHz part making the rounds in Taipei, but you can chose to believe that or not.

Maybe the 5Ghz is saved for 50th Anniversary? IMO 5.0GHZ looks like 50 :).
Also IMO the Ryzen 9 3950X will launch at 9/9 = Monday as the 9 is for Ryzen 9.

I thought he only reviews graphics cards and SSDs...
He’s done a pretty good number of CPU reviews. I stopped counting after the last 24 processor reviews.

braaaaaaaa.....its boost, really, not overclocking. ;)

Overclocking, to me, implies, manual work and goes beyond boost from the factory. The difference here is simply the motherboard. Some who use this feature wont do a thing if the mobo isnt up to the task.

Call me an overclocking purist. :p

Actually, it is the very definition of overclocking. Running hardware at a higher clock rate than what was advertised and guaranteed by the manufacturer. Whether you do it by clicking one button, or by setting a single setting in the bios or go all the way and tweak voltages doesn't matter. It is still overclocking.

Is it? Is turbo and boost overclocking (both companies list that rating)? It literally takes 2 more variables to add to its boost algo's it seems. Correct me if I am wrong. This does seem to take it a bit beyond, but again, its a boost algo with more variables. I don't call that (manually) overclocking.

That doesn't take away from anything I said, however. It still makes it dudsville for the overclocker if it takes it to the limit automatically. Great for noobs though. Yipee.

You just contradicted yourself and made his point for him at the same time. Boost clocks are set at the factory and are thus factory settings. Anything over that would be overclocking. Boost clocks are not overclocking.
