gigabyte without backplate

i found good priced 1080ti, but have no backplate, ive used similiar old card like this before, just doubt it is worth to buy hungry monster with no backplate, what doyou think guys?, anyway it cost $300+, local warrant expire on 2020 month 5

What does not having a backplate matter so much? They are 90%% cosmetic most of the time. I think they actually trap heat that comes from the back of the card that would naturally dissipate

its gogabyte triple fans, body colour white, i tho it was fake before, pretty strange for a 1080ti not having backplate hehe

Additional structural support instead of just the PCIe lock on the slot.

Of course if you have one of those support poles that prevents sagging then not a big deal breaker.

They could provide some extra rigidity Ito an extent but as you also noted the majority of the weight is coming from the bottom. We went without them on our cards without issue until the last 4-5. generations where they became popular.

I have the same card - the cooler is crap. I recommend mounting a Arctic Cooling Accelero Xtreme III - also make sure you buy a lot of those small heatsinks for RAM chips and thermal adhesive, youre gonna need to stick them on the VRMs if you replace the cooler.

fuq i miss this checked up, i seen tech db it can run 82c+ full load, and powerdraw hit 340watt+, dammit i cant cancel the order till either failure or alr runout the estimate date, i hope my pc can handle it

oh i see we can just used non oc mode to get better temp&power draw

At the cost of performance though. my card boosts up to just under 2000mhz. The stock boost is only 1657mhz so youre missing a sizable chunk of free performance with sticking with the stock cooler.

Even if you set a custom fan curve. at 40% the fan is more than CLEARLY audible so this card is also quite loud and this gets worse if you try to OC it. It will sound like a jet engine if you try to keep it at 60-65'c because 1080Ti's start to 'throttle' above 60'c so you wont be able to hit your best boost clocks.

The heatsink is just bad. There isnt enough surface area to cool both the GPU and the VRM/Mosfets at the same time and the heatpipe layout is poor.

If you bought your 1080Ti cheap - I highly recommend you spend any money you saved on a better cooler. Raijintek Morpheus is also a very good cooler too.

You guys are mostly right about cosmetic, except in the case of EVGA boards. Their backplates have thermal pads in the hot spots and are actually part of the cooling solution.

They do also help with keeping the end of the pcb from bending on the heavier models.

Mostly you guys are correct though, its alot cosmetic.

Clearly that card can run without one. You've put too much stock into the function and ability for a simple backplate.

this raijin morpeus 2 core cost $150, i cant found cheaper model, well guess i will happy just with stock clock, beside i only running fullhd gameplay, i recently learn how to undervolt, it should help get stable gameplay hehe

You'll need small heatsinks like this

You'll need enough for your ram and also the VRMs.

You'll also need good thermal adhesive like Arctic Silver Alumina ADHESIVE Thermal Paste. Thermal tape just doesnt provide enough hold and the Mosfets/VRMs get really toasty and tape generally doesnt do too well with extreme temperatures.

Teehee yeah, maybe now they do... I remember very much how 1070 and 1080 FTW didn't and had problems because of it.

Also - the IV comes with a backplate - You dont need it. I originally installed it on mine but the thermal pads they supply are super super thick and warp the card when you have all the clips attached that holds the backplate in place.

Not only that though. because the backplate is pretty tall. you might have some clearance issues with your motherboards chipset heatsink. I had the same issue with my Current Asus Z370-F board.

Ive been helping @purplekaycee with the same card as well and i made the same suggestions to him as i have to you.

uninstall all drivers
reset cmos
switch pcie slot 2nd
force turn off igpu, and used peg external only
cant used different port, i only have hdmi
swap x4 different gpu, 980/480/580/56
all is work except this, i think the card failure somehow

when you say you reset Cmos - did you unplug the power and take out the battery for a 1min?

If you did this and it still didnt work - I would send it back
