Alright everyone so i know this is a super weird question but am curious to know abt it..

Am building a PC with the following specs-
R5 3500
MSI B450 PRO VDH MAX
XPG 8GB 2800MHz RAM
CM 550W
GPU am gonna purchase 1060/580

I got an Asus Strix Z270E Mobo lying around and i wonder is it possible to replace the stock heatsinks on the MSI board with the Z270E one?
I measured the placement of screws and its the same so it wont be an issue attaching them on the board?
**This is just experimental and i dont intend to do it until and unless it actually gives a major bump to cooling**(I feel Z270E got better quality heatsinks than my MSI board!)
Thanks and regards.

Worst case scenario the metal from the heatsink touches something it shouldn't and it kills your mobo best case you get better temps..........

Dont know, wont know till you try.

boards are differently designed, VRMs are also different so there might be clearance issues with some of the caps being too close or sitting too high for the z270E heatsink.

In any case. why are you scavenging heatsinks off a working board?

its still a budget board though. So even if you did manage to swap the heatsinks. It still might not make a whole lot of difference because the VRMs were trash to begin with

::EDIT::

Like for instance....

If you put some small heatsinks where i circled in red, this would probably help a small bit if you were going to squeeze as much speed out of what you got.

Id recommend using thermal adhesive instead of thermal tape though because thermal tape doesnt like really high temperatures and will eventually lose its grip and the heatsink will fall off. The down side to this is kiss your warranty goodbye. Once those heatsinks are stuck on, they will be there until the board gets thrown into landfill.

But if youre going to be spending money anyway - just buy a better board rather than messing about swapping out heatsinks

What if i place this extra heatsink of Asus over the one on Msi?
PS-The Asus z270e is a dead board and is of no good!

How are you going to mount it though? tack weld? solder it on?

I doubt it would be worth the effort. Both surfaces of the heatink would need to be flat for the best thermal conductivity. and you wont get that if youre gonna be stacking the Asus heatsink ontop of the MSI one.

Just spend the extra money to get a better board.

Thats worth a thought!!
Its tedious and also tough for a non techie like me to undergo all this hassle.
Anyways Thanks everyone for your valuable suggestions.
Not gonna mess up the working mobo now..lolz!!

It's not hard to remove the VRM heatsinks, once off you can accurately measure them to see if it will fit.
Worst case is you put the original one back on.
