Ashes of the Singularity (AotS) Benchmark numbers for the upcoming GeForce RTX 3070 graphics card surfaced, strengthening NVIDIA's performance claims for the card being "faster" than the previous generation flagship, the RTX 2080 Ti. According to the benchmark numbers dug out by _rogame and compiled by VideoCardz, the RTX 3070 ends up being 1% faster than the RTX 2080 Ti at 1080p with the "Crazy" preset. This lead extends to 2.3% at 1440p, albeit with a custom preset of which details aren't known.

At 4K UHD with the "Crazy" preset, however, the RTX 3070 ends up about 2.4% slower than the RTX 2080 Ti. These numbers suggest that the RTX 3070 should still be a formidable 4K UHD gaming option, with moderate RTX effects. It should allow you to game at 1440p with RTX maxed out; and should enable 1080p high refresh-rate AAA gaming; but for those seeking 4K UHD with RTX maxed out, the RTX 3080 should be the one to buy. Then again, AMD's Radeon RX 6000 series is just around the corner, and could take a swing at this segment, with a full DirectX 12 Ultimate feature-set, and plenty of muscle.

This alongside the prospective 3070 Ti will be the primary competition for AMD. The Navi 21 XTX will fall roughly short of the 3080 and the 72CU/64CU variants will do battle with these two cards.

If you will be able to buy the card. 3080 and 3090 are expected in 2021 as of nowadays information. Maybe NV can at least give the 3070.

For 800$ it's not good at all, it's even worse than the 2070s (which was between 500-600$). Ampere's a disaster, very high MSRP, no availability so even higher prices, low vram.
Hopefully AMD will deliver a true performance uplift with reasonable prices.

In W1zzard's benchmarking suite, I predict the 3070 will be 2-5% slower than the 2080 Ti on average. It's overpriced as 8GB memory is gimped, try playing DOOM Eternal with nightmare quality texture preset and see your FPS butchered.

Can't wait for this card to come out so I'm not able to find it anywhere, and prices rise well above $500 because of that. Just like 3080. It was listed below €700 for cheapest models here in EU, and now the cheapest model is €800+. And still impossible to buy.

I've played doom eternal on my GTX 1080 @ 4K and while the ultra nightmare texture pool size has a negative impact on performance, it does absolutely nothing to the quailty of the textures.
Texture quality isn't any different on ultra/high settings.
It just allocates more VRAM for texture streaming, and there is no practical benefit to it.
There are a ton of games with more environmental/texture detail than doom and run just fine on an 8GB card at 4K, not to mention the 3070 was never intended nor marketed as a 4K card to begin with.

That was Nvidia's scam - reveal what appear to be good prices, but have no stock so they're not taking a hit on their margins per unit sold...no stock causes pent up demand and apparent buying frenzy, which leads to more demand but still no stock.

My point was that 8GB is a limiting factor. Doom is a game built around last gen consoles, let's be honest. Within the next 12 months, because of the next gen of consoles, I am sure there will be games on PC that push graphics cards much harder, and look much better to boot. We saw with the UE5 demo that PS5 is capable of pushing 8K textures (by streaming assets in from SSD). To do similarly on PC we're looking at a brute force approach, which will require more than 8GB of memory to say the least.

As is the case with RTX 2070/Super and GTX 1070, the 3070 is also going to be a super popular GPU for midrange buyers and I doubt games will need more than 8GB at 1440p anytime soon, there might be exceptions to it but generally speaking developers target these kind of midrange cards in the optimization process.

I agree. The RTX 3070 should be firmly a 1440p card, and perhaps at most as an entry level 4K card. Anyway I am waiting to see how it performs because I am still unconvinced that it will beat the RTX 2080 Ti soundly. It should only outperform the RTX 2080 Ti marginally, and in some game titles only.

While the next gen consoles are powerful and about to be released, I don't believe that games will get super GPU intensive or VRAM heavy as a result. Correct me if I am wrong, but most gamers are still gaming on PC. And if so, game developers will still have to optimize games for limited VRAM on PCs. The next gen consoles also have 16GB of GDDR6 memory, but these are being shared by the system and not just for the GPU.

AMD will come out with a card thats single digit performance difference while being $100+ lower price.
Nvidia cant price newer mid-cards(below x80) less than top end(ti+) previous gen cards. its against their marketing rules.

When the performance of this card leaked long ago, people who are gullible enough to believe anything Nvidia tells them, were still saying 3070 will be much faster than 2080 ti.

Here's an excerpt of something one of these "people" wrote to me over PM. Parts are redacted for obvious reasons:

"You f*****g dip***t delusional c**t. They said it's faster, PERIOD. Only a f**kt**d like yourself would make up stories in his head how it's just marketing. If you think it's BS then how the f**k do you know exactly the % of how faster it will be or not. Do you have magic globe of s**t ? C**ksucking f*g."

I only said it will probably be as fast or maybe just a few % faster than 2080 ti. Turns out it's even slower or trades blows, just like all the leaks and common sense would dictate.

Enough said on the brain damage Nvidia induces in some people....

As expected. Basically neither 3080 nor 3070 is as good as NV have claimed in their presentation slides during the launch.

The amount of vram is also on the lower end considering how fast the vram requirement is growing with the latest games. If I were in the market for a new card, I'd take this current shortage as an opportunity to wait for the 16GB and 20GB variants of the 3070 and 3080 (they would probably be dubbed as SUPER or Ti).

Once you're proven correct you should write back to that clown and rub it in his face then block him after. People are so gullible and delusional these days.

You should see a couple of PM's from delusional AMD users I've received over the years... it's a two way street, fanboyism/lunacy. My ignore list is LONG with fanboys from both sides... makes for a better forum since the toxic fanboys aren't handled by the staff (see below). :p

It is hard to talk about products that will not be available to purchase.
ON the contrary.. it's easy to talk about them... difficult to buy. ;)

At 4K, sure... otherwise, no. The results in that review show no change at 1440p and 1080p resolutions.

With driver optimization and maturity , will get better results.
With a few exceptions, performance gains usually flattens out within a month or two.
What you see on launch day is probably pretty accurate.

If 8 GB is a problem, the Wizz will easily be able to spot it. Running out of VRAM will cause terrible stutter, not just cause a minor performance degradation.

I'm not saying there aren't delusional people on both sides. But in this case it's very easy to see that Nvidia doesn't need to jump this high to make people buy, let's just be clear. Making a 3070 significantly faster than 2080 ti for $500 would make no business sense for them. Nvidia is a business, just like AMD. I just feel like Nvidia's marketing is often their biggest problem. Or the people who believe it.
