So I updated to 20h2 (took 10+mins) when it logged me back in to windows, Edge had reinstalled and lost all my saved passwords, i shat my pants!
Had a nosey online and seems to be a problem, not only that when i put in a known password it didn't save it!
I've rolled back to my previous build(2004) and all is good, passwords are saved no need to relogin....phew that would have been a nightmare!!!

Just a heads up incase your going to install!

As for me, I use LogMeIn's Last Pass. I think it's the most famous & used one out there. But there are dozens out there that should do just as well.

Keepass for windows and LastPass for browsers. Lastpass is better for integration of the browser, while Keepass is more secure in windows.

Personally in Windows 10 version 2004 and 20H2 I haven't had this issue on my personal rig, laptop or work computer but I have customers that have this issue.

I believe last week it was I read a report this issue was discovered and reported back on a insider version of 1909 but it was fixed before 1909 rolled out so what's wrong I am not sure.

But for security a password manager is a good choice I personally use 1Password.

Well, they ripped out the guts of Edge and replaced it. But yes, you'd think they'd integrate with Windows Credential Manager better.

Problem with face-id and touch-id is that a government can force you to unlock your device but with a password they can't.

Yup, trust your passwords to the company that made the fapenning happen. (Yes, I know, it's not like you have a choice once you got an iPhone.)

Password management is tricky. If you want convenience (and that includes sync across devices), you need to send the passwords over the net. Fingerprints are not that great (you leave them everywhere), face recognition doesn't seem to be up to the task just yet. So yeah, pick your poison.

Edit: I'm using keepassx with a hard 3 months expiration for passwords that matter. If I can't use that, I just set a random password, knowing in advance I'll just have to reset it next time I log in.

Hi,
Not sure I know what you're talking about everything is made in China if that is where you were going wonder where you keypassware is created lol Russia/...
I don't use an apple id all the time just to get basic apps on setup and sure don't sync with apple cloud features either then log out.

Well keepassx doesn't send data anywhere (or if it does, I'm not using that functionality). Plus, it's open source, it's harder to sneak backdoors in there ;)

I updated to 20H2 a few weeks ago and so far so good. I think it's better than 2004, which was a nightmare when it first came out. I still haven't tested to see if using sleep which caused random crashing on my rig with 2004 has been fixed.

Well keepassx doesn't send data anywhere (or if it does, I'm not using that functionality). Plus, it's open source, it's harder to sneak backdoors in there ;)
Hi,
Keep thinking that if it makes you sleep better at night.

Hi,
Keep thinking that if it makes you sleep better at night.
Keepass does not "send" anything, its will only check for updates, if you let it.

Lesson learned is to use a password manager.
^^^THIS^^^ I never let my browsers store my passwords. Besides a dozen or so security reasons, there are times I call up one of my alternative browsers. Then what?
Or as i do save passwords to a csv
Unless you encrypt that csv file, I sure would not trust that either. What happens if a bad guy breaks into your home and steals your computer? Or a nosey whizkid neighbor, or your wife's nephew sits down at your computer when you are away?

I use an older version of SplashID. I started using SplashID when I got my first PalmPilot PDA over 20 years ago. It came with a Windows component to "Hotsync" with so you always had a backup of the encrypted password database. I retired my last Palm PDA some years ago but I am still using the "SplashID Desktop" to manage all my passwords, credit cards, bank accounts, software licensing keys, kid's social security numbers, etc.

Mine has a lifetime license. I don't think I would recommend it today as the current version requires an annual renewal fee and Homey don't play dat. An annual renewal fee is just another bill and I don't support that type software licensing scam... err... scheme... err... plan. I go for one-time, or free.

If looking for a simple, basic, but very effective password safe, I recommend old, tried and trued but still excellent, Password Safe.

but you dont expect to loose all passwords on a update
Ah, but you always should expect to lose everything (or at least plan for it) on any update. If you Google lost passwords with [fill in browser name] you will see this is not exclusive to Edge. It happens a lot which is why most browsers let you "sync" your user data (including passwords) with other devices. That typically involves "the Cloud" and no way will I store my password database out there. I do not fear it will be lost. No - there likely will be dozens or even 100s of copies distributed globally in no time - just sitting there waiting to be hacked.

Well Mr Bright your a super happy soul aren't you! Just FYI no one will break into my house , i would explain but im sure you will pick holes in that, no one uses my computer except me, but again im sure you will find some obscure answer for this as well, im happy with my security which is what i think your implying.
I am well aware of the many security issues which you mention, im also a well versed computer engineer who has studied and worked in the UK and Spain ( for well over 30 years now)
Each to there own, as i mentioned this was just a " heads up " as to what happened to me when i did an update from 2004 to 20h2.
Please dont respond, as i wont after this.....
