Good, good. The more alternatives there are, the lower the price. Anyone who thinks the prices are not reasonable should visit their favourite etailer, there is absolutely nothing at that price range right now.

But these are MSRP prices, not retail prices in the shop. We already have bunch of cards with MSRP around that (various 3060 models), which are much faster. Why should old overpriced cards drive down prices of new faster cards?

Anyone who cannot wait any longer will buy the older 2000 series cards, and that reduces the overall demand of the 3000 series cards. This applies even if the price is way above the MSRP, as long as its below the 3000 series cards.

Wouldn't it have been smarter for Ngreedia to take all those 2060 and 2060S dies and turn them into mining boards? They could fill the market they basically own anyway and then leave the Ampere dies to the actual GPU buyers.

I was about to say the same thing more or less.

People pointing at MSRP right now really need to wake up. MSRP means nothing. Here is what I find at the $300-$400 range that is actually obtainable in the US :

Shipped and sold by Newegg $300-$400: NOTHING, yep, NOTHING at $300-$400
Shipped and sold by Newegg $200-$300: NOTHING

Best Buy $200-$500: One single fan 1650 Super at $219, and one single fan 1660 Super at $319. Nothing else.

Local Microcenter: Wow, there's 1 (one) 3070 at $819 - very rare. 1 5700XT at $599 + 1 at $569, and 1 570 at $169. The rest is more than 2 gens old, 1030s and 1050s and run around $150. Pick up only, I bet all of this is gone within 15 minutes of opening this morning.

Any supply they can get into the market will help. Right now there is nothing at all of any value in these price ranges.

Consumers are well advised to stick to laptops right now. If they want a future upgrade path for GPU, tell them to get a laptop with a Thunderbolt 3 or 4 port.

I can't see a lot of 2060's being sold at those prices.

Oh they will sell, if they are actually avaliable, at that price. I got my 2060 for €300 a few weeks ago and considered it a good deal. The same week the same card was sold on swedish ebay (tradera) for €430. The demand for gaming gpu's is pretty crazy right now. Price these at €250 and €350 and keep supply up and they will sell like hotcakes. But considering how things are they will sell like hotcakes at any price. There are no cards to buy pretty much.

Mining craze galore. It's best to just forget about DIY PC building until mining bubble bursts again and Covid gets under control aka people go back to work.

Naah, more like low supply and more people getting into gaming and wanting to upgrade their older cards. The minibg craze is not as big as previous ones and supply is still worse.

Paying 300/400€ (370/490$) or more for 2060/S is stupid imho. Just get 4 gigs RX 580 for 90€ on 2nd hand market if you need GPU now and wait for ETH price to collapse. There will be plenty of 3060TIs, 3070s and 3080s to choose from on 2nd hand market for the price of 2060/S when it happens.

I completely abandoned idea of upgrading my 1080 and the rest of pc until prices get in a ballpark of normal. Instead I’m simply enjoying backlog on current hardware as it runs fine and checking some new stuff on Series X with game pass. It’s not worth paying €600 for 3060ti with mere 8gb, when a €500 console is a complete system with graphics around 3070 level.
Same here. I upgraded to a second hand 1080 Ti for around 350€ about one and a half year ago, which back then was an awesome deal. I probably won't/can't upgrade till 2022...
This market is painfully effed up (cf. article up there)...

Prices of second hand cards don't make any sense either. I don't know how things are in US, UK, France, Germany or other countries, but in Greece even second hand 3-5 year old cards had gone ridiculously up. For example SECOND HAND 1660 selling for 300 euros when it was costing 200 euros NEW a couple of months ago. A 1070 for the same price.

Color me impressed, ebay has the nearly 6 year old GTX 980 Ti cards going anywhere from $150-300 right now (depending on make/model).

I figured they'd be a lot less since they're nearly 6 years old and considering a 3060Ti or 3070 or RX 6800 give twice the performance of the 980Ti and cost less than the 980Ti did when it launched (well....the new GPUs originally cost less, now they're just all horribly over priced).

My 980Ti OCs like a champ - she out paces most 1070s, so at least I have that going for me. Guess the $600 I have sitting on the side for a new GPU won't go to anything for while. I'm content with my new 5900x and Samsung 500GB 970 Pro m.2 drive, I'll just keep waiting for something that's twice the performance of my 980Ti and doesn't cost over $600.

You will if it is all that is available. Why they are doing this is beyond me...

Why wouldn't they? If they have 100,000 2060 GPU chips sitting in a warehouse, that will help the overall market a lot.

And the 2060 is a good card, significantly faster than a 1660 Super or Ti. Like 25% better performance vs 1660 Super and +20% faster than a 1660 Ti. Right now, the 1660 Super sells for more than I paid for the 2060 ($305). A $300-$350 USD 2060 would be an absolute steal right now, given that a 2060 will sell for over $400 used on ebay.

Intel can't solve the problem, because it will outsource production of Xe to TSMC and maybe Samsung later down the road. TSMC's 7nm fabs are fully booked as it is. There simply isn't enough 7nm production capacity to meet demand atm. Things might change once PS5/XBoX X achieve console market saturation and etherium's price collapses, but GPU market is F---ed until then.

You don't need 7nm to make a GPU. 14nm is equivalent to TSMCs 12nm, which is what the RTX 2000 / GTX 16XX are made one.

If Intel backported Xe to 14nm and blew out a million cards with 1660 to 2060 levels of performance, the market wouldn't be in this funk right now.

Just stop buying hardware. Part of me thinks this is an experiment to see how high the masses are willing to spend.

Don't buy into their shit.
It's not always that simple. I have a 1080Ti that is having intermittent issues, not OCed, never mined with. It just loses video out every few days. Unfortunately I have a couple of data applications that require running on Cuda cores, so AMD is not a choice for me. Not every enthusiast is a gamer. Also with Nvidia removing the NVLink connector on anything lower than a 3090, I am kind of stuck with trying to get the stupid money 3090 card.

But why would Intel cannibalize it's 14nm production capacities with GPUs when it can sell every tinny CPU it produces to enterprise costumers (especially data centers and laptops) atm for way higher profit margins than they can get when producing large discrete GPU dies? There is zero financial incentives for them to do that. That's why they're outsourcing Xe production to 3rd parties in the first place (+ not being to able develop usable 10nm/7nm fabs themselves atm).

I will pass on the 2060, thanks but no thanks. Yes I know its better then what I have but..

If I wanted a 2 year old card with a markup I would buy one used locally :D

Rhetorical. They should have just rebranded these as 3040s or something.
