There are 2.5 billion gamers around the world, a diverse group united by their love of e-sports and gaming - and by being an overlooked group from a life-at-home perspective. But that is about to change: the new gaming range developed by IKEA in collaboration with Republic of Gamers (ROG) was launched at IKEA China on January 29, 2021. From May 2021 it will be available at IKEA Japan, and from October 2021 the range will be sales started globally. Gaming is more than a fun past-time. It is a way to wind down and take your mind off everyday hassles, and to connect with people everywhere. For some, it is even a livelihood. With an ever-increasing number of gamers worldwide and a rapidly growing market, getting into gaming was a natural step for IKEA.

At IKEA, we know a lot about smart home furnishing solutions, but we are novices at gaming. So, how to create a properly high-performing gaming range? To contribute to a better everyday life for all gamers, IKEA partnered with ROG (Republic of Gamers), an ASUS sub-brand, keeping the leading position in gaming industry and designing high quality, innovative hardware and gear for gamers. ROG has in-depth knowledge of the gaming industry and want to find new ways to make gaming blend into the home. Combining the best of these two worlds, the collaboration aimed to democratise the gaming experience, by creating relevant, functional, beautiful and affordable products and complete gaming solutions to make it easier for everyone to create the setup and the home they want.

The new gaming range will target PC gamers and include six product families: HUVUDSPELARE, UTESPELARE, MATCHSPEL, GRUPPSPEL, UPPSPEL, LÅNESPELARE. All UPPSPEL products have been designed by IKEA and ROG in close collaboration. The remaining product families have been developed by IKEA based on the insights and knowledge gained from the collaboration to ensure the width of the total gaming offer and to meet the various needs of IKEA customers in terms of function, design and price.

In total, the new gaming range includes more than 30 products, covering both furniture - gaming desks and chairs, a drawer unit - and accessories - a mug holder, a mouse bungee, a neck pillow, a ring light and many more. Each product family offers a gaming desk and a chair of different price range to meet the needs of different target groups.

The new gaming range was launched at IKEA China on January 29, 2021. From May 2021 it will be available at IKEA Japan, and from October 2021 the range will be sales started globally.

"Gamers globally know and love the ROG brand and they trust it to deliver the most exciting gaming innovations in the market," says Kris Huang, General Manager of the ASUS Gaming Gear and Accessory Business Unit. "Our new partnership with the experts at IKEA will allow ROG to find new and interesting ways to delight gamers in and around the home."

"The needs of billions of gamers around the globe are very diverse, whereas the existing offer is rather technical and often perceived as masculine design-wise, despite around 46% of gamers being female. We believe there's a lot to be done to democratise the gaming experience", says Ewa Rychert, Global Business Leader of Workspace, IKEA of Sweden. "Now we take the first step on our gaming journey, and we do it by presenting affordable, high-performing gaming products and complete solutions that we hope reflect people's personality and taste".

Take old stock of stuff nobody wanted, give it a fashionable logo, say "it's for GAMERZ!!!", rinse with some corporate hogwash marketing, raise prices (you know, because GAMERZ!!!). Profit.

I'm sure there will be people who want this polished turd. I'm not one to focus on aesthetics, but Ikea seems to me like a last resort type of thing - if you really need some furniture, but for some reason can't get anything of decent quality, you get Ikea stuff made from cardboard

2.5 billion gamers?! That is complete bullshit, it means that more than 1 in 3 people is a gamer. Which is completely impossible!

Also, do not belittle all the IKEA products, some are quite nice and some chairs are quite alright for gaming - especially if you get them when discounted.

Gotta agree with TheLostSwede. If you avoid the obviously cheap stuff, IKEA also makes good stuff at affordable prices. My desk is probably around 10 years old and it's still in pretty great shape.

That chair would be OK if they'd opt for mesh or at least fabric instead of fake leather for the seat.

Stop buying the crap products in IKEA, as they're crap.
Furniture - yeah, most is pretty shotty.

The one good thing I ever picked up from Ikea was a wok. It doesn't have any assembly required and the non-stick surface is still intact on it. I use at least once a week cooking various things since it works so well. I've had the wok for 8 or 9 years now.

As for possible computer gaming furniture....I think I'll just pass it up and not buy anything of this sort from Ikea.

Apparently their height adjustable working desks aren't half bad, the only problem is that they have a firmware bug that they haven't bothered fixing, so sometimes they get stuck and can only go down...

I have a lot of crap from IKEA, since it's one of the few places here that sells affordable "western" things. Also the only place here where I can get some Swedish-ish food. (No, I generally don't eat in their restaurant)
I have slowly tried to move away from their stuff, but I have some good kitchen products from them, especially a little pairing knife they no longer make. Snapped the blade of the previous one on some really hard cabbage...
Oh, they make rather good garden furniture and most of that comes pre-assembled.

I'm suprised they didn't ROG-out that Fredde desk. I do love it for the utility and quality it is for itself. That's a popular desk for many gamers and PC builders.

I guess it might be the case sometimes, but such a situation fits the "last resort" scenario I mentioned. I moved several times and never had problems finding something much better around a similar price point. Not always local, but even furniture from other "big box" stores was made from better materials (i.e. not a cardboard honeycomb trying to pass as a solid wood). IKEA is just, well, bad. From shoddy quality to corporate culture bordering on tax fraud.

I guess you've just bought the cheap crap then, as I have several products from IKEA that have lasted a long time, some that even are solid wood.
And there really aren't many options here, for whatever reason. No such thing as "big box" stores here apart from Costco and they don't really sell furniture.
There's a Japanese chain called Nitori that opened a few years ago, but most of their furniture feels like children's furniture to me, as they really are made for a smaller built people. Nothing wrong with that, but it simply wouldn't work for me. The quality is also worse than IKEA for most of their products.
The local furniture shops either sell very poor quality products, or it's super expensive, or just super tacky.
Not saying I want to buy all my furniture at IKEA, but I only have so much choice if I want something "western".

Needs RGB and an LCD screen that flashes the Asus ROG logo everytime you put your foot on the pedal to throw away some trash
If that happens, I will hunt you down... and umm, ..., wait, I'll think of something... :toast:

Somehow I read that as GUBBSPEL. I want that table though. And l hope it doesn't cost as much as IDASEN... I mean IDÅSEN.

The regular IDÅSEN isn't expensive at all and is orders of magnitude sturdier than the barely cheaper BEKANT.

The sit-stand IDÅSEN is a pretty hefty price because of the Linak motors. But you get what you pay for; the BEKANT sit-stand is pretty expensive, and for that price I'd rather have a regular IDÅSEN than a BEKANT whose 1cm thick plastic desk surface bends at the corners

I hope i got the names right swede, dont kill me
