Regarding the side buttons they are attached on a flimsy plastic. If you used them during heated gameplay, you can break them. I had two RATs and the side buttons broke the same way. Also, after long hours the blue LED would become weak, and you will not be able to represent some colors.

As much as I loved my R.A.T.7, I've come to appreciate just how important a low weight is. All the customisation in the world is pointless when this thing weighs twice what current gaming mice do.

There are people who prefer heavier mice, and I'm one of them. I don't play shooters, and certainly not "competitive" ones. I use R.A.T. mice since they came to market, as I very much enjoy the wide, low profile shape. It's probably aesthetics more than anything, I really dislike the "bar of soap" shape of most mice, smartphones and other devices. I just like sharp edges.
But back on topic, right now I use the older R.A.T. 6 with all the weights installed, so around 145g and I wouldn't mind it being 20 grams more. It gives me more precision in games and work.

The weight isn't the issue. The click latency is.

There's plenty of mice that fulfill your requirements of being wide and well built, on the heavier side, while not taking 20fking ms to do literally their one job. Complete failure of engineering this product.

Big numbers are pointless if they're not engineered to actually perform to spec. A superior engineered lower tech product will beat a shittily designed and made higher tech.

Razer 8kz mouse is actually good, but not just because it's a bigger number, because razer engineers know what they are doing and aren't clowns.

I suffer from pain when using a mouse for some time. I tried a vertical ergonomic and now things are much better but it's a cheap one, I bought it just to see if it would fit me.
Does anyone know what's the best vertical ergonomic mouse for big hands, without being utterly expensive?

I have a R.A.T 5 for 7 or 8 years can't remember exactly , the switches are crap , started oiling them 3 or 4 years ago to stop registerting 2-3 clicks at a single click , changed the cable on the 4th year since the original was with aluminum or some other stiff metal alloy that snapped somewhere , the sensor is sticking in horizontal axis only when it gatters the tiniest particle of dust. This is not a mice but hell. My old 10$ Logitech optical mice from 2004 had only one issue for a decade of use the switches cut channels in the buttons plastic and were not registering clicks which was very easy to fix with glue and aluminum foil. So be sure what you are getting into when you order mice since it is becoming part of you and for me personally is really hard to switch from any mice to any mice it takes alot of accommodation and most of the time I just don't want to let go the crap I have.

The original Mad Catz R.A.T. mice had terrible build quality. I RMA'd my R.A.T.7 3 times before ebaying the fourth unopened box.

Mad Catz effectively went out of business and the name and IPs were bought, so hopefully these new ones aren't quite as ropey.
