Intel has just announced their new 12th Gen Alder Lake processors. These bring with them the biggest change to the x86 ecosystem since 64-bit was introduced. Alder Lake is comprised of highly efficient E-Cores and fast P-Cores. We'll explain all this in our Alder Lake preview and also give you the details on DDR5 and PCI-Express 5.0.

I am VERY interested to see gaming performance while running streaming software on a 9th, 10th, and 11th gen CPU and then again with 12th gen and see the results. This could effectively kill dual streaming setups and you wont have to worry about the CPU being a limiting factor because of the P & E cores.

People reading this read the small print on the gaming benchmarks
-1080p
intel is running DDR5 4400Mz
and the AMD system is running DDR4 3200 at god knows what CL
edit: apperently they are using windows 11 22000.9 which has the broken cpu scheduler and L3 cache Bug

That's easily 15% gaming performance lost there on the AMD side

Worst thant this: https://www.techpowerup.com/review/intel-core-12th-gen-alder-lake-preview/images/slide-62.jpg

"Testing as: Oct. 1st, 2021" and "windows 11 pro ver 22000.9" (so broken ryzen L3 cache), "Intel PL1: 241w" <=> "AMD PL1: 105w", not the same memory (more than DDR4/5, 4 vs 2 sticks) ...
edit: same specs for gaming: https://www.techpowerup.com/review/intel-core-12th-gen-alder-lake-preview/images/slide-61.jpg

It looks like Intel showed up with their A game again, but I won't be convinced until I see independent verification.

The details of the AMD system are mentioned in the appendix, the ram is G.Skill DDR4 CL 14-14-14-34 4x16GB DDR4-3200 Mhz. Honestly I don't see the issue, being capable to deploy DDR5 RAM, while AMD cannot, is one of the selling points for Intel, you can't expect them to give themselves a handicap. Rather the possible issue here is that they're using Windows 11 and I'm not sure if the build that they've used (22000.9) was suffering from the issues with the L3 cache latencies and the scheduler.

Any news on then IGP front, namely HDMI and DP level support? ASUS's lineup lists HDMI 2.1 and DP 1.4 (sometimes "Thunderbolt 4" is listed as a video output). If so, in the actual review, may you check to see if it's full 48Gbps HDMI 2.1 or one of the common lessor HDMI 2.1 implementations?

Actually 190W PL1 PL2 for 12700K is not bad I guess. Was expecting it to be more power hungry TBH.

If disabling 4 E-cores we may very well see a similar PL2 with 5800X around 140W.

Edit: Correction of PL2, pointed out by @regs

Looks like retail pricing will be a lot higher than MSRP.
Newegg wants $649.99 for the Core i9-12900K.

Thunderbolt 4 demands DP 1.4, but it doesn't mean it'll be through the IGP...

True, though I have not seen DP inputs on ASUS Z690 TB4 boards. I know past ASRock and MSI boards had DP inputs for Thunderbolt.

240W as the new default TDP for a MSDT CPU is just ridiculous.
And in content creation they apparently perform so bad that they don't even bother to compare it to the 5950X...

I don't think that is a full HDMI 2.1. Because ark.intel.com lists maximum HDMI output as 4k@60Hz. A full 48Gbps HDMI 2.1 should support 8k@60Hz

I dont like it’s high power draw, but it will be the new performance king and AMD has no answer until next year’s fall?
