Hi...I had installed a Ryzen 5 3500 processor on my second system which previously ran a ryzen 5 1600AF...now i am getting an idle temperature of 41 to 44 degree C and a loading/boot temp of 57 to 63 degrees C.....the cooler i am using is a CM Hyper 212X with AM4 socket support.

My system specs are:
Ryzen 5 3500 6 core processor,
Asus B450 MA-II Motherboard (the one with vrm heatsinks)
Cooler master Hyper 212X cpu cooler.
16 GB ddr4 ram
Gigabyte Aorus Radeon Rx 570 GPU
PSU: Corsair CV 550 watts
Case: Corsair Carbide 175R with all fan positions filled ( 3 intake in front, 2 top exhaust, 1 rear exhaust)

Are these temps normal?
If not, what would be a better air cooler for the R5 3500?...not going to go for liquid cooling since it is a sparingly used system..

For that cooler it sounds normal... 3500 is a 7nm chip so higher heat density vs a 1600AF which is 12nm.

Not unreasonable at all? Though it's hard to tell for sure as you haven't given any real load temps (CB R23, CPU-Z "stress" option, etc.).

Ryzen runs warm at "idle" because most users don't understand that sitting in front of their computer with even one background program open isn't "idle" as far as a Ryzen 3000/4000/5000 chip is concerned. You can see boost speeds and temps instantaneously spike if you so much as move your mouse, let alone having anything open. Close stuff, cut down on unnecessary services (idle you don't want to see Processes in Task Manager over 150), let it turn the screen off (but not sleep), leave HWInfo open, come back in an hour and see what sort of minimum temps you hit.

When booting Win 10/11, you are loading a whole host of tray/background/foreground programs, especially so with Win 10 as most of them load after the login screen while HWInfo is starting up. Not uncommon to see any Ryzen 3000/5000 chip hit maximum temp of 55-70 in bootup, it's usually not very consistent either.

Thank you oxrufiioxo...thats a relief since i had already repasted and mounted the processor twice....and my old ryzen 1600AF had an idle temp of 33 to 38 degrees and load temps of not more than 55 to 59 degrees..

Will run benchmarks soon....right now leaving for my day job...just wanted to confirm the temps before running any benchmarks..:)

As @tabascosauz was saying what are you using to load the cpu?
considering CPU-Z and Cinebench...anything else?

BTW, forgot to mention the OS i am running...Its windows 11 build 22000.282 co_release..

Yeah no sweat, 282 is fine it's just that Win 11 loads a lot of stuff before the login screen whereas 10 loads after login. Just something that can influence the temps you see.

CB R23 can run in its default config, with 10min Minimum Test Duration, gives a better idea of steady state temps than Off.
Same with CPU-Z, run Stress button not Bench button so that it just keeps running and you can monitor to see where your temps actually level off.

As a side note, having a good paste and having a good paste application/spread can very slightly improve temps (~1-2C) on Ryzen 3000 and 5000 non-APUs, because basically all the heat from your CPU is coming from the small die in the lower right:

q9gzi8s8p3a31.jpg

But don't get all worried because of that. So far temps seem just fine, only worry about that if there's something really off.

Well...i ran cpuz stress test as you said for 15 min now...the load temperature is holding steady at 74.9 degrees with processor cooler fans at max...all core speed is 4092.5 Mhz...
The thermal paste i am using is Noctua NT H1..

Cinebench will have to wait.. :)

That's normal. Smaller and denser chips run hotter. That's why I switched to Intel after owning several Ryzen 3000 and 5000 series CPUs. I couldn't cool them in a small form factor case with limited airflow and cooler size. My 11700 has no problem running with a 100-125 W power limit, where a R5 3600 struggled even at stock.

Don't care about the idle temps, my 3600 is around 50C on idle even with watercooled. The load temps are the ones which matter.

This still sounds normal a 212X is only slightly better than a wraith prism cooler.

i am getting an idle temperature of 41 to 44 degree C
What is your room and case temperature?
Your idle CPU temp is perfectly normal for the Zen 2 architecture and seems typical of your cooler type/size. It is possible to achieve lower idle temps with Ryzen 3K with better cooling and tweaked power settings.

My 3300X is sitting at 34c as I'm typing this, 10c above my current room ambient. I only have Afterburner and Norton running in the background, and the browser has two tabs open. Current process count is 145. I'm using a big single tower cooler with one 140mm fan at 550rpm.

If you're after lower temps, first install Ryzen Master and see whether your cores are powered off at idle. It should say "sleep" next to every core:

idle.jpg

In Power & Sleep settings, move the Performance and Energy slider to the leftmost position for Best Energy Savings. Edit your current Power Plan so that Minimum Processor State is at 0%.

Again, your idle and load temps are fine as they are. No reasons to worry.

My room temp varies from 28c to 30c... and i place my computer on the floor on a small 4 wheeled trolly...
i dont normally use the ac as my home is at a elevated hilly area where the ambient temps dont exceed 25 to 32c..

Again, your idle and load temps are fine as they are. No reasons to worry.
Exactly that.

IMO, one should optimise cooling, power options / overclocking and fan curves for low temps in load, and silence in idle. I mean, just look at GPUs with idle fan-stop sitting at 40-50 °C in idle with zero rpm fans.

If a chip has a maximum temperature of 95 °C and is below that value under full load, nobody cares how cool it is in idle. :)

i have the 3600+212x combo but with a better fan, as the original one sucks (artic f12 or P12 i can't remember exactly).

It came from previous builds and I has going to buy a better one but saw no benefit so i never did it. My temps are 36/37ºC idle and 71/72ºC full load

my original coolermaster RF 120 fans which came with the hyper 212x were loud at max speed so i switched to the deepcool ones...

my old fans..the second fan i ordered separately...and had a different matte texture finish compared to the original fan which was included with the hyper 212x..

A bit on the hot side, admittedly, but your PC should have no problems handling it. You may want to swap the RAM for something faster if you intend to use it for gaming. 3600MHz CL16 is optimal for Zen 2.
