I get your point, but it's still technically possible to buy a new B450 board that has neither an updated 5000-series BIOS nor the ability to flash a new BIOS without an older CPU, right?

You do need to ignore most guides and advice to pair a cheap, old B450 board with a CPU that could be classed as high-end given that the cheapest 5000-series offering is still about $270 - and yet it does and will continue to happen.
You mean like how intels 6/7/8 gen CPU's are socket compatible, but with a dozen variations that prevent it working? (mostly artificial)
Just like intels 10th 11th and 12th gen...

It's not like thousands of vendors list the CPU's by socket or anything, where you can go search for a socket 1200 CPU and motherboard and get a jumbled mess of a build that physically fits, but has zero chance of ever working

Yet the problem is on the AMD side, where you can at least get the BIOS flashed and fix the issue? (AMD used to mail out CPU's to people to flash with, but these days its easier to get a store to do it... ones near me offer it free with the mobo purchase)

You've made me go so far off topic i had to even drag out an old meme for this one, and i ran out of text space and had to make two memes

It can happen if you get some older stock, but most boards should come updated by now. There's also A520 (wow, didn't even know that was a thing) and B550 is pushing down with the cheapest boards already at 100$ so there's less and less reasons to buy a B450 now. Anyway, at this point at this point if you're looking at B450 you should know enough to check for flashback, if you don't a it's nice learning opportunity :D

Anyone who cant get a Zen 2 or Zen 3 system working out of the box, needs to be returned to their manufacturer.

Ahaha nice one :D

to be fair most 1xx and 2xx boards can be modded to be compatible to all LGA1151 skylakes, so there's that too
10th gen having a new socket is just a big fuckyou, but thats just intel for you i guess, but i wouldnt really rate amd's fuckyou for x370 early adopters any lower tbh, quite irrespective of what they've (re-)committed to patching 2 years later, the damage's already done

Haha :D

You either missed a few posts of didn't read the thread all the way through. I was just talking specifically about AMD in response to Tigger. You don't need to convince me of the Intel shenanigans; I'm basically a part-time S.I. validator at this point and have personally built hundreds of S1151 machines across all three generations for internal and external customers.

You mean we won't be able to oc our locked cpu's that we never expected to oc anyways? I guess it's time to blow $270 on a 5600x.

LOL. Let's OC our entry level CPU on a 500 dollar mobo guys, go.

Aaand influencurs and tubers found another headline to base 15 minutes of bullshit on. Yay.
For everyone else: nothing to see here, really.
I think for most, this is appropriate :)

Naked Gun Meme

Apologies, file was too big to upload directly.

EDIT - And whilst I remember I think correctly (I'm getting old, the grey matter might not be holding data like it once was...) was the i3 6320 the same when they had to physically patch BIOS's of motherboards to stop this from happening??.....

When you figure in the cost of the cooling and the boards that allow you to oc it just doesn't seem worth it these days unless you have a sizeable budget.

My comment was referencing this-
but it's still technically possible to buy a new B450 board that has neither an updated 5000-series BIOS nor the ability to flash a new BIOS without an older CPU, right?
That's my response to Mussels much later in the timeline though.

You replied to Stimpy:
You Intel folks need to be a bit wary about updating your BIOS sooner or later. Intel likes to take your toys away, as a loving response to your fanboyism.
with this claim that Ryzen users have to update their BIOS
If your machine is working fine, there is no need to. Ryzen users have to to make their CPUs actually work.
Mussels then made a counter-claim against you:
Anyone who cant get a Zen 2 or Zen 3 system working out of the box, needs to be returned to their manufacturer.
And I countered Mussels counter-claim with this.
I get your point, but it's still technically possible to buy a new B450 board that has neither an updated 5000-series BIOS nor the ability to flash a new BIOS without an older CPU, right?
Makes perfect sense to me in the correct chronological order of posts; I'm not sure where the comprehension failure is coming from :)

Just do like me and bash everything, that way you can't ever be blamed of biased/fanboi mode :D
Bashing everything is usually the safest bet. All companies are greedy profiteers and screw up often enough to make the headlines :p

Then get butt hurt and start fanboi insinuations, while round three you turn into an offended Lilly, remember.

I kind of dislike how they do not really say what that 65W means. They say "limited to" and "spec" which are not the same thing. I just with they would say what the PL1, PL2 and Tau values are, even if what they are using are spec. I suppose spec would be 65W, 180W and 58s.
This TDP values are really going to matter in laptops, where thermal mass is limited and power consumption is a big deal. I've already ranted about the meaningless of TDP values enough that I won't dig that up again but yeah performance efficiency is more important to me than outright performance these days.

Alder Lake is pretty damn impressive - enough to make Zen3 look decidedly last-gen - but Intel 10 7 is nowhere near as strong as TSMC7 and the new laptops will be competing with TSMC6 which is supposed to be around 15% more efficient for the same clocks. At lower wattage Alder Lake is still a very formidable competitor but even against older TSMC7 Zen3 chips it's not a definitive win.

intel has been whining about non-k overclocking since they created the K SKU
Maby they need to take a page from AMD's book and just stop locking it down altogether
instead of repeating the age-old "overclocking may damage Your hardware" lie
if that was true at all then there would be a lot more dead K-SKU's dead too because its the same silicon it just doesn't have the multiplier unlocked

I doubt peeps who purchase locked cpu's expect to overclock them. If they're wanting a cpu that they can OC then they have the option to purchase an unlocked cpu.

The point was not which is best at gaming but can people OC a 12100 etc and gain MORE than base performance.
