Intel certainly has gotten viciously lately, its good to see technology finally going again after there was a bit of a pause with the p4's and athlons.

They already covered that with E2000 and E4000 Series imho. And E2000 series is pretty young even.

I think theses are the prices places like newegg will be getting.. (well since they buy so much they will prob get it cheaper but you get what Im saying).

I'll like to see hoe the e84 or 85 hundred will do overclocking.. I see them hitting 4.5ghz 8O.

Wolfdale is the Desktop Dual Core Penryn (45nm ) and Yorkfiield is the Quad. Its not a "true quad" in so much as its 2 x Wolfdales on one chip, (Dual Die Dual Core) so it has 2 x shared L2 cache.

"True Quad" will come with the Nehalem in 2008 probably........

moot point though - these new chips look awesome. I held of on a new system with a Q6600 and the Q9450 is looking like the one for me

true quad is 4 cores on one die, intel quad core chips have 2 dual core die's in them

and it's not really that much of an issue, initial concerns were that non-'true' quad core designs may be bottlenecked by the fsb, though this has not been an issue in practice (at least for now)

the only real advantage to a true quad design, is lower cache chips would benefit from the extra cache available to them in single threaded apps (though as intels quads are all based on the higher cache variants of their dual core chips, this really isnt an issue)

All the cores are integrated on one die and they are connected by the Cache. Intel connects the two dual core packages by the fsb.

doesn't intel use 2 C2Ds and they are connected by the FSB? The AMD doesn't have the HT or FSB it is directly connected? Am i understanding it right?

All I can say is that I've been a fan of Intel for countless years, and I'm really glad to see them straightening their act up over the last couple of years. It's sad they had to take a beating by AMD, but . . . that's what complacency will get you.

Either way, aren't the new 45nm going to be on the 771 socket? I really don't see much changing my mind over the QX6850 come Jan. I'm not in the mood to swap out a mobo that's less thana month old (currently) just to support a CPU that's in the same ballpark as the current QX~s.

No its 775 and there are already motherboards out that support them.

i care because the pentium D series compared to the c2d series was nothing. the C2D chips pwned the P4 D chips, and i expect it to be the same. The 'true' quads will pwn the dual die quads.

if there not true quads, then i doubt i'll upgrade to a quad core proc untill the true quads are out. i may just upgrade to the e8500/new mobo/new gpu/

Sure it sounds really cool to say things like "true", fact is there is no such thing as "true" quad core, it has 4 cores so it's a quad core. How the cores are interconnected and/or connected to the bus is completely irrelevant. Or would you say a dual P3/Xeon/Opteron isn't a true dual processor system because the cores aren't in a single die?
