People are looking at specific games, but you should look at the overall performance. At 720p, it is 10% better than 5800X and it slots between 12700K and 12900K. That is a good feat, but it is a waste of silicon, given how much space that 64MB takes, almost a full chiplet.

Not the best possible memory for Ryzen (latencies other than CL quite poor), and no information about either single or dual rank (which may have a big impact).
Alder Lake has about the best DDR5 memory money can buy.
Ryzen:
2x 16 GB DDR4-3600
16-20-20-34 1T
Infinity Fabric @ 1800 MHz 1:1

Alder Lake:
2x 16 GB G.SKILL Trident Z5 RGB DDR5-6000
36-36-36-76 2T / Gear 2

Hmm, would putting something like 3800cl16 increase the performance..? Would be fair given that ddr5 kit is pretty top-notch while the ddr4 kit is pretty slow for todays standards.

Congrats for the early review and thanks for your hard work as always.
Honestly I'm extremely curious of what that 96MB of L3$ can do in combination with 128MB of L3$ and SAM with a 6900XT or 6800XT (to keep condition similar with RTX 3080 tested here), so curious I'm considering buying one myself to test it!
Do you think such a test could be possible??
I know it's incredibly time consuming, but I belive it can be a great piece of content ;-)

Yes, but the CPU can't run DDR4-3800 at 1:1, max FCLK is 1866 MHz

Could you add Farcry 6?
It seems Alder lake does really well with Farcry 6 and I wanted to see how the 5800x3d compares.

is like, everything about it locked? cant change any voltages at all? like, the IOD ones related to memory/fclk, they shouldn't hurt the 3dcache no

Exactly. Have been doing some tests @4K with my new (finally!) 3080 and tbh if I limit my 5950x to single CCD and 6 cores/ccd (6 cores in total like a 3600x) it doesn't make a difference.
Well, you didn't need 5800X3D review to be out to know that

Well you all look Avg FPS , look at the framepacing this CPU is delivering the smoothest frametimes and has 99.9%th higher than the average framerates of most of the other CPUs. Which means it is delivering the smoothest gameplay with less hickups no matter the resolution or the GPU.

Would you please show where that is stated?
Almost all Ryzen 5000-series can run FCLK 1900 or 2000. Even many Ryzen 300o-series work at FCLK 1900 (like my TR 3960X).
A fast (dual rank) b-die kit @3600 CL16-16-16-36 or even 3600 CL14-14-14-34 would have given quite a bit better results.

Very interesting, but I guess I won't be getting this since the improvement at 4K just doesn't matter over my existing 5800x.

It's not stated anywhere.. I tested it, 1866 POST, 1900 no POST, which probably means WHEA errors at 1866

Well written summary and appreciate the detailed benchmarks. I was expecting more than WinRAR to really appreciate the cache but this is still quite interesting.

I'm really curious if Microsoft Flight Sim will benefit from the cache..

The Bios you are using lacks the 3D V-Cache Optimizer Driver and you are using an unoptimized AGESA 1.2.0.6c. release. These benchmarks need to be redone when AMD releases the 3D V-Cache Optimizer Driver abroad(currently only available for Gigabyte MB) and 1usmus is stating the performance is enhanced by AGESA 1207

I'm underwhelmed for the price. With the exception of a few odd ducks, it's less than 10% faster than 5800x for 20% more cost.

Very impressive cpu.

Easy recommendation for those 2 gens behind if their motherboard supports it.

killer far cry (lol) and borderland performance - wow!

“can it play farcry “

yes,yes indeed.

Bravo AMD

I think, OC is possible on board with external clock generator like Crosshair VI or VII Hero. But not much.

It's a fact that you are using an unoptimized Driver. AMD has not released the 3D V-Cache Optimizer Driver abroad(currently only available for Gigabyte MB).

I asked over on reddit but might as well ask here. Any idea if that is just a dud mc or is it another X3D limitation?

for Alder lake with DDR4 , What's maximum clock without getting error in prime95 ( or general )?

I'm curious about those new drivers but maybe they are more usefull on non game scenarios. Here we can see 10% increase from 5800X even with lower clocks, so 3DV-Caché is doing his job excellently

No way to know at this time, I'm sure other reviewers will test it in a couple of days. CPU is retail, not an ES, in case you're wondering
