Sony's onslaught on PC-centric gamers' wallets through the release of its critically-acclaimed exclusives shows no signs of slowing down. After porting God of War and announcing the release of the Spider Man series of video games, the company at the Summer Games Fest shared details on the upcoming PS5 remake of the original The Last of Us Part 1. With over 200 game of the year awards, it remains one of the single-player, story-driven masterpieces of gaming history. But the announcement came with its own twist: the company also confirmed a PC version is in development.

The modernized version of Last of Us Part 1 will be coming to PS5 first, with a release date set for September 2nd 2022. Development on both the PS5 and PC version being done by Naughty Dog itself. According to Sony, the modernized version will be "a total overhaul" of the original, "faithfully reproduced but incorporating modernized gameplay, improved controls and expanded accessibility options," while also offering "improved effects and enhanced exploration and combat."

Considering the quality of Sony's PC ports (God of War even added support for the mostly PC-centric AMD FSR 2.0 and NVIDIA's DLSS upscaling technologies), we're hoping this game too will be more than a simple straight port. But considering the quality and attention to detail that Naughty Dog stubbornly and proudly infuses in its games, our hopes are high for an impressive, engrossing experience that's more than enough to make grown men cry.

Well considering the number of major studios MS has gobbled up Sony will have to remove a lot of their "PS" exclusive titles & release them on PC, or risk losing a lot of sales in the coming years!

Finished the original together with expansion, never came back to it. And no, it didn't make me cry. The only game that made me cry was Disco Elysium.

Yeah... This is something which is definitely going to bug a lot of people. $70 for a 9 year old game.

The PC community have waited for 9 years only to get charged 2021/22 prices for a 2013 game that has had content removed and repackaged...

I Dont Think So No Way GIF by TLC Europe

::EDIT::

Activision still have the original CoD4 on steam for £20 ($25USD)

Back in the day this game would have been £8-15 for a game this old or £5 from a bargain bucket. But at least the prices havent gone up a whole lot... I paid between £18-20 for CoD4 the day it came out.

The only game that made me think about buying a PS4. Now I'm glad I didn't. :D

I'd much rather pay $70 for a great story experience than for a shooter that's so fast that I can't even see what I'm doing and that can only be played together with angry teenagers.

Already seen the playthrough from a streamer I like. Since the game is 100% around the story, I don't see anything I could get by playing it myself...

Too little too late I guess...

Well, if one equates videogames with art, it seems like a middle-ground proposition between artworks' value increasing with time and the scale of videogame distribution. It's not like games have developed that much in the meantime, and I'm hard-pressed to remember games with such incredible writing, tone, atmosphere, and storytelling as this one.

I'd prefer to save money wherever possible, but if I really do want to save money, I'll just wait before acquiring it.

It just seems more like a cash grab the same way how a lot of game publishers, movie & tv studios/producers like Disney are terrible at making original content so make it a priority to release remasters of things theyve already done that were successful.

Im not saying that the developers/publishers shouldnt be paid for their hard work, But the game has already made money. They got their ROI and more since TLOU:1 was such a smash hit.

This could have easily turned into a genuine celebration of TLOU:1 totally ignoring the second game as well as Neil Druckmann who probably made sure that some folks wont ever buy his games again.

But yeah. I wouldnt buy it for $70. I'd be happy to wait another 9 years for it to hit the steam sales.

4 to 5 years, has been more or less the time gap between Playstation and PC lauch

I think some of the remake stuff usually launches at slightly lower prices (like 60$ or 50$), there's also waiting for black friday discounts anyway

Unfortunately, this is what we have observed in the PC games industry of late. If you think 9 years is bad, consider how old Diablo 2 is. And we should be expecting a lot of classic to be "remastered" or "reboot". For me, I think I am happy with Sony's decision to port games to PC. That means I don't need to buy a console just to play specific games. If they release on PC, great. If not, it is status quo anyway.

Now I wonder how long will it take for a recent game like Horizon Forbidden West to get PC release :)
I reckoned at least 2 years (going forward) so that it will be "exclusive" to PS. Usually at the 1 year mark, the game could be sold for 30 to 50% during sale periods. By 2nd year, they tend to be very cheap. So I feel it is a good time to revitalize sale by opening it up to PC.

I just bought this game the remastered version for $9.99 on playstation 5

im happy with that, and the screenshot comparisons I have seen, I actually prefer the graphics of the older version to be honest. so hard pass for me.

Ellie looks much more emotional in the older remastered version compared to the remake screenshots.

meh

Exclusives only damage a games potential sales. Once hype dies for a new game it's dead - people might pick it up down the road for a $10 sale... Trying to sell old games at new game prices makes zero sense.

It's a cash grab when you turn Mass Effect into Mass Effect: Legendary Edition by adding a single shadow in a far corner of some random map and polishing the UI a bit.

It's not a cash grab when a game gets released on PC for the first time.

Dunno, I've played the original ME serie vanilla then Nexus modded the second time and the Legendary Edition for a third time and I still think its the best way to experience the serie.
There are lot of small changes that do count in overall, making the game better to play imo. 'Theres a pretty big list of changes actually'

From what I know/read it was fairly successful and for the most part positively accepted.

Personally I'm glad that Last of us 1 is coming to the PC, I was always interested in it but I never owned any console and I don't plan to just for a few games. 'In the waiting room for HZD Forbidden West too '

Just to avoid confusion, that remastered version is from the PS4, an "improved" one for the PS5 is coming later

thats the problem though, its not improved at all. look at a comparison screenshot of ellie of ps4 remaster vs the coming ps5 and pc "remake" the ps4 remaster may not have better shadows, but it has better facial emotional expressions.

hard pass.

A console exclusive, which relies on visual quality, brought on pc with new hardware. This is gonna be a bloodbath.
p.s: expecting 300GB download size for this game.

again, go look at screenshots of the same scenes

the ps4 remaster imo looks better than the ps5 and pc remake. more emotion and atmospheric. the remake is a downgrade imo. but hey if you want to go waste 60 bucks go for it
