They could've neutralised Alder Lake with Ryzen 9 3D. But it seems they cannot keep up with demand why bother.

Well, IF there really were a 5900X3D , then I'd be all over it like a bad rash. It'd be a great replacement for the 3900X I have right now.5900X3D is a compelling CPU for the duality of content creation/editing etc and gaming, a great mixture of cores for productivity, and that sweet sweet vcache for gaming.

Not really. Alder Lake beats the Ryzen 9s at most creation loads right now. We know from the 5800X3D that the 3D versions are actually worse in creation workflows. This is strictly a gaming boost. The Ryzen 9 doesn't make sense. Now a Ryzen 5 would. They could've neutralised Alder Lake with Ryzen 9 3D. But it seems they cannot keep up with demand why bother.

I can see the point of 5800X3D - to get the crown of the fastest gaming CPU (or at least trading blows), but having the whole lineup with that 3D cache, yeah, no sense. It will create internal competition - why does AMD insist to produce two lineups with approximately equal or similar performance characteristics?
Zen 3 3D =~ Zen 4.

Sucks though that Zen4 won't support DDR4, Intel did a wise move with ADL supporting though. The only thing that comes up in my mind is that AMD pursues higher production volumes - maybe they will be able to deliver more wafers Zen 3 3D + Zen 4 than only if they move everything to the new Zen 4.
Also, I think they are afraid of the DDR5 pricing, and this is why they will try to continue the AM4 support a bit further.

And yeah, I remember that Phenom II did support both DDR2 and DDR3, weird how they didn't do a similar thing again.

I paid 179EUR for my 32GB kit last year so I'll just keep kickin' with AM4 for a while, I bet that upgrading to a 5700X for example is more than fine for me for years.Yeah, anyone going to AM5 will need to ditch any expensive DDR4 they bought for a loss, unless like a fair few on here they are PC kleptos with multiple machines.
I can see a 5900X3D or 5950X3D to keep the platform in top spots of gaming charts while also offering excellent multitasking performance. A 5600X3D doesn't make much sense, considering the price hike this model will have because of the extra cost of adding Vcache and the fact that in multitasking will be even more problematic than 5800X3D when comparing it with Intel's models at the same price range.

We can't know yet but I have a feeling that AM4 won't die yet. Just a pure guess.A smaller die should allow for more leeway for a higher stacked cache capacity on a 5600X/5700X chip derivatives. AMD should should do Zen 3 5600X/5900X models with X3D and later add Zen 4 models for 5700X/5950X with X3D. That would allow for models to launch earlier and slightly later, but gives wiggle room compete compellingly with current Alder Lake models and Raptor Lake models arriving later as drop in replacements for AM4.

And why not, probably not impossible. Wondering how much that benefits in heavy usage like in workstation/server usage..Porting Zen 4 with 3D stacked cache to TRX40 is something that could very interesting for AMD to do.

Nvidia, AMD, and Apple are all reportedly cutting their wafer orders from TSMC as people put less priority on buying the latest electronic goods in light of rising global inflation.
According to a report by DigiTimes, translated by RetiredEngineer, three of TSMC's major customers—Apple, Nvidia, and AMD—are looking to revise their orders.

The AM5 platform will have X3D parts out this year too! Based on their rumored clock speeds, they could possibly trounce the AM4 parts. I for one will skipping the Zen 4 chips regardless. Zen 5 is what has me truly excited, but I would do a "mini-upgrade" to hold move over till then. In short, its a brilliant idea if AMD does go this route. It's suicide to release more 3Ds or Zen 4 or anything for the AM4 platform while the AM5 is due to be released in a couple of months.
The only reason of doing something like that, is probably the current economic situation globally.
If AMD does that though, they may release a 5600X3D soon, for those who don't want to or can't pay for a 5800X3D or AM5 and a 5900X3D some months after the release of ZEN 4, although I highly doubt that.

I guess every weeks they just put random numbers for their prices just for fun.
