Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o
... well i have both and since the number coincide ... for now i am fine ... 3600 to 3570/3770

but future upgrade would be AMD since main rig ... although not the latest gen, Intel is still to expensive and AMD has more incentive for me atm ... (at least for an upgrade path staying on AM4 )

Built/switched to a 12100F+B660 system in 2022 february and since I almost only play single player games or casual MMOs its plenty enough for my 75Hz Ultrawide screen so no upgrades for now.
But if I do upgrade its gonna be a budget-mid range Raptor lake like a 13400F so I voted that, 12400F is also an option if the pricing is really bad in my country but I would prefer to go for a Raptor lake.

Will see if it has any meaningful IPC/performance uplift vs the 12400, if not then I'm all good with the 12400 option anyway. :) 'I'm curious tho'

I just bought 12900KS a month ago so won't be doing it, but if I was buying now I'd do the 13700K. If Raptor Lake is anything like Alderlake, simply lowering the clock 200-300 MHz can probably shave 100 watts off the peak power and 30C off peak temperature.

Both the Ryzen 9 7950X and Core i9-13900K are hot and difficult to be maintained chips, so the only thing now is to wait for new generations with better specifications - lower TDP !! !

I'm sticking with my good Ryzen 9 5900X - a normal chip.

I will either move to a new generation 65-watt flagship, change the platform to ARM in the future, or simply wait till the death (inevitable death) of x86-64 using the Ryzen 9 5900X.

I already have 12600K & 12700K rigs with identical ASRock Z690 Steel Legend WiFi mobos and RAM. The 12600K has proven to be the better piece of silicon (the luck of the silicon lottery) so I'm considering another trip to Micro Center on Black Friday for a 13600K to replace the 12700K with. I already have the latest BIOS in the mobo for the newer CPU. The 12700K will either go up on Ebay or end up in my spare CPU collection.

I went with a 7950X already and no regrets as my primary reason for MT performance is the work I do inside a VM and VMware workstation doesn't support E cores and P cores at the same time so full cores FTW.

yeah 65 celsius in gaming is going to be a nightmare for me, i am so scared. stop taking things out of context mate.
Heat output is measured in BTU/hr (or Watts for many electric heaters, which can be converted to BTU/hr), not temperatures.

Both processors use a lot of power for sure, but Intel does pull slightly more, 19% more while gaming and 27% more in Blender (13900k vs 7950x per Paul's Hardware review).

Granted, the extra power while gaming was only an extra 36W, so not a lot of heat. The extra heat would be 123 BTU/hr, or 1.5 min runtime from a small 5k BTU window AC per hour to offset gaming, or 4 minutes of runtime per hour to offset the extra 100W or 341 BTU/hr for Blender.

Now if you're in a home that already has an air conditioner that doesn't keep up, and in a very small room say around 100 sq. ft and only have 8ft ceilings, then that 36W could increase the temp of the room by 1.26 F per hour, while 100W blender load could increase it by 3.45 F per hour.

If you did go with the Hybrid uarch couldn't you limit the VM to just P or E cores?

I wouldn't buy either, I would probably wait for the x3d or Zen "4c" ~ personally not a fan of these absurd temps & power consumption from both sides, that being said I never run anything on stock, except my phones, so there's that.

Yes, you'd have to prevent VMware from using the E cores in the VMX config file so you could get the best performance, which would be 8 P cores. Those 8 P cores should be slower than 16 zen4 cores so that's why I didn't bother waiting for RPL benchmarks before purchasing Zen4. I could have held off for a price drop or X3D but don't feel inclined to buy a GPU right now, not one that will make the 7950x a bottleneck anyhow. Also, I wanted to make sure the $100 discount coupon for purchasing through Newegg using ZIPFEST22 would still be valid when I did make a purchase (required using Zip to pay), but who knows that code might be valid the rest of the year for all I know.

How about adding another response to the poll....."undecided" or "decision pending" or "dying to see if AMD and Intel battle it out for more cost effective solutions".... or just "undecided"!!

[ITS A MESS - BARE WITH ME]

I'm certainly not starved for performance but can do EVIDENTLY better in the games im running.... more importantly I can't shake off the upgrade itch (its happening real soon...). I have my personal 7700K + 1080 TI DIY build and it took 5 years to finally pick up a 9700K/2080 TI combo which was a damn good "used" deal in the then circumstances hence i couldn't pass it (built by a family friend). I also have 2 half stripped builds, leftovers from my brothers office, both holding a B450 strix X570-F board (no GPUs, no CPU in one but the others holding a 3600X, no storage media, etc). Yep a bunch of builds/possibilities and certainly not discounting going with some of the fresh DDR5 possibilities.

A couple of CPU-heavy titles I play on my current 9700K+2080 TI build fare better on multi-threaded chips (some fps+ but primarily smoother gameplay experience or visual silkiness) and from the get go i've been strongly considering grabbing a used 9900K or as time passed swapping over to the B450 and snapping up something like a 5800X. I kinda held off though.... and then came along the 5800X3D. A real contender to consider moving to B450. I'm always undecided though - wanted to see what Zen 4 and RPL had on offer. Not impressed with either of them TBH, the higher power consumption/temps seems like both Intel and AMD are desperately fighting for the gaming crown, at any cost. Outside of all the hyped narratives, with Zen 4/RPL and feeding the "less" power/heat/noise enthusiast in me I fancy waiting for non-K/X series processors, non-X/Z series mobos which in return should see some nice savings too... or better than nice assuming we should be seeing some price slash action in the coming weeks.

With 2 B450s already in hand... why not just pull the trigger on the 5800X3D you might ask!! I know... fantastic CPU and right up there amongst the Gods BUT... these are ATX boards... was hoping my next upgrade would be a Mini-ITX. If I end up buying a new board I might as well invest in something new paired with DDR5.

RPL seems interesting... so far seems faster for gaming but a dead end platform

Zen 4 not far behind (or trading blows) but that forward support plan (3 years+) definitely adds value and is hard to ignore.

Zen 4 X3D - VERY EXCITING but i suspect its gonna be a $600 part or something... nah not for me. Cheaper options with unfortunately a more powerful card will easily allow me to hit my displays 1440p 144hz threshold. If I ever end up on AM5... id rather grab a budget 6/8 core gamer and then maybe 1/2 gens down the road grab a subsequent Gen X3D part (long after inflated launch prices lose some air)

Anyway Im gonna wait until the end of 2022... long past RDNA3 launch and weigh-in all my options again. More importantly, i'll be checking specific benchmarks for the games I play and take it from there. In the meanwhile, i'll just continue busting my balls with every new negligible development like my life depends on it. Thanks to you guys learning a ton a long the way :D

(oh, not happy with NVIDIA this time round... nope still not gonna fork out $900 for a 4080... appalling!!! I'm a kind guy, hope they can throw something in to compensate or i'm pulling a finger and moving on)

In short, "undecided".... TBC: End-2022 .....[TICK] ......Poll result in 2030: "1 idiot still waiting to upgrade" lol

I have both AMD and Intel builds. My main gaming one is an Intel Rocket Lake that I may swap for AMD. Raptor Lake's gaming performance caught my eye for a second, but that power consumption and heat... oh man... I'm really not sure I could stomach that.

Grabbing the 13700K as we speak :D, I ain't gonna wait 30s on every boot with AM5.

Power consumption in games look about the same as my 9900K @5ghz, so no biggie.

I don't upgrade CPU every 2 year, more like 4-5 years so more than likely that I will buy CPU+Mobo+RAM again anyways.

I have both AMD and Intel builds. My main gaming one is an Intel Rocket Lake that I may swap for AMD. Raptor Lake's gaming performance caught my eye for a second, but that power consumption and heat... oh man... I'm really not sure I could stomach that.

Either are easily tweakable to fit your needs without losing more than 5% of stock performance. It would really just come down to how much of an upgrade path you want.

Both the 13900k and 7950X are pushed way beyond their efficiency curves to try and one up each other.

The 9900k was a great cpu I'm sure the 13700k will be as well. I'm sure when the X3D 7000 cpus drop amd fanboys will try to crap talk your cpu choice... Ignore them.

(oh, not happy with NVIDIA this time round... nope still not gonna fork out $900 for a 4080...appalling!!! I'm a kind guy, hope they can throw something in to compensate or i'm pulling a finger and moving on)
No worries, Nvidia doesn't offer a $900 4080 anymore, it was pulled because it wasn't really a 4080 to begin with. There's still the $1,200 4080 16GB smh.

Which still looks terrible but at least it beats the 3090ti by 10-20% I guess in raw performance.

Maybe AM5 will be alive, but we don't know if they won't release AM5+ and AM5++ boards.
Also, don't forget that the next Zen can be or cannot be supported on the old X670/E/B650/E chipsets.
You will be praying for support which may come or may not come.
Hmm. I don't think the socket will change. certainly a new chipset for every CPU generation. AMD wouldn't had made a big deal about long term support if it wasn't going to support these CPUs in the future MBs....But look at Threadripper or older AMD sockets (pre AM4).
