AMD on Thursday launched the Radeon RX 7900 XTX and RX 7900 XT RDNA3 graphics cards. With these, the company claims to have repeated its feat of a 50+ percent performance/Watt gain over the previous-generation, which propelled the RX 6000-series to competitiveness with NVIDIA's fastest RTX 30-series SKUs. AMD's performance claims for the Radeon RX 7900 XTX put the card at anywhere between 50% to 70% faster than the company's current flagship, the RX 6950 XT, when tested at 4K UHD resolution. Digging through these claims, and piecing together relevant information from the Endnotes, HXL was able to draw an extrapolated performance comparison between the RX 7900 XTX, the real-world tested RTX 4090, and previous-generation flagships RTX 3090 Ti and RX 6950 XT.

The graphs put the Radeon RX 7900 XTX menacingly close to the GeForce RTX 4090. In Watch_Dogs Legion, the RTX 4090 is 6.4% faster than the RX 7900 XTX. Cyberpunk 2077 and Metro Exodus see the two cards evenly matched, with a delta under 1%. The RTX 4090 is 4.4% faster with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II (2022). Accounting for the pinch of salt usually associated with launch-date first-party performance claims; the RX 7900 XTX would end up within 5-10% of the RTX 4090, but pricing changes everything. The RTX 4090 is a $1,599 (MSRP) card, whereas the RX 7900 XTX is $999. Assuming the upcoming RTX 4080 (16 GB) is around 10% slower than the RTX 4090; the main clash for this generation will be between the RTX 4080 and RX 7900 XTX. Even here, AMD gets ahead with pricing, as the RTX 4080 was announced with an MSRP of $1,199 (exactly 20% pricier than the RX 7900 XTX). With the FSR 3.0 Fluid Motion announcement, AMD also blunted NVIDIA's DLSS 3 Frame Generation performance advantage.

Lots of claims in here that need to be verified by independent testing, performance being the big one, but FSR 3.0 frame generation being another.

AMD must deliver for the sake the buyers and the market. But these are very bold claims considering much less Tflops, Frequency, etc. Reviews can't come sooner !

Available at 13 dec. A month from now on, and leaks will come up anyway.

Who bought a launch price 4090?

hopefully better than the latency ridden dlss 3.0
If it works on a similar principle, I am afraid not much can be done on latency.

Patiently waiting for the sapphire nitro+ model with a higher TDP and clock speeds pushing dangerously close to if not past the 4090.

if those claims are true then nVidia really needs to rethink their entire 40 naming scheme.

I don't see them doing any better than DLSS 3 imo, given it needs reflex to be on too and roughly match the native performance latency, I fear it'll be objectively worse as FSR currently is overall.

Also I'm curious, have you personally played on a 4090 with DLSS 3 to actually feel/see it, or going off review/analysis numbers?

The Metro Exodus "4K High" numbers here are highly suspect. In TPU's own review, they found the 4090 to be 2.5x the 6950 XT. So why is the performance so low here?

No one curious now with the RT score too?

If this is the case where this card can match the 4090 at that price, I just may grab this instead.

If course, pending independent reviews.

Interesting.... The problem with me is that I have is that I heard a great deal of market speak that made me want to puke.

If they deliver what they have stated at the price, then these will give Ngreedia a Headache as why should a normal gamer buy a $1600 video card when you can get one that might be 10%+ less in performance for 600+ DOLLARS LESS.

Cautiously Optimistic.

What we can extrapolate is that the 7900XTX would have around 50-60% more performance than the 6900XT in pure rasterization games, so without RT, and all that FSR/DLSS bullshit. So look at some benchmark on the 6900XT and take a guess, while its RT performance might not be up to par with the 4090, since its about a generation late in comparison, its still up to 50% greater than before, which probably put it in the ballpark of the 3090/3090ti RT performance, which is still far below that of the 4090.
Then take into account the price, it would probably be far superior than the 4080, in most games barring RT performance, then it's also cheaper, $999 vs $1199, so it definitely a better choice IMO. The 7900XTX might not be targeting the 4090 especially at it's price point, instead the 4080.

a 4080 16GB killer for $200 less. Hopefully it's not another paper launch coz if it is, don't think anyone will bother picking up a RX7xxx Series GPU anytime soon.

why the fuck is the heat not leaving my case out the port side??? all heat is being dumped in case with this design... oh shit... my poor cpu... fuck... imo heat should leave out the port side and the top... not just forced one way or the other...

if 4090 is actually 2X with the correct processor that hasn't come out yet, like meteor lake. then 7900 XTX is actually closer to 4080, that can be further cut down to 4070 Ti at 999 and still perform the same.

And I don't understand the transistor count of 58 B. this probably includes the memory controllers. So it's more or less a 4080 with more memory, which may be an overkill.
The way I see it, the minimum advisable L2 cache in 4K is 72MB, 4080 may be in trouble and take a serious hit in 4K. 4080 Ti is imminent.

The side port doesn't make any sense for this design for some years now...
Keep in mind the alignment of the cooler's fins to understand it.

To be honest I don't really want frame generation in games...but if that new fluid motion includes the good old fluid motion we used to have for movies and anime.....that's the real selling point there.

fair enough. if i had a smaller atx case i would be worried though. if you have giant case like mine, not so worried.
