Would this affect my motherboard? If you look you can see a black stain and you cannsee a faint white line beneath it on the right. It isn't clear on the picture but the line goes straight through those tiny black lines. Will this effect anything? Because the pc still works but is there maybe a performance issue that has arisen???

you mean this one?
looks like from the screw driver, you might cover it using nail polish to prevent any oxidation that may affect in long term

is there any real damage though?

And could you elaborate on why and how I am supposed to cover it with nail polish?

It looks like you just scraped the mask off, I would think it should be fine.

I would just leave it, looks like it was from the manufacturing process.. maybe someone grabbed the board with their glove to early or something, I've seen it before.. looks like a thumb :D

You should be good, you/they didnt break the traces there. If you get clear nail polish and swipe some over the length of the line it will reseal it so the copper doesnt oxidize and reduces the signals thru them. Thats what micropage was alluding to.

do I need to do this because the thought makes me a bit anxious.

and what would that mean (reduces the signals thru them) How would that effect my pc?

does it have to be clear nail polish?

I would not bother with the nail polish; it's fine, enjoy your PC

If the stain bothers you, clean it off with isopropyl alcohol

No, you dont need to from the looks of it. Reduces the signals means when that super thin copper gets oxidized it creates electrical resistance in the damaged one, slowing signals to the traces connected to it and resistance creates heat which more heat creates more resistance etc... until you are on fire. This is a extreme example of a end result but nonetheless absolutely possible. Before that happened you would get signals like unexplained crashing, disconnects, weird errors etc... so dont panic. Yes, clear nail polish cause to make colors they use odd chemicals and compounds like titanium for white, as a example, and other metals for different colors and you dont want to add something like that to a electrical trace. Im not trying to scare you, just giving you the answers to the questions you asked. Like Shrek said you can just enjoy the PC and let it go, especially if its not a very nice board and something very middle of the road or lower.

and these signals (unexplained crashing, disconnects, weird errors...) would this be like every day like 5 times (often) or like once evry month (rarely)?

I won't bother with the aesthetics but are you sure that the line won't effect anything? the stain is one thing but what about the line?

It won't affect anything since it is not a deep scratch. If you look closely, the copper is not even exposed and hence they won't even be vulnerable to oxidation in the long run.
As for the stain, take a q tip with some Isopropyl alcohol and feel free to rub it off.

PCB CLEANING 101

Turn off your rig.
Flip the power switch on your PSU.

Get a cotton swab, otherwise known as a q-tip.
Wet a tip with the highest purity isopropyl alcohol (usually 91%)you can get at the pharmacy, supermarket, corner store or medicine cabinet (what have you).

Clean the oily finger print with the now wetted swab using a gentle circular motion. Dry the now wet spot off with an old wash cloth or t-shirt before the alcohol dries or it may leave behind a whitish residue.

Now that you have properly cleaned any and all oil or grease from the pcb. Nail polish the nicked PCB like @micropage7 suggested and your mb is as good as new. Waalaa!

If the finger print persists. Leave it as is, knowing you have done everything within reason to remove it. It is now simply a harmless part of your mb. Let's call it... character :D

You now know how to properly clean any electronic pcb for the rest of your life.

*This method can also be used to clean thermal paste off of CPUs and GPUs.*

To me it looks like a light scratch and a finger print. Maybe like some have already said a little wipe doen with a soft q tip and some high % isopropyl

Its fine... no traces theee but a copper plate under it.. If you cut a trace you can easily solder a wire from a to b to reconnect a trace
