That's an issue with the hardware, not the software - your RAM itself has no onboard storage and requires software to set it every boot.

OpenRGB creator has stated on multiple occasions that G.skill uses the ENE controller, which does save settings. The new Save to Device feature supports ENE and writes to flash for it, you can check the chart on the website. If the hardware doesn't support it, Save to Device button is not even available, but it is available at least for turning off LEDs on ENE SMBus.

https://www.reddit.com/r/OpenRGB/comments/tkw296/_/i1zsj1w
G.skill removed the permanent settings from its app due to fears of conflicts with other RGB softwares (which have nuked Trident sticks in the past), not because they can't do it.

Problem is that Save to Device doesn't seem to work as OpenRGB creator has described it, only for soft reboots.

That makes perfect sense to me as an openRGB user - if you use the optional effects plugin it can send commands to use the built in presets (which are not the same as saving your OWN lighting, but using existing hardware ones preflashed to it) and they'll save

This is where openRGB trips people up trying to work with the various hardware vendors out there, because some require static to remain on (my corsair fan controller reverts to rainbow if theres no signal), others require direct (corsair RAM) and then devices that do not have options for static lighting require you to choose an animated preset that's built into them from the factory to 'remember' a setting

OpenRGB doesn't include the effects plugin by default, when that was posted - but 0.8 included a lot more of these things out of the box
No effects tab/plugin, but all the hardware options for my strimers (etc) show up now as default options and these remain 'saved' until the strimers lose power (just like they behave on the stock software)

Hardware with memory support may require a specific mode or effect, or the effects plugin to get that working - that's on Gskill for making dodgy software. That shite killed two of my corsair non-RGB RAM sticks, they have no SPD values at all now and only work when paired with other RAM.

Lol, people are satisfied about RGB. Just wow. I guess many players are watching on colors rather than what monitor is showing :D.

It needs to be implemented right, global brightness control, one button off, schedule profiles or brightness and ability to make your own design otherwise signalrgb or openrgb be better.

Also wonder how they will deal with other RGB software trying to grab the controllers or vice versa. Some of the software out there won't stop trying even if you turn it off. uninstalling and loosing features for other things is the only way with some.

openrgb exists. and even that isnt perfect.

you're mad to expect this to be like, more than a tenth as functional as openrgb will ever be.
Ya think? Surely MS has found a way to just talk to the argb controllers directly, otherwise this is just a horrible collection of 'run third party apps in secret' with accompanying, much worse, bloat.

Anything else just doesn't make sense

Of all the features that Windows 11 needs to be a compelling upgrade over Win10, fan control is so far down the list that it may as well not exist.

Hardware wise, in 2023 - RBG is kinda mainstream (almost everyone is doing it) - so can't say that I'm surprised. Pleasing mainstream trends - is a common practice among major corporations - Mircrosoft in particular.

There's reasons to be hopefull, openrgb depends on community support to reverse engineer and get things to work, microsoft can strike it's fist against the table and simply demand the protocol specs for the various rgb devices, no ifs or buts.

Not saying it will be perfect, but it will be something for sure :D

Not to mention that having one corporate (Microsoft) force vendor to use the same API makes open source alternative for older version of windows (or even other platform) much easier to implement, because it's now rely on single API only.

I mean thats kinda surprising tho I still have no reason to upgrade to Win 11.
Currently I have Asus Aura Sync to controll everything RGB in the case and one software for my keyboard and one for my mouse.
I change my static colors every few weeks-month depending on my mood so its not a big bother/deal for me, don't have them auto start with windows either and the colors stick most of the time/very rarely Aura sync forgets it but its rare so wuteva. 'takes like 10 seconds to switch it back'

Heh, looks like y'all hopped on the bandwagon at just the right time. v0.8 seems to be now capable of turning off the LEDs then writing them to G.skill DIMMs so they never turn LEDs on again. Never had this option before in older builds. No one-and-done for color control, though, only LEDs Off.

Nope. Just like I remember, everything reverts after a cold boot. At which point there's no practical difference to just running G.skill control on boot and closing it manually.

There's still room for MS to make a difference here.
I don't mind it not remembering the setting. I just have it startup and load a profile on login. Only uses about 9 MB of RAM in the background and no CPU usage with solid color setting.

You joke but that would be great, the current zoo needing different crappy apps for each devices is just terrible and a detriment to everyone involved. If manufacturers were smart they would've agreed on a single interoperable standard long ago

I think it's more than that, rgb crapware is generally just terrible which denegrates the brand, after all Macs don't have this problem have they? (it's a stupid point given the completely different market segment of rgb infested computers and macs but it's still sticks to the brand)

Denigrates which brand? Cause most of the RBG crapware (as you put it) - is offered/sold through third parties (PC Case Manufacturers, Coolers and Fans manufactures, laptop OEMs in partnership with peripherals manufacturers - like SteelSeries).

As for Microsoft Hardware:

RGB was never their thing. That might change in the future (hardware wise) - but for now - offering software support for RGB - is more like a feature meant to please the masses. Far from being defining for Microsoft, more like... other brands.

Hi,
Yep pretty much why I use G710+ keyboards the only light is white and has controls on the keyboard for how bright so one less item to mess with.

I do find this interesting because ms can't even apply a color to the settings page banner

And dark mode I do not like.

Hi,
One of the best reasons I avoid corsair products is that crapware.

Nice! Finally something to look forward to with Windows 11 if I ever upgrade. I hate having MSI and Asus software to control the RGB for both. OpenRGB only works for the whole GPU card and not the individual sections, which is what I want.

Or asus for not adding memory rgb to the restriction crap shoot both
