How come there isn't a single news about said bios update on the front page, when different manufacturers Asus, Asrock, Gigabyte already released them for some B450 B550 x370 x570 motherboards?

because there is nothing of note, and amd is good enough to not provide detailed change logs
its mostly security fixes
and minor performance improvements for the 5800X3D

It doesn't do much aside from patch some security vulnerabilities and unhide PBO controls for 5800X3D on some boards. Performance and boost behaviour is largely the same as 1207.

My Aorus B550 Elite V2 1.0 just got the F16b beta bios with 1.2.0.8 earlier this month. Installed it last night and was surprised to see PBO was back. Tried enabling a positive offset and ended up getting the CPU locked to base speed in Win11. Did some further testing and it looks like touching anything PBO related immediately gets the CPU locked to base clocks. Unfortunate, probably going to roll back to F15 until they release the final version.

No need to play with voltage, just use CO -30ish, set your fclk mclk and that's pretty much all you can do. I was hoping 1208 would make it into a regular Zen 3 part lol..

If you try to change Fmax (Boost Override) above its stock limit of 4550, CPU goes to base clock. It's one of the special hardware limitations that AMD imposes on the X3D, and has always worked this way unfortunately. Same goes for power limits - you can change them all you want, as long as they don't exceed stock 142/95/140 (not sure why you'd want more power in a CPU that's thermally limited, anyway).

If CPU still goes to base clock even when only changing CO or lowering limits, then yeah, BIOS borked. Happens sometimes for Gigabyte.

Whenever you update your Bios, you have to install defaults and reboot, then by hand you have to set everything over again. Sometimes saved settings does not work with the update and your PC can have some strange behaviors. Mine had Whea errors, after setting everything again by hand, no BSOD anyhow. I have too Agesa 1.2.0.8 installed, and it says nothing more then various security updates. But it's best to install them.

If you truly want to feel the full wrath of what the X3D can put out for heat, try bclk clocking. You will get the full 1.35v and it is a total bear lol.

Has anyone actually tested all core with the 1.2.0.8? Are the clocks back to 1.2.0.6 levels or is performance the same as 1.2.0.7 (meaning lower)?

I am n00b to the 5800X3D and did a BIOS update from 3000 series support (F21) to the latest 5000 series support (F37) just before I installed the CPU. That BIOS is at 1.2.0.7, so what would I be hitting with 1.2.0.6? I'm currently getting 4450Mhz all core & 4550Mhz single core. I see the new Beta 38a with 1.2.0.8 has been released for my mobo.

Pretty sure it was sustaining 4450 in R23. It scored either high 14K or low 15k. I'm running -30 x8 offset with PBO Tuner.
I'll verify everything when I get home tomorrow.

You can try the same on 1206/1208 to see if performance improves at all, but 15200 ish is basically the limit for R23 multi core without BCLK.

I had noticeably increased power and temps which I struggled to deal with but still wrestled it back to about 15100 in the end. About the same as 1207.

Others also report 1207 and 1208 basically the same.

Im expecting to have to redo all my settings. Anyone know of the EDC "bug" is present in these 1.2.0.8? Im starting to wonder if the EDC thing reported from 1.2.0.7 is not actually a bug, but functioning as AMD intended.

I have a x470 GB mb - 1.2.0.6 and 1.2.07 never got a non-beta release (7 released in July 2022) - i wonder if 1.2.0.8 will get a proper release.

5700X boost behavior is a bit less cursed in games. It used to clock the CPUs being used a bit less on non-full load applications, now it seems to clock it at 4.7GHz as expected. No perf improvement on CB23, though, the opposite even.

"Beta" and "release" mean nothing for Gigabyte. You take whatever BIOS works best. I still use F13l beta on my B550I Aorus AX. Vega 8 nosedives on F13 "release".

Speaking of Gigabyte, the 1.2.0.8 BIOS unlocked a bunch of settings. Now to see if any of them help. So far I'm better off using 1.2.07 & PBO2 Tuner.

You can lower limits, but cant increase them. You should have CO. There isn't really much to do with this chip.. it is very boring to tune. But it is super easy to cool and it plays games ok

Looks like PBO was moved to the main tweaker page. AMD was talking about doing that for AM5. Looks like AM4 got the treatment first.
