So, I found the 3070ti lacking with 4K and upgraded

Definitely the biggest GPU upgrade jump I've ever made and it definitely does the job! It just eats through anything fully maxed out, Ray Tracing, everything. I hate myself for spending the money on it but if I keep using it enough, maybe it won't be too bad.
That reminds me that I wish I could get at least an 'RTX 3060 in the Intel build. (10th gen, Core i5 10600K)

There is no way to mount this drive with the huge factory heatsink, fan on my motherboard.

Most likely the best option for Gene motherboard is removing the factory cooling solution,.. and mounting drive in the GEN-Z.2_1 slot next to 4.0 x4 Primary C: drive.
I plan on using the drive as a separate data drive D: then create a Steam Folder and install games, rather than use the x86 folder on my C: drive for downloading games. I needed to re-install Windows three times the past 30-days due to testing beta BIOS, Chipset drivers, AGESA Versions,.. and I do not want to re-download my games if I ever need to re-install Windows. ;)

I always have separate SSDs for this reason, 1+4+1+2TB. Used to have to reinstall Windows much more frequently on 5900X and early Win 11 but my Steam library has remained completely untouched since about 2016. Reinstalling Windows is only slightly less of a pain itself but at least I don't have to redownload 1TB+ every time.

Let's see that Gene! Beautiful board

I recently swapped chassis from Asus Prime AP201, and swapped out RTX 3090 Ti,.. needed a bit more breathing room, air flow. lol

Old micro chassis, 3090 Ti,.. hot box!

it will replace my Toshiba TR200 240gb, if it was 2TB i would replace one of my two last 7.2k 1tb Toshiba DT01ACA100, but nope ... the promo was stopping at 1TB model
(no issues copying the files ... and i already have a 870 Evo 240gb as main drive and a 860 Evo 500gb as storage, 0 issues with them either )

i guess if i find a pair of Sandisk 3D Ultra 2TB at a nice price again ... i will not hesitate :D (in the end the Sandisk is almost as good as the 870 Evo and cheaper :D )

2 slots, 3rd one is an asus connector for their NVME card. (a bit meh positioning for airflow for the apparently rather hot ddr5 tho..)
I got the 7800 only because i simply couldnt find the 8000 one anywhere. Go big or go home mentality with memory :p

The temp monitor on the side is a nice touch. What's the RPM's at load on that thing? 2400 RPM at load wouldn't be bad at all, but if that's the idle RPM's goodbye hearing it was nice knowing you!

30% is the idle and load fan speed. The fan doesn't increase unless it hits 83C, though the status LCD flashes red at 79C. Manually controlling the fan can break past 6000RPM and it's exceptionally loud. I've fitted a potentiometer to it and have it idling at around more like 1500RPM which is a big step down in noise, though still more audible then most people are probably comfortable with these days. It reminds me of my old triple Crossfire rig that had a 4870X2 and 4890 both blowing away, very nostalgic.

Aside from the peak RPM's not bad I'd say. The temp readout is nice I'm surprised more GPU maker's aren't doing that. It would be cool if it also showed the fan RPM's on a screen like that.

none of them has it ... which is why i mentioned

and i already have a 870 Evo 240gb as main drive and a 860 Evo 500gb as storage, 0 issues with them either
usually aside with Razer and MadCatz i never had issues hardware wise
Razer : all gear i bought from them failed at least twice before end of first year ...
MadCatz i got several issues with a R.A.T. 7 and never bought from them again...
aside a Rhino X-55 but that one is a bit like my Tartarus V2, it's a Saitek product at the core, while the Tartarus V2 is a Belkin n52e slightly modified, but every original product from these 2 brands ... are ... no good for me.

that aside, on the 870, it's mentioned to be 4tb and 2tb affected primarily ... i guess i am lucky the promo stopped at the 1tb

make sure to download samsung magician and update firmware
never updated the 2 other ... "it just work"

knowing that it is an Apex ... 2 DIMM + 1 DIMM.2 slot does not feel very much at the Apex.. any reason they've gone 2 instead of 4? (it's not a mATX or a Mini-ITX board) not that it matters much with current DIMM capacity and it's still dual channel.
still a beautifull board (the PCB look gorgeous )

All OC boards are 2DIMM. Apex, OC Formula, Unify-X, Tachyon, Dark. 4DIMM will always be behind on max mem freq.

@Calmmo excellent choice of fans, once you go T30, you don't go back. Once the T30-140 comes out later this year I will swap out my remaining Noctuas for phanteks-only.

Yeah i wish there were 140 versions too. I got some NFA14's at the case front that I really don't like, they become quite loud at 1100rpm.. suspect noctua's new 140's will be coming out when they the launch that new NH-D15 at least, so more options later in the year, fingers crossed.

One of the other freebies arrived from the epic racing sim package I won in January :pimp: Simucube 2 Ultimate. The thing is an absolute beast; weighs almost 20kg.

Now I'm just waiting on the shifter + pedals to arrive and then I can finish setting up my rig.

Yeah i wish there were 140 versions too. I got some NFA14's at the case front that I really don't like, they become quite loud at 1100rpm.. suspect noctua's new 140's will be coming out when they the launch that new NH-D15 at least, so more options later in the year at least.

I'm also trying to get rid of a trio of A14s......at least Chromax don't buzz like iPPC, but I have them down to sub-1000rpm on NA-FC1 with rubber mounts and plenty of breathing space, and they still resonate annoyingly.

I will never get over just how quiet and inoffensive the T30s are at 1300rpm - just don't run them without corner pads. Gives me a lot of hope for T30-140.

The majority of the noise coming from my pc is from 3 ML 120 Pro that spin up to 1200rpm under heavy load my 7 T30s are much quieter to the point I somtimes have to get up and physically inspect them to make sure they are spinning.... I do sit about 10 feet away from my pc though so under normal use I can't hear it so haven't been bothered to replace them.

I'm waiting for the T30 140s, would be nice to part ways with my Nocs :)

I am hoping I can snap a T30 into the back of my case like a TY/TL series fan.

Why are you opposed to these? 3 pack for only 41 bucks and same dimensions as the t40's will be, but those will be infinitely costlier while prob still giving same performance. also @Calmmo
