4080 to me is much worse

Here down under the value of the 4090 seems a whole lot worse.

I can get a 4080 here brand new for $1800 where the 4090 is at least $2800. That percentage is like over 50% more.

In a lot of games the difference is like only 25% @ 4K. The latest 4080 review that W1z did, the Gainward 4080 is the most efficient high end GPU atm. This goes a long way in my book.

I've also noticed when it's time to sell, when the latest cards arrive the highest end cards fall the furthest so from a value perspective from me it's the 4080 atm.

Take Hogwarts for example @ 4k:

performance-3840-2160.png

Difference @ 4K is less than 25% and even more in lower res. Price diff more than 50%

Me personally still considering the 4080. The 4070 TI has crossed my mind also.

Yeah, that's definitely a large enough difference to make the 4080 a viable choice for sure. Not a fan of the 4070ti but just like with anything people have to weight what will work best for them. For me the difference was 33% in cost 4090 vs 4080.

My cards need to last 4 years 2 at 4k and 2 at 1440p just as a disclaimer though what they are worth after 4 years has no bearing on what I purchase.

that game cant max out the 4090 in many scenarios which probably explains it. More of a system cpu/mem perf bench than gpu. Never seen a ue4 game run this bad.

Yikes! That's definitely not like PC Halo MCC, where a Radeon RX 5600 XT, can run 4K at 60 FPS. This, I guess is similar to CP 2077 early-on, if not worse than CP 2077! Also they seem to not like AMD, LOL.

And, I need an RX 7900 XT, just to play 50 FPS! WTF! It makes my card look like integrated graphics, LOL.

OK, this should be ordered within minutes:

The lower res of what I have now, seems to bother me more than before, LOL.
It came!

There is no way to mount this drive with the huge factory heatsink, fan on my motherboard.

Most likely the best option for Gene motherboard is removing the factory cooling solution,.. and mounting drive in the GEN-Z.2_1 slot next to 4.0 x4 Primary C: drive.
I plan on using the drive as a separate data drive D: then create a Steam Folder and install games, rather than use the x86 folder on my C: drive for downloading games. I needed to re-install Windows three times the past 30-days due to testing beta BIOS, Chipset drivers, AGESA Versions,.. and I do not want to re-download my games if I ever need to re-install Windows. ;)

Never thought I would own a MAC, but the company I work for has really amazing discounts through the company site. Got a M2 Mac Mini for quite cheap. Didn't buy anything else, I have plenty of keyboards and mice and a spare 165hz 1080p monitor (it will be interesting to see if it detects and uses the high refresh capability or if it will just be capped at 60hz... never had MAC so I have no idea).

For the price I paid I have no regrets, I want to keep work separate from my gaming PC. I am leaning towards splurging on an iphone 15 in September/October as well and selling my current Android phone. Mainly because the companies around here and the one I work for seem to be heavily leaning towards Apple, so it will just make my life easier.

Other than that, my gaming will still mostly be done in Linux Mint, and the games not supporting Linux well will be for Windows on a separate NVME drive. The less time I see of Windows the better. screw all the bloat. I love that smooth and simply experience Linux Mint / Apple offer.

It's a little brighter than the pic shows, because I took it at dusk.
Also, that's a "free" colour - a no-cost option (the other was boring white)

Storage is now upgraded too, 2x of these + shipping was around ~345 EUR which I think is a good deal. Now I gotta reinstall the PC and will be able to remove the disk cage with both SATA drives (HDD and SSD).

Last thing remaining is GPU - and I don't know if I will ever bite the bullet with the current pricing.

I love my KC3000, it still tests strongly in synthetic tests, which surprises me as I have been using the heck out of it.

Good choice!!!

At my U, where I work IT, I have a Macbook Pro and a Dell Latitude laptop and a Dell desktop.... and an iphone and then theres the iPad pro... I like using Macs, but hate working on them because of the walled garden and well, a lot of software doesn't work on them in the edu market, go figure. That said, they are finely made and the new chips are fast and not nearly as hot as the old Intel cpus. Enjoy your new laptop!

Just ordered this for a cool 135US! I know its old tech, but I dont care, itll be fun to tinker with. And it was like 400 bucks off. My Gigabyte board is not fun to OC and although they overbuild a lot of their higher end boards, the bios is garbage. Maybe Im just used to Asrock as I have built most of the rigs over the last ten years with their boards, minus an ASUS/Gigabyte here and there. Anyway, should make for a fun weekend benchathon.

I've been with Asus a lot of the time. Just started getting familiar with ASRock in the 2020s. Most of their motherboards, feel solid!

I got offered an x299 taichi system with 32GB DDR4 3000 and a 7800X
It'd be fun, but anything with more cores is insanely expensive

I couldn’t resist at this price. Just stupid cheap for a gen 4, 2TB M2. Lol.. I have a problem.. Going to use it for video recording and what not.View attachment 286382
Those are really solid drives despite being DRAMless, they use HBM (system memory) instead (about 16MB of it)

I joined the 5800x3d club, also got some KD.

yep battery in car remote was low....says Japan on the battery too........
Oooh Mister fancy pants with the LITHIUM 2032, instead of replacing the $1 ones every year :p
Genuine JDM: adds 15ft of range

My most recent purchases:

-ATX skeletal chassis. ~$18 Shipped

A. Test Bench use B. Prospective 'base chassis/insert' for a DIY 'portable' rugged workstation.

-PCIe x4 3.0 to Dual M.2 NVMe - ASM2812 PCIe 3.0 Switch. $~55 shipped

Probably will use with the 2 960GB Samsung drives in an eventual ''Home Server" build I have semi-planned.

-(second) Solidigm P41 Plus 2TB Gen4 NVMe M.2 ~$95+tax+shipping

(so i can retire/reuse my 2 Samsung 960GB 22110 M.2s)

-PCIe4.0 x16->x4(m.2),x4(m.2), x8(slot). ~$33 shipped

2x Gen4 Solidgm P41 Plus(s) will go in it along with a Gen3 'WX9100' slotted in via flex Riser.
Still haven't figured out how I'm gonna mount the GPU tho. (no native vert. GPU mount in my case)

-Ryzen 5 4600G. ~$95+tax+shipping.

For my Dad's 'new' build. I was trying to find a ~$50 used video card of decent longevity and capability, to pair with my old R5 3600 and A320M-K.
(I'd almost bought a used WX 3100 4GB (~RX550) for $47.77).
However, ~$50 more got him a brand new CPU and opened up the x16 slot for prospective future use. Also, the purchase prevented: "wait... Son, why can't I use those ports on my motherboard?" Plus, I can re-sell the 3600, or hang onto it as an excuse to pick up yet another AM4 mobo and RAM.

Looks like I'm not the only one that's pondered if a 'battery' of 4S ###P 3V coincells would start a car. Since I've seen it done more than once using Alkalines, I have little doubt it'd 'work'...
but why???

I guess that one scene from Breaking Bad where the main characters had to build a battery to recharge their RV, stuck with me.
What in the what is that riser card, turns a x16 into NVME and x8 half height?

Edit: Okay its an 8/4/4 splitter. Wonder if the mobo requires bifurcation support, but i can see the appeal for using a lot of NVME's out of an x16 slot

Same as the quote in French I mentioned just earlier, though not as bluntly.

^ yes. those "cleaver blade" fans are efficient&silent, not sure how long the bearings last, but from previous experience they are good.
And of my previous builds, used some Nexus case fan, also not bad.

I'm thinking strongly about trying a set of those. Tell us what you think after they're in!
Same here.
I've grown to despise these 3 Noctua Redux 1700s in my back up rig. They gotta go. They make a racket unlike any of my bequiet or chromax fans. If the p12 max are solid I will give Arctic fans another go.
