iPhone 7+. The most likely thing that will make me upgrade to a new one is if Duo gets a bug up its butt about not being on the latest OS as this is 6.5 years old now. The damn thing outlasted its first case not from damage, but from wear. No matter, I got another case and should be good for another 5 years.

the most recent android update actually patches a lot of high level security risks. I was hoping to get it by now is all, but not end of world. just annoyed by the false advertising.

my next phone will probably be a Pixel simply for the monthly updates

Very detailed and well thought out comment. Do you have anymore insight to add proofreader?

Security updates to me aren't to most important thing but almost half a year? That's ridiculous. They should have atleast given updates quarterly. Unlocked phones always have poor support though. Unless it's a Pixel.

If supported, you could install LineageOS on it. That version of Android gets regular security and refinement updates. Fricken kicks ass! It's what I'm running. Two phones and a Laptop.

Android phones at least in my eyes can't be easily hacked.
True.

I have checked for several months, and A53G is not supported, otherwise I would.
Damn. When I replaced my phone after discovering that the maker wasn't doing any more updates for security patches, I looked specifically for a phone that ticked all my boxes AND was on the LineageOS list. It's a midrange phone but it's snappy enough to do what I need it to. Motorola Moto G7 Power XT1955. 5000mah battery and it lasts a full 3 days with my activity level.

I run a Samsung s10+ 1tb version along a 1tb micro SD card, yes I use alot of space.
I would like to upgrade to something newer but I cant really find any phones in the 1tb range. I still love the audio jack and sd card slot. 2 main reasons why I still keep this phone.

S23 Ultra treating me very well, and I plan for it to for at least 2 years if not 3-4, providing my wife doesn't break the S21U or otherwise find it deficient.

Interesting controversy about Samsung's moon photography too, naturally I tried with the S21U and S23U with their zoom capabilities, but it raises an interesting point, if the "AI" is smart enough to go... that's the moon - here have a HD, extremely detailed moon shot, now lets combine it's detail over your image and call it yours.... it's food for thought and I'm not sure where I land, it's impressive but also a head scratcher at the same time.

And I mean, it's not as if the computational side of Samsung's photography is lacking, check out this night shot, 10x zoom in very low light. First shot is what I saw through the viewfinder before pressing the shutter, second shot is what it captured when I took the photo. Damn impressive IMO, so it's a conflicting feeling overall!

Smartphone cameras over the past five or so years have gotten substantially better at dealing with capturing content on a digital display.

My take on the computational photography thing is that the AI probably thought the digital moon shot was just a very out-of-focus shot of the real thing. I doubt it would work if the camera wasn't so good at handling digital displays.

I take all of my photography with Expert Raw so I haven't experienced any of this AI stuff myself.

I now use a Galaxy S23 Ultra, coming from a Galaxy Note10. While not revolutionary by any means, it is so much better than the sum of its upgraded parts that it is almost a revolution by itself.
Battery that lasts a day and beyond with performance to spare, amazing camera setup (and I do use both 3x and 10x lenses, big plus over the GN10's 2x), and the integration between Samsung devices (I also have a Galaxy Tab S6, a Galaxy Watch 3 and the Buds2 Pro earbuds) all make it a marvel to use daily.

Using a Pixel 7 here, got a ridiculous trade-in on my S21 so only ran me ~$250
Overall good phone, glad to have some my old Pixel features back and enjoying the newer ones (call screening is nice, and unblur works really well).

I did notice 90Hz coming from 120Hz at first, but got used to it again.
Only other neg thing I can think of is the optical fingerprint sensor isn't great, but I can live w it.

It depends on the carrier really. I'm on AT&T

This was actually the reason I ditched my ATT branded S21.
It was unexplainably not getting updates pushed from them, over a year after 12 was pushed still nothing on it for me. Or security updates for that matter.

ATT would say it's all on Samsung, but ATT still had to push the updates once they were ready.
Something was very wrong on their backend, and they offered no help other than another free Samsung with a 2yr agreement.

the most recent android update actually patches a lot of high level security risks. I was hoping to get it by now is all, but not end of world. just annoyed by the false advertising.
That's a double-edged sword. Frequent updates are prone to frequent f$%^ups. Xiaomi tried that back when Android One was still relevant (for both One and MiUI phones), and it was usually the same sequence of events: a security/feature patch, a bug in the patch, and a patch for a patch.
Also, while I am not a big fan of Samsung, I still have to give them props for long-time device support. Just 2 days ago sold one of my dreaded rescuees - Galaxy A71. This phone got android 13 last year, even though it's much older than my current Poco F3, and what's even more surprising - it still gets updates wa-a-a-ay more frequently than my daily driver. Hell, I'm still on Android 12 with no major updates on the horizon.
Samsung has lots of aspects to hate them for(cheap build quality on anything but flagships, bad engineering, short-living batteries, difficult repairability etc.), but updates is not one of them.

I want to laugh Ah-Ha and I did. Android #Update is one thing but just complaining about security updates? Depends on you are doing and update your apps all should be fine. Stop complaining

Samsung has lots of aspects to hate them for(cheap build quality on anything but flagships, bad engineering, short-living batteries, difficult repairability etc.), but updates is not one of them.

the short living batteries is no joke, mine is only a year old and needs charged once or twice a day.

my next phone will probably be a Pixel simply for the monthly updates
Been pondering about Google Pixel, for this reason! Because the updates for my Samsung Galaxy S10+ & U.S. Cellular, are delayed! At least, it sure looks that way, when I look up the Android update information!

In Android's relevant information page.

But I wasn't cut off as soon as I was with the Galaxy S5, (from 2014) which has disappointments, despite being an excellent phone! (One is that you need a third-party app to use the LED light as a flashlight, which I thought was ridiculous, even back in 2016, when I got it used.)

Galaxy S5=A paltry 3 years of updates. :(
