Now BIOS updates and all that goes along with them has turned into a have to/need to rather than something I used to look forward to. (part of the reason I went back to intel - fewer updates)

Also, I hate to burst any Intel users' bubbles, but you're also required to update the BIOS often, as well on Intel systems, due to possible CSME vulnerabilities. More important, because of elevated risks, ever since the 9th-gen and earlier CSME fiasco! (remote-code-execution=PC can get remotely hacked) (That bug has the highest severity rating)

It's just as likely, if not more likely, because it snuck Secure Boot to disabled.

MSI defaults to Secure Boot and UEFI Mode enabled after AGESA 1207. It basically "soft bricked" any computer with a GPU made before 2016 or so that wasn't UEFI compliant. People were livid ...

yeah and that's especially funny when you swap to a different motherboard and have no internet connection...
this BS needs to stop... it's my PC and they prevent access to my own data.

I believe there is a workaround if you have a brand new unregistered key: make the default account a username and password account only with Administrator rights and enter the license key. Then create yourself a user account without Administrator rights that will then sign on with a Microsoft account and use it for your every day use. That way if you update the BIOS or swap hardware, the Microsoft username account will get locked but not the local Administrator account.

What seems most likely to set it off, is booting Windows 11 with Secure Boot disabled, it seemed on my end, because TPM was enabled. At least with late B550 and X570 BIOSes.

LOL I've had neary a problem with it so far CSM stays disabled secure boot and tpm are both on as default

And, updating the BIOS, can cause Windows 11 to lock you out, for disabling Secure Boot by default, IIRC! FYI! And then on top of that, enables CSM by default and makes me have to disable the CSM jazz.
Honestly, I think CSM should be disabled by default and instead resizable-BAR enabled by default.

Well, my CSM was always enabled. I read somewhere either last night on just this morning while on the shitter that if CSM was on by default, you should leave it alone and not enable rebar.

I disabled CSM for rebar, I'm still here which means RNG smiled on me that day.... Or maybe that Win10 is less pedantic about the whole CSM thing.

Performance has been smoother with rebar on. My old 1080Ti was even more smoother imo but that unfortunately no longer with us.

Congrats! I'm sure you'll be happy with it. RDNA 2 is probably the best series AMD's had in the last decade or so.

It's super Quiet and I am yet to see it go above 135w.
Depending on it's RT performance in Diablo 4 at 1440p 60Hz, I may replace it. Glad I'll be able to try the game and FSR 3 before next black friday deals.

Yeah RT is not AMD's best performer at any resolution you'll take a fair hit to fps what they need to do is start using separate hardware for RT like nVidia do instead of the main CU's

They use separate RT hardware. It's only that it's part of the main CU.

Raster parts have to wait for the RT core to finish the work. I don't think it's any different in Nvidia hardware, only that their RT cores are a lot more powerful.

Oh they go more than 135W in new intensive stuff. They perform well, but they do use more than GTX 1660. Usually at least at or around 190W in the new stuff, including Unigine Superposition.
Yes, in older games, they seem to sip power similar to how the RTX 3050s do. That was the strength of the '3050s. Usually, they do well in video encoding, too.

Yes, it seems that Nvidia has a tendency in older (pre-DirectX 10 especially) games of doing well. I know it does well in Halo 1 Custom Edition. (the one done by Gearbox)

the reference 6700 XT does about 15-60 fps RT at 1440p high settings. Fortnite gets about 60 fps, Minecraft bedrock gets 15-30 fps those are the only games that i play with RT.

A used 6700 10GB goes for about 2300 BRL (450 usd). I am traveling to Florida on december 20th, potentially buying a 7700XT for (Hopefully) 450 usd.
The new 4070 for 599 is just too much money. If I get 60 fps, Ultra Ray tracing at 1440p in diablo 4, then, fine. I'll just play the upcoming diablo 4, path of exile 2 and dota 2.

Oh definitely, my RX 6900 XT struggled with Metro Exodus PC Enhanced at 3840x1080, framerate's around 50fps and lower, with dips to 30s (setting maxed out + RT). While it was playable, I'd not say it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. With the RX 7900 XTX, at same setting + RT and at same res, I'd gotten >70fps to even ~100fps in some scenes...but most >70fps.

Basically, a nice bump in RT performance, bringing it up to RTX 3080 Ti/3090 level, more or less. I still have my beloved Nitro+ RX 6900 XT, in my 2nd rig, and it even handles DSR at '4K' with everything maxed out but with FSR at 'Quality', looks damn good to me on my 4K TV.

I am. It's a lot quieter than I expected for a basic Asus Dual model, and it uses a lot less power (literally about 90W less, according to hwinfo) than the RX 570 in the games I'm currently playing, which are capped at 60fps by engine limitations. Under a folding load, the hotspot is mid 70's and the card is still very quiet.
