2023 and still buying optical disc drives.View attachment 297911
kidding ... i did not buy them (well i did buy the BD drive in my HP Compaq Elite 8300, the DVD RW on top of the pile is the old ODD of it ) and i have 5 more hidden somewhere (2 of them are in a PowerMac G4 Quicksilver 2001) ... most of them are result of dump run and bundled with some bargain acquisition

i forgot about the Warhammer sale hehehe, i played both on a friend account but he revoked the access  (hilariously it's not my fault ... he got banned) i am fine with it ... paid ~9chf for both :D

My latest tech purchase is a replacement battery($17) for my GPD Q9+ Android gaming tablet. Nearly 7 years old and the battery just conked out last month. Not too shabby if we're being fair, though the last year of that has been a pain. Should have replaced the battery last year. New battery is better than the old one(5000mah instead of 4200mah) and it does seem to be living up to it's advertised specs.

Playing an episode from one of my favorite shows. (Bonus points to anyone who can name the show that is playing!)

Right in two! It's a story about the misadventures of Diana foul-mouthed Trent and Tom the-bombastic-spaz Ballard making the life of the Bayview retirement village manager, Harvey the-idiot Bains, a complete misery. This is not to mention the living flannel Jane Edwards, Basil the-bonker, the halfwitted nonsense of Tom's son Jeffery and the perpetual pill popping of Tom's daughter-in-law Marian...

I've been eyeing Herman Miller Aeron for some time now. Expensive, but should be once in a lifetime purchase.

after what the herman miller ceo did to her employees earlier this year, I won't be buying that brand. you can google it if you want details.

i am in the market for a new chair though, probably going to go to Costco, my Dad and I have a membership. they usually have several desk chairs sitting out for people to try before they buy, so I can see what I like best first.

My chair came from a local office supplier , just 5km from my home, I chose to buy online since only this way I got the 30 days right to return for whatever or no reason.

If you're willing to spend in the $500 range on something used or a floor model you can make a VERY big jump in quality.
Find an office supply store (for businesses) to see what you like and then work with them or find the same model from an online seller.

are you actually going to enjoy gaming on this, or you just scratching your tinkering itch? lol no judgement from me. those are some insane specs though.

you abandoning AMD same as I am? or just going to have two rigs? I have nothing but headaches trying to go next gen. I am just giving up honestly until 8800x3d comes out.

PM me a link to it. I'll see what happens. This is also a fresh installation. 1 Nvidia driver install then a ddu to move to the 7900.

The new Z790 build will be my daily driver, gaming rig.

Too much drama with X670E, I got bored. I guess I'm putting the Gene back in the bottle. :)

I spent 12 hours today troubleshooting my PC, only to find out that my windows 11 install flash drive had become corrupted and was the culprit all along.

My linux mint flash drive works great, so I couldn't figure it out, so I reinstalled win 10 on the corrupted flash drive (at the time I didnt know it was corrupted yet), and it formatted just fine, no errors or anything. When that install failed, I tried win 11 again, I almost gave up, cause the flash drive literally gave me no warning of any kind.

Finally I decided to try a different flash drive just for the heck of it, worked first try.

I'm so fucking frustrated right now.

edit: i most likely am giving up on desktop PC gaming just temporarily, today was not fun. i still have my steam deck and it is fun. eh we will see. most likely giving away this 1070 I got, and going to try for like a 1080 ti used or something to pair with a ryzen 5500. that should see me through a year or two more of older gaming backlog. next gen has given me one too many headaches this round.

It took months to build but I finally got modern engine management for an 80's Porsche I'm resto/modding. I'm so glad to throw out the bios chips, so archaic. VEMS is pretty great for the price and it allows me to gut all the crap vacuum and idle systems Porsche used. I just finished rehabbing the wiring harness, installing a p/p head, big arse turbo, injectors, fuel rail etc etc. Got a big rad I need to stick in it and then I can start plugging VEMS up. It also has an auto tune function to get the car to a baseline. Modern tech is so good.

For those who wish to know, other than my 32:9 display (odd aspect ratio for older games), it went rather well without a hitch.

I feel your pain bro, AM5 has been 6-months of frustration for me.

Loading dozens of new beta BIOS, and new Windows installs, dozens of BIOS options needed to adjust/disable with each update to perhaps run stable on next cold boot is a bit much.

The AM5 platform is fine if you want to run EXPO, default settings.

Hopefully down the road AMD, Asus can work together, share information to sort out AGESA, and other issues. Till then I'll be running Intel platform for daily/gaming rig. :)

That sounds more like an Asus thing than an AM5 thing to me. My AM5 experience has been trouble-free if you don't count the factory BIOS for my board, which was unstable as hell with any memory setting. Ever since version 1.50, which came out months before the over-voltage problems with the 7800X3D surfaced, my system has been rock solid.

+1,.. I was on Asus X670E Gene, rock solid with EXPO, default settings. :)

Personally with my system the Tweaking/Overclocking, PBO, MLB, Curve Optimizer results were just unsuitable for such an expensive platform.
